I thought he did invoke it to force GM to make ventilators, which they were anyway.

I think I'll skip Tyson and Smithfield meat products because of them going to Trump for liability relief.

The ventilators don't directly affect him but meat does. Everything he does is filtered through his narcissism.

IIRC he "declared" that via Twatter but forgot to say "hereby" so it didn't count.

In England, Boris Johnson was pretty much holding back response to the virus because it was initially reported that it only killed those who had preexisting medical problems, meaning culling the herd of poor disabled people; then he got sick. Conservatives want all people who aren't like them or those serving conservatives to die, some like Trump and Johnson are just looking for things to make that happen which won't be themselves pulling the trigger and risk being overthrown/arrested later on when being called to answer to murder/genocide charges.

2020-04-30 3:41:41 PM
Well, duh. You only need so many ventilators, but people need to keep buying meat.

It's never about what's best for the country, continuing revenue is all that matters to these people.

From the article:

"Equally worrisome is the apparent aim of the administration to try to shield the companies from legal liability in cases of workplace exposure to the coronavirus. That fits with a larger effort by Republicans in Congress to broadly indemnify companies against lawsuits. The right course of action - and not just for meat plants - is for companies to reimagine places of work, putting in place the protections that will allow people to safely do their jobs. That - not coercing people to go to work - is how the economy should be restarted."

Okey-dokey, workers will be dying. Nor will it be easy to replace them, as this is high skilled stuff. Training takes time. And you tell me who is going to be around those plants ready, willing to die on the job? Ain't gonna be Biff Biffington the 3rd.

That's Trump's MO.

He doesn't know shiat about shiat.  Then, when he DOES know shiat, he doesn't rectify the previous shiat with the shiat he just learned, because that would mean admitting he didn't know some shiat, and President Daddy is infallible.

We all need to also remember, his menagerie of dipshiats are barely any smarter than he is.

2020-04-30 3:45:56 PM
It makes perfect sense if you think about it. In one case, he doesn't want to interfere with the natural functioning of the market. In the other, he wants to interfere with the natural function of the market.

Okay, there actually is a GM contract. $500M for 30,000 ventilators by August, with the first few due June 1.

Trump doesn't eat those disgusting vegetables. He doesn't care about ventilators. You know what he cares about?

He eats meat. Every meal. You better damn well believe he cares if the only thing he can stand to eat is threatened.

This is about him.

No worries - I'm sure all those Liberate Patriots™ are going to be lining up to take Miguel's $1.75 an hour meat-packing job when he croaks from COVID.  I mean, they just WANT to work!

I have a very Trump-like friend.

He hates all vegetables and fruit. Won't eat them, except lettuce or tomato in the context of a hamburger. He believes if a meal doesn't consist primarily of meat, it's not a meal. And he won't eat it.

Everything we know about Trump's own diet conforms to this exact same mentality. So it's not a surprise he focuses on meat, to the exclusion of nearly everything else.

I'm glad the need for PPE, ventilators and hospital beds was overblown.. it shows that WE are behaving ourselves and mitigating the process.

God that's my MIL.

She's no Trumper - they're all blue-collar Dems - but FFS, it is impossible to get her to eat anything green.

She eats like a goddamn five year-old: pepperoni pizza, fries, chicken fingers, steak (but well done), canned chili.  She's got the diabetes to prove it and gives no shiats about changing her eating habits.

Anyone know whether or not swine can get covid-19? they have the ACE2 enzyme the virus attaches to and have been infected by prior corona viruses like sars. So it seems plausible but did a GIS and found no definitive answer.

His base cares about meat, they will notice if their meat gets more expensive or harder to get. They will be upset with him if they can't get meat.

His base does not care about ventilators and face masks. They are not part of the liberal media hoax.

If I were a meat packing worker I would feel such despair.

How do you not use the DPA for PPE, and fail to protect the workers and then use it for meat, because maximum despair?

I know how tremendous slaughterhouses work and want maximum worker carnage. Ooo, free steak? -Trump probably

Those quotes are awful. One does not want extremely greasy steak.

Anyone who orders their steak from a person who gets them well done is a fool indeed.

LOL, of course not.

There are two Americas right now.  One that's been furloughed, laid off, suffering, and hoping desperately for everything to go back to normal.

The other America can work from home in their underwear, has time to post snarky replies and memes online between zoom meetings, while their pay still gets directly deposited into their bank account, and thinks that the above group needs to suck it up and stop being such babies.  That's if they're not still being supported by their parents.

Guess which group the average Farker falls into?

Maddow laid that out. When Obama had to do similiar the CDC ordered the plants to follow the guidelines. The dumpy CDC said this is a good idea but hey! Do whatever. We won't send OSHA to check.

Yes. Soviet ones. 2-day long line ups, ration stamps and near-permanent empty shelves.

People here are freaking out for no reason. Yet.

Just a question: has anyone seen any discussion about how long COVID can live on raw meat, and if this a new vector in the making?
