If only someone willing to uphold the oath of office and prosecute Trump for such a thing we're running the DOJ instead of a toady.

I am not sure he would understand the difference between "seditious" and "seductive", nor would he care.

Where do we go for our honorary political science / criminal justice degree for all the laws we've learned about by Trump breaking them?

He's not a communist or socialist so nothing will happen.

I think our president is stupid, but I don't think you could jam anymore superlatives or anti-superlatives "whatever the word is for that" into one article.

Also,

Dumb article is dumb. They put in the definition of sedition but fail to bold the part where it specifically refers to overthrowing or destroying the government of a state or federal government. If a simple protest is now going to be considered "an attempt to overthrow the government" then the 1st Amendment is entirely dead.

Most lay-people (who aren't POTUS) don't try to give medical advice or design buildings.

Yet every smuck on the street thinks they can do a lawyer's job and read/interpret a statute.

They help more than 'respectful' headings.  No one should respect him.. there's no excuse for it.

He gets someone else to jaywalk for him?   And then stiffs him for pay?

It's not the action or the specific law, in the USA, it seems. It's about who is committing the offense, and how it looks on the people who support that person politically. Rules don't always apply if you're a Repiblican.

At this point there should be a House select committee that does nothing but forward new Articles of Impeachment to the full House on a daily basis.

Trump was behaving seditiously before he ever left the Inauguration stand. But the RNC and the GOP in Congress have made it very clear that they will continue to support him slavishly for their own anti-democratic, power-seeking reasons, no matter what crap he pulls. And the right-wing majority of the Supreme Court has told him he can do any damn thing he wants, and they'll give him a pass. And we all know the right wing will lie, cheat, and steal to make sure they continue to control the crumbling election system in this country.

I'm 77 and I've politically active for a long time. And if we had all somehow known, back in the late '60s, what would happen here half a century later, I think we would have worked MUCH harder to pull off a successful revolution.

Who would have believed it?  This situation is so outlandish.  He's literally killing us with stupidity, and somehow, no one will prevent him from doing it.

Yes, but name-calling is one of those things that resonates with Trumpers so when it's turned back on them they notice it. They don't notice much but for some reason they all just loooove them some name-calling. I think Dirty Donnie is pretty perfect though.

Wouldn't get under his skin. He is corrupt, he wants to be corrupt, he knows we know it, and he doesn't care.

Better to call him weak.

I would think that enlisting the services of a hostile foreign power's intelligence network to get elected in the first place would qualify.

The usual "freedom to assemble" rap doesn't work right now. It violates the potus' own administration guidelines. Emergency powers in a pandemic are real - and, technically, if you are actively undermining those emergency powers, you are committing sedition. Read the statute - the only way it doesn't apply in principle is if you don't recognize state and local authority.

Enlisting the intelligence services of a hostile foreign country in order to obtain office is.
Note my lack of surprise that you can't get even one exchange into this discussion without calling names.
kind of undermines any "argument" you might attempt to submit, if you actually submitted one.

It was not a typo so much as autocarrot being a dick about a non-contraction combined with my lack of proofreading.

A number of states have their own sedition laws, you know. It is legally possible to commit sedition against a state government.
