Watching it now. Nothing like a nuclear war to end it all

Is that show worth binge watching? What is good or bad about it? Can/should certain episodes or even seasons be skipped?

I've watch and enjoyed the show from the start but honestly all i could think of was this:

Man I was really into that show for about a year. And then you noticed they hadn't planned anything else out. Quit after season three when it just got ridiculous. How would Carrie still be in the CIA after her obvious mental breakdowns and farking the double agent anyway?

Season 1 is good. Season 2 is way too much of a romantic melodrama with some teenage angst thrown into the mix. I'd skip it entirely and read a synopsis online so you don't get lost. Season 3 wraps up the Brody timeline for the most part (thankfully.) They beat her relationship with Brody like a dead horse. It got pretty solid after that.

Actually, you could probably lose season 3 and not be out of much. Although there was a very good scene of Brody in Iran that I enjoyed. I farking hated that guy.

I checked out the minute it became apparent they didn't have the balls to let Brody blow everyone up. That obvious change of course farked them for the rest of the series. Well, that and the absolutely laughable sniper forest scenes.

Season 2 had the episode where she finally broke Brody down in the interrogation room, which might've been their best episode. Almost everything else else after that was pretty crap, and it went downhill from there. Finale was pretty good, but b/c Oleg, all I kept thinking was "man, I miss the Americans, that was a much better show."

Can't disagree about "The Americans." That was some top notch drama right there.

I felt like it ended just like any other season. It didn't feel like a finale. Seemed more to end with a set up to the next season.

Homeland, or as I call it the Carrie Matheson weepathon.

I've actually always really enjoyed the show, and after Season 3, it becomes more about spycraft and less about a love interest thing between handler and traitor.

Season 1 is phenomenal
Season 2 is meh
Season 3 is slightly better meh
Season 4-6 are good, though maybe less memorable.
Season 7 is disturbingly fantastic considering it was shot prior to Russiagate revelations.
Season 8 (this season) actually was pretty good, a bit 24-y but still pretty decent story telling.

a comment on AVClub basically sums up the series and what it was trying to tackle

"1. The human cost of spycraft
2. The fundamental impossibility of the intelligence state to accomplish its ends because of subterfuge, politics, and human frailty
3. The necessity of spycraft - there are actual monsters out there"

I think one of the best moments from early-ish seasons was the funeral at sea of a the show's Bin Laden.

Basically any scene with Mandy Patinkin is great. Even last night's episode, he was masterful.

/honestly, he is by far the best part of the show
//the episodes that are heavy with him are often some of the best

I prefer the mental canon that this was just a continuation of Oleg's character from the Americans. Though if the actor is getting type-cast into the role of Russian spy/handler, he's doing a fantastic job getting that type-cast

We binged it and actually got caught up last week, before the finale. I would agree with what most others have posted about each season.

1. Great
2. Not so much
3. On the upswing
4-The end. Solid, with some individual highs and lows on tbe episode level.

While entertaining overall, I would not sit through it again. Recommend it to others, sure...but I would not rate it above other recent/running shows such as Jack Ryan, Bosch, Goliath, Westworld, Ozark, or TMITHC.

Season 1 was great. But the show didn't get great again until after Season 3. I think the series got a lot better after you-know-what happened to you-know-who.

And the finale was perfect in every way.

Peter Quinn and Max....didn't deserve the endings they got, IMHO.

I agree completely. The other show I'll miss is Berlin Station on EPIX, good stuff.
