Trump doesn't need to test the rules. Twitter has already given him a lifetime free pass.

This asymmetric disinformation war is kind of fascinating if you think about it: Trumpers can make deepfakes all day long, and no matter how poorly made they are, they'll appeal to their target demo: people already voting for Trump. Meanwhile, the opposition can't possibly make up anything more damning than what Trump says on a daily basis, and that same cohort of Trump voters simply won't care.

The danger here, and probably the goal of the Trump supporters with enough low animal cunning to actually consider what they're doing, is to simply make everyone else so sick of the whole mess--tarring Biden with the the thought that he's just another scumbag like Trump--that they'll just throw their hands up and walk away from voting at all.

Yes, the best plan Team Trump has is to convince the world that everyone is as vile as their hero.

The article specifically covered that.

The effectiveness of fake news doesn't depend on how plausible it is, it depends on how much the target audience wants to believe it.

Yeah when they were touting that when we had 40K dead I was thinking "this thing has a week long incubation period, we're at 2000 dead a day with no clear downward trend yet, and you think it's gonna vanish in 10 days? Y'all dumbasses be delusional."

Meanwhile, if you look at (Italy, Spain, France, Germany, ...) on Worldometer, the new case rates in all those places have plunged 50-80% since they shut down, and they'll likely be able to cautiously open by the end of May.

While under Republican "leadership" in the USA, our rate of new cases is not just not plunging, the several-days moving average only marginally lower than the peak and barely even trending down.

And thanks to Republican "leadership" causing people to fail to take this as seriously as it needs to be taken, not ONLY will large parts of the US NOT be able to safely reopen even cautiously any time soon, but there are large areas and groups of willing disease enthusiasts actively trying to make it worse and hurting the efforts of areas that are taking it seriously.

Here in eugene OR based on the mask %age when food shopping, people here are not doing it right. But we only have 50 cases in 150K people and almost no new ones so at least locally it appears that we've stopped transmission. Fingers crossed...

Trump will sink to deeper desperation.

We're 1 step away from those GOPniks assassinating political opponents & members of the press disappearing.

Why is it that whenever I see your posts lately it seems like you're always bending as far backwards as possible to miss the point?

It doesn't matter that he didn't create or commission it, the point is that the President of the United States is sharing it. Just like when he shared the snuff video, just like when he told people to drink bleach on national television.

The point isn't that he's some gleefully brilliant supervillain plotting and planning from his lair on Pennsylvania Avenue. The point is that he has the authority of the White House behind his words and actions and that lends enormous weight to the horrible things he does. Whether he does them because he's Dr. Doom or Anthony Fremont is beyond the point. The point is the position he does it from is extraordinarily damaging.

Night Train to Wakanda: My only take away from this bullshiat article

"after a primary campaign in which the main line of attack on Biden was that he was insufficiently radical."

Bernies progressive positions are no longer radical.

I think the article made a significantly more incisive point about Berniedom:

And then, at 8:25:50 pm ET, the president retweeted an account he had never retweeted before. The account had posted a video of former Vice President Joe Biden, crudely and obviously manipulated to show him twitching his eyebrows and lolling his tongue. The caption read: "Sloppy Joe is trending. I wonder if it's because of this. You can tell it's a deep fake because Jill Biden isn't covering for him."
Whatever the intentions of the original tweeter-it purports to be the account of a left-wing activist supportive of the candidacy of Bernie Sanders-the Trump retweet looks like an experimental test of the rules of social media.

You are seriously in denial of how rotten our country has become. We're in total agreement of how objectively stupid Trump is. What you seem to perceive as having it "both" ways is our marvel at just how somebody so stupid is still managing to manipulate so many people. Money, blackmail, religion, racism, hatred, It turns out to be more of an indictment of America than of Trump, but that makes it all the more dangerous.

I hope you can see why.

Something about my personality causes me to not enjoy those kinds of movies where a character is forced into some untenable position and because of evil planning or whatever, there is absolutely nothing they can do about it. Those kinds of movies make me crazy. I couldn't make it to the end of Misery - even in those cases where I KNOW the bad guy gets it in the end and the good guy wins - I can never GET to that part of the movie because the frustration of someone being in a position that is completely and absolutely out of their control just kills me. I can't get past it.

I'm having a HUGE issue watching what's going on to the south of us and I find I am getting those same feelings because of YOU guys! I can't imagine the frustration of essentially having to WATCH this presidential lunacy. Being forced to stand by as he tears apart the very fabric of what made your country great and realistically, not a goddamned thing a single intelligent person can do about it. It just raises my hackles to the point of physical pain. Too many unintelligent people running the show down there and it looks like they're advancing.

With Misery, I just turned it off. As a citizen of the world who is deeply affected by what Trump has done to my thoughts of America, I wish I could just turn it off. Only to sit in the silence wondering if your Commander in Chief is going to vomit up orders to attack Canada because he heard that mainlining maple syrup direct into the jugular will cure the 'Rona and he's decided to annex André Pilon's Sugar Bush up the road from me.

Naw. I'll keep listening. I don't really need all this head hair.
