The budget for the military demonstration teams are set at the beginning of the fiscal year.  Right now, airshows have been halted due to the virus.  NO EXTRA money will be spent on these shows, it has already been allocated.

We had 2 guys from my squadron there with an F-111 on static display.  They ended up helping people clear the area, said it was horrible.

Sounds like a reasonable value to me.

You're paying the pilots anyway, right? And presumably they have to do some amount of flying to maintain whatever qualifications they need?

Can't say I'm bothered too much.

/200k to fly to Guam and fire a captain however

I take my son to Wings over Houston every year.  It's almost walking distance away (Ellington) - we walk around for a couple of hours then go home and watch the air show from the driveway with the neighbors.

And I think this is a great idea that everyone can get behind.

CSB: Used to help EOD with the explosion demos during airshows at my base back in the day.  There were several of us from Munitions (MMS/MUNS) that would help out and those EOD guys were *not* used to how we farked with each other (nor was any other Flight on base).

I didn't get to see the flyover of the Academy, but they circled right around the house later in the day. I barely got my phone out in time to get a crappy picture. They continued left, rolling out of the turn and descending. They must have gone over downtown Colorado Springs REALLY low.

CELEBRATING PANDEMICS WHILE THEY'RE STILL KILLING PEOPLE! WOOOOOO!

All of the events those groups would normally be performing at are cancelled or postponed. Sure, jet fuel isn't free but you are paying the aviators and support crews whether they perform or not.

I am assuming it is in the constitution that we spend every dollar, no matter how unnecessary that activity is.  I could see us letting these guys spend some time with their family, and the ground crew as well to social distance.  They can KEEP the farking money, but lets not be stupid.

Not really? Congress appropriates and allocates the funds. The armed forces cannot simply choose to spend the money in a different way or for a different purpose.

Ta Da!  I know units have individual budgets, but a global pandemic should require spit and polish troops to stand down and allocate that money to health concerns, even if only within the military...see the Navy.

While I think you are right about that, this is not the time for the higher brow concerns of it.  The time is to just do the damn thing.  Take that fuel money (Oh noes, less JP4? being sold!) and apply it to the starving venues that need money to help the Corona situation.  At this point we need to focus on the Corona, jingoistic recruiting advertisements for the military being a moral failure on the part of our nation is something we can back burner for now.

One of the most impressive things I ever saw was a C130 presumably equipped to drop fire retardant foam flying low and slow over north Denver during the High Park Fire in 2011.  Like a fat bumblebee, those things have no business being in the air.  I'm not easily impressed by fighter jets though, because I grew up near an air national guard base and they'd fly overhead with annoying regularity.

Mostly with tax cuts to the rich and the rest is the money we pay to the feds that everyone seems to think is free money, but it isn't, you can look at your paycheck and see all the money taken out to give uncle sam, but don't worry. When stimulus checks go out it mostly goes to corps who have more money than god but just enough goes to us who pay money into federal programs that you can complain the everyman gets too much.

Or I misinterpreted your statements which I apologize for now if I did.
