You're having it worse than your grandpa who died chocking in his own fluids and ravaged by fever?

That movie was a trip. It was Gabriel García levels of magic realism plus southern gothic.

Yup.. the current numbers are looking like 1.1 million dead.  Our mitigation measures are only slowing it down.  Survival rates are pretty much consistent.

This is more like the 1957-58 flu. Killed between 70-120k in the USA. Or, maybe, the 1968 flu pandemic. Killed 100k in the USA.

Sad part is, old man Trump is old enough to remember both of them.

Three doctors are on the golf course talking shop. "What's the hardest procedure you've ever done?" one doctor asked the other two.

"Well," replied the plastic surgeon, "Some lady tried to commit suicide by jumping off a 20 story building. She was impaled on a flagpole on the 5th floor. Took me three days to get the smile off her face for her funeral. What about you?"

The second doctor says "I gave a lobotomy to a Republican - and he can still play the piano! What about you, Mark?"

The first doctor says "I have you both beat. Years ago some yahoo went out riding his horse in a hurricane. A volvo came down on them both and all that was left was the horse's ass. It was in surgery for 24 grueling hours and today, that ass it the President of the United States!"

1917 was a great American movie. Produced by Americans, directed by Americans and starring Americans. And it was beaten by some foreign film. Pathetic!

Given that the population of the US then was about a little more than a third of what it is today, the 1918 Flu pandemic killed about thirty times as many people per capita.  Does the Dumbshiat-in-Chief think that 0.018% is larger than 0.5%??  That might explain a lot of his business successes.  "Yes, my very good brain tells me that 18 is more than three times as much as 5."

I always like to think people can learn from the mistakes made by others, and, the bigger the past mistake, the better lesson they should impart.  Instead, Trump just sees mistake made in the past by others as an excuse to fark up as much as possible and say, "Hey, I could have farked up even worse, praise me!"

1917, no pandemic, just a little barely noticeable world war.

I think he just leaked the result of a briefing with an exasperated expert. Again.

"Just like the flu" = someone trying to make the dimwitted asshole understand that Covid is going to kill people, when said dimwitted asshole didn't even realize the flu did.

"Had tests that were broken" = someone trying to make the dimwitted asshole understand that the tests they already had wouldn't work on a new virus and we need new ones.

"Worse than 1917" = someone trying to make the dimwitted asshole understand basic epidemiology -- if we don't do more, if we let the welfa(R)e states of Trashcanistan do stupid shiat, err, continue to do stupid shiat, this is going to make the 1918 death toll look like a bad cold.

So. Now we know he's been told.

Watch him continue the mass murder.  He, his admin, his enablers, his defenders are all guilty of mass murder.

But, you know. Ovaries. Buttery males. Real 'murcans.  Etc.

To be accurate, 650K Americans didn't die in 1918 itself. It was from 1918-20. Also, there are estimates that it could have been a higher number, up to 800K.

Drives me crazy every time Trump says it was in 1917.
