You're not a certified clean freak until you have to call 911 after accidentally mixing bleach and ammonia.

I hear a good whiff of the resulting fumes will kill any coronavirus that might be in your system.

Also, don't put bleach in a toilet you just urinated in. 14 y.o. me learned that lesson, and also learned that chemistry is awesome one weekend back in the 90s.

/The Basic Training gas chamber was still worse.

If you can't manage to clean your house without killing yourself...

I was alone for nearly all my childhood. And I mixed the wrong things more than once. Open a window, get out of said room.
Never died, never needed to call anyone. Would have gotten in trouble.
You all, some of you, are odd!

Well that does certainly explain a few things.

2020-04-21 8:39:43 AM
Easy rules:
- Bleach is dangerous. Don't mix with anything but water. Don't mix ammonia with anything else.
- Don't use anything on food or your skin not made to be applied to them. Alcohol is generally ok.
- Don't dump lots of ammonia products where there is no air circulation.  Open some windows.

You also can't mix bleach with vinegar or alcohol. It's just too reactive.

The best home cure for the Magavirus is to take a pound or two of inner peach pits, and crush them and make a strong tea, and drink it.

A CDC analysis published Monday shows there were about 20 percent more calls to poison centers in January, February, and March than in the same span last year

This is just what happens whenever American kids have to stay home with American moms long after the wine supply runs out.  The pandemic is... incidental.

In a sideways manner, pointing out we should get vaccines.  Being vaccines introduce weak germs so we can defend against the real thing.  But when a new germ hits our system that our body never seen before, it matters not what germs you faced before, body doesn't know what to do with the new threat.  If he was alive today, I bet he would be indoors.

Not actually true. Exposure to a similar disease can also confer some degree of immunity.

Yep.  The observation that dairy farmers, who were regularly exposed to cowpox, were largely immune to smallpox is what led to the smallpox vaccine.

When George mentioned a superbug, that means nothing similar has been presented before.  Because once we have something to combat it, it is no longer a superbug.  100 years ago, Spanish Flu was a superbug.  Today, most people aren't affected by it.  One day, coronavirus won't be a superbug either.

In a weird way, it's like Batman cartoon show.  Each time a supervillain is introduced to Gotham, that person is the worst enemy Batman has faced.  Yet after Batman barely wins, that villain comes back, and is easily beaten, and never presents the same kind of threat as the first time.  I'm not sure if anyone else noticed that in the old Batman cartoon show, but it stuck with me that they writers did that.

You can always tell when folks discover that just using a wet cloth is not actually cleaning.  It's removing the obvious debris, so that the surface is mostly ready for real cleaning.

But I work with people that swear they've cleaned their workspace or the office kitchen or restroom, and they are only kidding themselves.  Damp wiping a counter top and emptying the trash can is not cleaning.  It's decluttering at best, and misleading.

For anyone that can't handle bleach properly, get some Pine Sol.  The original formula kills germs, while the newer scents and colors just deodorize.
