The GOP took over the Southern Democrat playbook. You want poor people to be distracted from the things that would actually make their lives better--state-supported healthcare, excellent public education, strong social safety nets--by getting them to define success, not as what makes them succeed, but as what hurts the out-group.

That's what these rallies are.

Probably been asked and answered before, but why are these people not cited for breaking stay at home orders?

The same people who voted for Trump because he says what he means are arguing he didn't mean what he said.

People are gonna die because Karen wants to get her farking nails done.

So, these people are spending a lot of time packed together into a sealed compartment, as they're driven around and around to one mob scene after another.

Wonder how many of them will survive.

Too many.

Sounds like a moving mob full of the rona. That makes it seem like the number of people getting this from these protesters will be a lot higher than we would've thought.

Great job, Republicans.

People in my state have been cited for violating the order, but I think in all cases were added to other offenses, like DUI. A quick news search for my state basically gives discretion to the cops. Still no good reason not to cite these protesters in large groups.

fusillade762: People are gonna die because Karen wants to get her farking nails done.

It's not Karen, not really.

It's Karen's husband, who wants to go back to selling people crap they don't need at his truly non-essential business, bullying his poorly-paid staff and carrying on the affair with his admin that he thinks Karen doesn't know about. He would want to even if he hadn't spent every dime his business made on crap he and Karen didn't need, and didn't owe a mint on the house and both his and Karen's car, with no realistic way of avoiding foreclosure and repossession short of business miraculously returning to normal.

But please, blame Karen and her nail jobs for the fact her husband is facing financial ruin. He does so often, as he did even before the pandemic.

Heck, he even calls the female governor of his state Karen, one of his many habits that the real Karen deeply resents.

From the NYT report Salon cites:

The protests mostly appear to have been organized by local residents, and are framed primarily as pushback against what they view as government overreach. But some rallies have prominently featured iconography boosting Mr. Trump and Republicans and denouncing Democrats, as well the occasional Confederate flag and signs promoting conspiracy theories.

As was the case with the Tea Party movement, established national groups that generally align with the Republican Party have sought to fuel the protests...Nonprofit groups including FreedomWorks and Tea Party Patriots have used their social media accounts and text and email lists to spread the word about protests across the country.

S
o these are not Eurasian-style paid protesters (who at least, well, get paid). They're common clay being manipulated by Redcap, Inc. into doing their campaigning for free.

Trump thinks that when he hires crisis actors to cheer him, that's not a crime. It's essential work. Bust his ass down to Pig Reeve of Dogpatch.

Bussing people in? Across State lines?

Isn't taking someone across State lines for exploitation against the law?

Did these protesters have to sign waivers saying they wouldn't sue the organizers for any resulting hospitalization costs? I'm curious as to what kind of legal precautions the orchestrators are taking.

phrawgh: The same people who voted for Trump because he says what he means are arguing he didn't mean what he said.

That's been happening for years. During the election it was "he says what he thinks!" and after, there was a lot of "he totally didn't mean that stupid/racist/bonkers/incoherent thing that he clearly said."

Im a liberal who hates bussing due to the damn waste of time bringing a lot of children of colour to a mostly white school, while the school in the hood gets next to nothing.
I would prefer that the privs get bussed *in* and see just how damn fast school funding is increased in those schools.

Depends on their age. If they're under 60, 99% of them. If they're over 60 about 80% will survive.

The same Trump supporters who were bussed in from surrounding districts as well to attend the rallies?

"Major Republican donors are paying staffers to organize anti-lockdown protests, with plans to bus demonstrators to big cities to demand governors to let their businesses re-open and send their employees back to work."

Pretty sure another way to word that is GOP donors engage in biological warfare by paying to spread pestilence from city to city.
