(Daily Mail)   Whelp, there it is. We're boned. Trump says he "has NEVER thought of moving date of November election." That's the joke   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line

Why bother?
Everyone assumes Joe Biden will win in a landslide. As that message gets spread by optimistic Dems who don't want to stress, their lazier peers won't end up voting. It's going to be like 2004 all over again.
Stupid Round 2.

But don't worry, a big thing is scheduled to smack into the Earth in December and the calendar hasn't been wrong yet.

He doesn't have the power to do so, so it's probably a good thing he doesn't think about it or we'd have to deal with the tweet storm tantrum.

Congress can move election day, the states control how the electors are selected, the Executive has 0 say.

2020-04-28 7:36:21 AM
Moving? no. Cancelling and declaring himself God-Emperor for eternity? Sure.

2020-04-28 7:37:06 AM
Never thought?  That part is easy to believe.

2020-04-28 7:40:44 AM
Of course not. He'll have someone else do it and then fire them to assuage public anger.

2020-04-28 7:43:55 AM
All he has to do is say he's going to do that and declare which date it would be.

Whether or not that is legal wouldn't matter - it would sew enough confusion to upset the election process.

2020-04-28 8:18:31 AM
You don't need to cancel it so much as destroy faith in it and he'll have a lot of offshore help for that, never mind the support of the AG and SCOTUS.

He's not going anywhere.

His term ends on 1/20/21 no matter what unless the Constitution is changed.

The president doesn't set the date of the presidential election. Congress does.

They WANT you to vote. Because maga chuds think the virus is a hoax and they can just run the same playbook for keeping Those People from voting like always.

Giuliani tried to postpone the mayoral election after 9/11. He was term limited, and felt he was essential. Don't tell me he didn't suggest the same thing to Trump

There are no rules for this administration. They do whatever they want & theres nothing anybody can do about it.

If trump wants to move the election, or cancel it completely, he'll do so & the senate will back him. I know, i know, the senate doesnt have the power to do it either, but that wont stop any of it from happening.

Literally nobody thinks anything you said.

Many terrific and very powerful leaders have reached out to say, "Sir, I'm not sure about having an election right now, sir. Since you're doing such a fantastic and amazing job, sir, why don't we just assume you would have won, sir?

2020-04-28 10:19:05 AM
The right to peaceably assemble is sacrosanct! We'll risk death for our right to gather in front of the statehouse! The same goes for the right to bear arms - shutting down gun shops is an affront to liberty and an attempt by the state to oppress citizens!

Now, the right to vote? Who gives a shiat. Not important.

I really feel like people saying "He can't do X or Y" really haven't been paying much attention the past 3.5 years. Preventing Trump from doing something rests solely on the courts (which he has packed), and Congress, which has not proven they will stand up to him.

I do still think the most likely scenario here is that he'll be glad to be out of the office, and won't raise a stink, so long as he has some assurances from Dem leadership that he won't face any kind of consequences or criminal charges. He bilked the US for millions (possibly billions if you include money he got from foreign sources), which is what his Presidential run was about to begin with. He'll be happy to move back to NY or Fla, enjoy feeling important with Secret Service around all the time, and pop on Fox ever once in a while to crow about how great of a President he was.

But make no mistake, there is a real danger here.

Oh, he won't do anything himself, sure. But the "nudge nudge, wink wink" stochastic terrorism is going to go into overdrive. Stolen election this, undoing the great things Trump has done that, blah, blah.

They're going to need to double or triple Biden's security detail thanks to this asshole not being able lose gracefully.

Each state decides HOW to do their voting, but the date of the election is set by Congress - laws, study them up.

Counting on the citizens of the US to realize that they hold all the power is a fool's errand.

If Trump/GOP decide to play shenanigans with the election it will all fall on who is running the Secret Service. If that person is not a Trumplicker then on Jan 20th Trump can either leave or become a trespasser in the White House. Otherwise, you're farked.

Right but how, exactly, would he stop the states from holding an election?  Elections are a state level function.  Now there may be a case where blue states hold an election and red states don't and tell their electors to just vote Trump.  But there is not really anything they can do to stop the states from holding an election.

They can, of course, ignore the results, but that's a different thing entirely.

Oh HELL no.

NO clemency or amnesty so "America can heal and move on."

NO invocation of South Africa's truth and reconciliation committee.

NO "he's out of office now and can't do any harm, just let him be"

America and its elected leaders must know there are consequences for intentional misuse of office. I'm not talking about mere mistakes, incompetence, or policy disagreements. I'm talking about obvious abuse of the power of one's elected office for personal gain. Any politician willing to sweep that under the rug is worried about the skeletons in their own closet.

Personally, I find it fascinating that an inordinate number of RWNJs and Trumpansies on Fark have handles that evoke the Internet Tough Guy image. Probably says something about their mental/emotional/physical ages, and also their choice of Useless Eater recreations/hobbies. May also correlate strongly with the number of substitute dildos they own.

Seriously, every one of your posts remind me of that guy with the pathetic beard posing on the bed in his shorts surrounded by gunzzzzzz. Is that the image that your supervisors are going for?
