I think he just leaked the result of a briefing with an exasperated expert. Again.

"Just like the flu" = someone trying to make the dimwitted asshole understand that Covid is going to kill people, when said dimwitted asshole didn't even realize the flu did.

"Had tests that were broken" = someone trying to make the dimwitted asshole understand that the tests they already had wouldn't work on a new virus and we need new ones.

"Worse than 1917" = someone trying to make the dimwitted asshole understand basic epidemiology -- if we don't do more, if we let the welfa(R)e states of Trashcanistan do stupid shiat, err, continue to do stupid shiat, this is going to make the 1918 death toll look like a bad cold.

So. Now we know he's been told.

Watch him continue the mass murder.  He, his admin, his enablers, his defenders are all guilty of mass murder.

But, you know. Ovaries. Buttery males. Real 'murcans.  Etc.

Given that the population of the US then was about a little more than a third of what it is today, the 1918 Flu pandemic killed about thirty times as many people per capita.  Does the Dumbshiat-in-Chief think that 0.018% is larger than 0.5%??  That might explain a lot of his business successes.  "Yes, my very good brain tells me that 18 is more than three times as much as 5."

Uh... thanks?  Teledildonics, I guess?  I'll just take a raincheck, though, for now.

I was, and remain, *very* upset about the "just like a flu" conflation.  Been shouting about it not being the flu since February.  That bad (or willfully destructive) messaging is responsible for countless deaths:  It is probably the most destructive, terrible, stupid, misinforming, usefully-willfully-ignorant thing to come out of the admin.  And that anger, stewing away among the three or four neurons that count as "back of my mind" kicked forward the likely exchange,

"sir, it'll kill millions if we don't handle it correctly."
< Trump:  Puzzled, angry look and ignorance >

"No, it's a new disease, but it could kill millions."
< Trump:  Puzzled, angry look and ignorance >

"yes, something like this kills people."
< Trump:  Puzzled, angry look and ignorance >

"ok... uh... um...  like the flu, you know?"
< Trump:  Puzzled, angry look and ignorance >

"no, sir, the flu, every year.  Kills millions."
< Trump:  Puzzled, angry look and ignorance >

"yes, that flu."
< Trump:  Puzzled, angry look and ignorance >

"sir, yes, kills millions, but if we jump on this, we can keep it contained."

"oh ffs someone get me a drink."

Then we get,

"Nobody knows this! The flu kills a lot of people!  This isn't going to be that bad.  It's just like the flu.  I could have gone to MIT.  People say, 'sir, you really get this stuff!'  Like the flu, you know. Many people don't know it kills a lot of people.  Many, many good people die from the flu, not this though, it's like that."

The next two -- bad tests, this new "not as bad as 1917" fits the model... as do some historical "revelations." -- just fit right in that scenario.

And here we are.  60k+ dead who didn't need to die.  In a couple months.  And it's only gonna get worse. Something that, AT WORST, should have been a regional tragedy, probably in CA or WA where it could have been dismissed as "stupid lib state" and "only" 5-10k dead in a year... but never should have left China.  ALL OF IT is on Trump, his admin, his enablers, and his defenders.

And they'll be shouting about how it was "only" 500k instead of 2.0m in November, and call that a win.

As has already happened in this thread, but I ain't gonna quote it.

Good times.

Good luck, Farkers.  Stay safe.  Find some time to smile and eat a good meal.  Wash your hands.  STAY HOME.

1.1 dead has been the forecast for a long time...anything less than that and we are beating the odds.

Wow, that's almost as many as die in a year of car crashes in the U.S.!  Right? Oh, that's right, that is completely wrong.

You don't get to make predictions, dude, you've already demonstrated that you are incapable of rendering judgments on what are good and bad odds around here.

Not my prediction.

When you repeat the forecast of other people in a public place without disagreement, you are endorsing the prediction.  You repeated the false claim that we lose a million people in the U.S. to car accidents every year, so, you're not so good with the whole comprehension thing or the ability to discern good information from bad.   Stay in your lane,

1917, no pandemic, just a little barely noticeable world war.

A million people died at the Battle of the Somme, she said helpfully.

A million casualties, not a million deaths.

Yeah, I have read estimates of 300K to half a million dead.

I do believe that this time you are wrong. The First Battle of the Somme had 1.1 million casualties, with 14,000 British killed the first day alone; however:

8. Nearly 500,000 British were killed
After 141 days of battle, there was over a million casualties between the British, French, and German forces. Once the Battle of the Somme was over, 420,000 British men had lost their lives.
9. German casualties rose because of General Fritz von Below's order
General Fritz von Below ordered his men not to lose any land to the Allies. This meant that German forces were required to counterattack in order to regain any losses. Because of this order, about 440,000 German men were killed.

That's already 860,000 killed, not including the French casualties. Source: https://www.historyhit.com/facts-about-the-battle-of-the-somme/

Possibly you are thinking of the Second Battle of the Somme, which took place in 1918, had 804,000 total casualties and a lower total KIA.

Of course, after the first half-million, who's really counting?

With no cure for the flu, many doctors prescribed medication that they felt would alleviate symptoms... including aspirin, which had been trademarked by Bayer in 1899-a patent that expired in 1917, meaning new companies were able to produce the drug during the Spanish Flu epidemic.
Before the spike in deaths attributed to the Spanish Flu in 1918, the U.S. Surgeon General, Navy and the Journal of the American Medical Association had all recommended the use of aspirin. Medical professionals advised patients to take up to 30 grams per day, a dose now known to be toxic. (For comparison's sake, the medical consensus today is that doses above four grams are unsafe.) Symptoms of aspirin poisoning include hyperventilation and pulmonary edema, or the buildup of fluid in the lungs, and it's now believed that many of the October deaths were actually caused or hastened by aspirin poisoning.

Say, does Bayer sell any anti-malarial meds? Asking for a couple billion friends.
