C.S. Lewis would be overjoyed.

In the first Narnia book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the protagonist children are befriended by a couple of Talking Beavers who help hide them from the White Witch. However, in the second book, Prince Caspian, set a thousand (Narnian) years after the first, no Talking Beavers appear.  Despite their importance to the story, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver's line apparently died out in the meantime.  This was C.S. Lewis's subtle reference to the fact that beavers were hunted to extinction in Great Britain.

Extinction. You keep using that word but I don't think it means what you think it means.
