For the pickled onions

Are beans the ingredient we need to be discussing here?

I'm a fan of boring 1970s American tacos, with ground beef, cumin, tomato base, and cheddar cheese, maybe some lettuce and tomato if I'm feeling ambitious.  50% of my taco consumption is described by this boring, yet tasty taco.

Then again, I also like fish tacos, Korean BBQ tacos, and pretty much all sorts of other weird food combinations in my taco.  Eat what you like.

Yes.  Refried beans act as a bit of a glue to help keep ground beef from falling out, and keep it from falling apart completely if you accidentally break a hard shell taco.

If it's a soft taco with shredded meat, it's not as important, but beans and crickets were traditionally more typical than most of the meats we have in them today, as cows and pigs were brought by Europeans.

In my highly-scientific testing, a thin layer of properly cooked refried beans at the bottom of the taco shell to keep the beef secured is an excellent addition.

I don't think beans are traditional in tacos, doesn't mean their not good though

Yup, as a kid when all I knew were tacos from an old el paso kit, we used to make our tacos with all the fixin's, then take refried beans and completely paste over the whole thing to keep it all together.

Soft tacos, the tortilla will get a nice buttering with beans before assembly.

I'd put these in a taco.

No. You fish them out of the jar of pickled jalapenos. Nom.

As to beans, I saw this yesterday on their email blast, said no, and didn't read it.

Sure, why not? Put whatever the fark you want in a taco.

I use equal parts of ground beef and refried beans in my tacos.

Refried beans do.

Stop trying to gatekeep food. People can eat whatever they want, however they want.

This.

I'll make beans and rice on the side but make them however you desire.

Yes I'll accept that, but I won't accept rice in a burrito

A bean and cheese taco on a fresh homemade tortilla with some hot sauce is some tasty stuff I don't mind tellin ya. When the cheese is all melty. Wish I had some of that shiate right now

I read that in the voice of Miracle Max

I eat tacos only made with those small soft corn tortillas. No ground beef, so no need for some kind of binding agent. Definitely no beans. When I'm in the mood for ground beef and beans I'll just get a burrito. That's a good time to mix in something like beans and/or rice.

I've put beans into a taco myself, but I've seen it online. Seems like they're just gonna take up room that could be cheese.

An awesome taqueria, Tita's, has loco bueno breakfast tacos and they offer a layer of frijoles. The place isn't too far from IAH, north of Houston.

Absolutely, if that's what you like.  Personally, I despise refried beans, but they are always on the table on Mexican night because the wife and kid love them.  Who gives a shiat what other people eat.

but what DO you put inside your corn tortillas? vegetables? carnitas? escamoles?

i'm pretty sure something has to be in there to convert it from "just 2 tortillas" into "a taco!"

My favorite taco is (well flavored) mashed potato lettuce and cheese

Discuss!

/the guy who makes them is from Jalisco
//I'm not an authenticity snob, they're just the best tacos ever
///his ahogado tacos may be better, actually, they have refried beans, and yes they belong there:)
////but I digress digress digress

I thought that went without saying. Al pastor, cabeza, or lengua are all acceptable meats to me for tacos. For the other ingredients diced onion and cilantro plus a salsa, I usually go for a medium spicy one. The mild ones usually have no spiciness at all, and the hot ones usually have too much.

excellent choices! "mexican street style tacos" and "ground beef american tex-mex style tacos" are both delicious, but in my opinion about as related to each other as a ham sandwich and a peanut butter sandwich

i can only find the type you like if i make them at home where i live now.

My current Go-To Grubhub order is from Taco Bell: 12-taco party pack filled with beans, cheese, and lettuce.  With sauce packets, of course.  I love nuking them next morning, it makes the cheese melty.

This is a pretty silly statement, of course beans belong in tacos, just about anything can go in a tortilla and be a taco.  Look up tacos de guisado, they have just about anything you can imagine in them.

This.  People eating weird stuff is how we get new good stuff to eat.
