Just putting this out there, 'cause I know there's some nutters who might insist otherwise;

The WHO wasn't hiding anything; they can only work with the information they're given, and if China isn't honest about their reporting then the WHO data isn't going to be accurate either.

But Xi is a great guy... The best. He wrote beautiful letters and told me how hot my daughter was.

Of course China initially hid it. What country wouldn't? Even the US ignored it at first. WHO? I don't think they would have hidden anything like that.

So I guess this is just another one of those things where the administration made a huge mistake and now they're pointing fingers at others while yelling, "But they didn't tell me!" so they can get re elected.

I don't care if you're a democrat or a republican, we need to fix it and stop worrying about blue or red. How about doing something for the people? Remember them? The ones that are dying because others are too busy crying about political parties?

I'm crawling back under my rock now. Freakin' idiots worrying about politics instead of people at a time like this.

Its bigger than that. Under international law a country that covered up such an outbreak is financially liable to other countries to which the disease spreads.

Does this mean he is going to gather a bunch of people who are experts in Pandemics, maybe send some to Wuhan, and have them focus on looking for evidence of diseases and then report on their findings? Maybe make some recommendations on a course of action? Wonder where he can find them?

In Trump's defense, he only won the election because he jazzed up the trailer park set. And he did that by sounding a touch racist. And, he keeps doubling down on that. Hence the COVID-19.
Hence not quarantining anyone coming from outside the United States.
He made this bed and he won't drop it and focus on making us a team to try to mitigate all the dying going on and financial harm of all that dying.
He cares more about the racist side show act keeping him in good light with his base, he's failing to see a change to come off as a good leader.

Seriously, show me the treaty. Also, if it involves the UN then China can veto, so this needs to be a direct treaty, not part of the set of UN treaties.

A brief timeline of events in China:

27 Dec: a doctor first notes a cluster of unusual pneumonias in her patients;
also, a lab test shows the presence of a SARS-like virus;
3 Jan: China formally notifies US of outbreak; virus genome is sequenced;
7-10 Jan: sequence made public;
18 Jan: Lunar New Year banquet held in Wuhan;
19 Jan: first case outside Wuhan detected;
20 Jan; China confirms human to human transmission;
22 Jan: quarantine of Greater Wuhan area announced;
24 Jan: all cities in Hubei province under quarantine;
26 Jan: nationwide monitoring introduced

Could China have done better? Of course. Should the police not have been warning/arresting doctors? Of course. But overall, the Chinese reaction to events seems to me to have been far speedier than most Western nations.

Shoving a UV light up your ass isn't, like, safe. Or smart. But on a scale of anything to anything, it's safer and smarter than injection or oral administration of disinfectant. That is to say, I have more problems with thinking the UV light thing would be effective, rather than, "of course this obviously kills people".

Ignoring is not hiding.

China knew it had a transmittal respiratory disease by December 15, and knew it was a coronavirus by December 27.

Yet they still jailed Li Weinliang in January for warning colleagues that a new disease might be going around on December 30, and told the WHO it was not human-transmittable in mid-January.

Compare to the 2009 swine flu epidemic.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swine_flu_pandemic
Mexico announced it and shutdown almost immediately upon discovery. World-wide pandemic announcements were made within a week of isolation of the virus. It was still a bad time, but could have been much worse.

China dithered for three weeks. It was in the US before they admitted they knew about it. It was only after other nations started finding cases that China said anything. They did this before with SARS. They'll do it again with the next one, if we let them.

Trump pooh-poohed the virus on January ... are you going to make me Google this?

Trump ignored or pooh-poohed the obvious and growing for over two months. You can't blame Gyna. It was the C*** in Command (Lord All the Powers Are Mine) who is, was and will always be responsible for inaction, confusion, chaos-mongering and delaying tactics. Same old, same old techniques of gaslighting, bullshiating and misgovernance that Trump was boasting about in that court deposition in the 1990s.

If Gyna was doing such a shiatty job, what justifies the job done by the guy who ignored daily and weekly reports from the Deep State's agents in Gyna? This is one crisis the farking CIA saw coming months in advance.

I realize that you are stuck with old technology, but newer versions have multiple memory registers and multi core processors. So it is now possible to deal with more than one data stream at a time. You may not be able to blame China because of Trump, but modern machines such as myself can blame both. We don't need to let our outrage at the one interfere with our disgust with the other.

THE FIVE STAGES OF GRIEF TRUMP

1. Denial

2. Anger

3. Bargaining, aka high-handed threats and covert Wheeling and dealing

Denial of the denials

Walking back the false claims

Denial he walked back the false claims

More false claims.

Repetition.

Grift, graft, corruption, violation of emoluments clause

More denial

More denials of the Denial

More anger, more accusations, shifting of blame, slander, libel, bad-mouthing

Seemingly reasonable statement made by spin doctors which don't mean what they seem to mean and contradict everything Trump has said, repeated, denied, repeatedly said, and double-down on

4. Self-pity

5. Acceptance of the obvious that Trump has been muddying with dynamite like a neighbour's fish pond -- after everybody including the spin doctors, revisionists and apologists have long resigned themselves to a sudden statement of full confidence, firing, and transmission of blame to their scape goat heads

...

The five stages of grief do not happen in any particular order, and may happen simultaneously and repeatedly ... forever, in the case of Trump.

They are invariably followed by false claims, projection of Trump's vices and crimes onto anybody and everybody capable of critical thought, high crimes and misdemeanours mixed with treason and "All for Trump, and Trump for no one but Trump"and so it goes, and so it goes, forever or until the last Trump of Doom, whichever comes first.

Every thing in bold has been said three times at least, so you know it is true.
