I am seeing this interview with WAPO but can't find it on CNN--it is possible that Trump has just decided to hate CNN at the moment.  From the interview...

"There's a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through," CDC Director Robert Redfield said in an interview with The Washington Post. "And when I've said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don't understand what I mean."
"We're going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time," he said.

Asked about protests against stay-at-home orders and calls on states to be "liberated"from restrictions, Redfield said: "It's not helpful." The president himself has tweeted encouragements of such protests, urging followers to "LIBERATE MINNESOTA!" and "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!"

Hmmmm I wonder which of these actual quotes Trump seems to have a problem with?

When you are at war with the truth you have to fight multiple fronts at the same time.

Trump's not a fan of the truth.
The truth is that the virus isn't magically go away anytime soon.  Sure, it's going to downgrade to the point where you can go to restaurants and congregate in groups of more than 10 people, but that's going to take time.
And if the 1918 pandemic is an guide, the virus will return when social distancing is considered to be unneeded.
A bloviating, self congratulatory press conference won't change that.

Sorelian's Ghost:
When you are at war with the truth you have to fight multiple fronts at the same time.

He's got a tough job ahead of him.  He has to convince his base that not only is he the greatest medical mind ever, pushing his miracle drug that may just outright kill you, instituting travel bans, immigration suspended, immediate need of a border wall, etc because of how great a threat the virus is, while simultaneously claiming that it is an overblown hoax to make him look bad and a democratic plot since they didn't remove him from office for all the other crimes he did.

And yet a good solid 40% of the country is going to say "Yeah, he did really do a lot saving us from that virus that was also a democrat hoax or a chinese biological attack but also wasn't really even as bad as the flu."

Failure has infinite scapegoats, but Trump himself is the only reason for success.

You know this, "Liberate this/that!" business? It truly puzzles me. Does Trump have any endgame of any kind with this strategy?

Right?!? He's supporting people protesting HIS policies while blaming the governors. And now the DOJ is going to prosecute governors for following federal guidelines.

But they aren't HIS policies.  They are just policies that the adults in his administration tell him he needs to implement.  Trump's tweets and rally remarks are the real insight into his thinking.  His priorities are not making good decisions.  It is to fuel his ego, go out to do his rallies and golf, see himself on TV owning anybody that criticizes him.

He is the "policy.  It really is all about him.

Chris Hayes had a segment on Fauci and Obama popped up. It was kind of like this:

Dr. Fauci and I were reminiscing fondly the other day about AIDS and the H1N1 flu. <cue laughter>
Because, you know, that's all he thinks about.

His delivery was, as usual, impeccable. I laughed.

The old video of Fauci over the years was great. We need him back on TV to help clarify this crap. He is so good at it.

I don't see why not. It's high time the White House hosted a military cosplay convention. Trump should dress up. He said he'd be so good at the military, it'll make your head spin!

No. There is no strategy. All he cares about is winning today's news cycle.

That's it.

It's the Dead Cat Strategy with no actual strategy.

Uhhhhh... These farking people keep saying the shiat they're going to do, no one believes them, then they do it like they said. It's been 3 1/2 farking years of this already.

He's the Attorney General. He can put the resources of the DOJ to work against them.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/04/william-barr-coronavirus-restrictions-legal-action-house-arrest
The attorney general's belief that restrictive stay-at-home policies aren't worth the potential public health benefit could even inspire him to take legal action, as Barr warned Tuesday that "we'll have to address" governors who don't follow Trump's reopening guidance "and impinge on either civil rights or on the national commerce, our common market." When Hewitt brought up the possibility of citizens suing their states over stay-at-home restrictions, Barr said that the Justice Department "would take a position" on lawsuits if "justified." "We're looking carefully at a number of these rules that are being put into place. And if we think one goes too far, we initially try to jawbone the governors into rolling them back or adjusting them," Barr said. "And if they're not and people bring lawsuits, we file statement of interest and side with the plaintiffs."

What, you don't think he will? And won't also probably come up with some other legally dubious way to pressure the states Trump wants pressured. If you don't think so then I'll just go ahead and post what I'm going to put in the inevitable thread a few weeks/months from now when he does exactly what he said he would do and anyone foolishly acts surprised:

HE FARKING SAID HE WAS GOING TO.
