is this the only country on earth now having public, sometimes armed, protests against life-saving stay-at-home orders?

is part of that because we're not getting realistic amounts of monetary aid, in an orderly fashion, guaranteed for months, like canada? or because in the US people who lost their jobs also lost their healthcare? or because even the people who have healthcare have huge deductibles and out-or-pockets, and who the hell knows what corona expenses will be covered? or because the 1000s and 1000s of small businesses now going bankrupt were not actually helped at all by the government measures that promised to help them, as we watched rich people get more tax breaks, and multi-billion dollar businesses suck up what seems to be unlimited government aid?

or because the president is actively making the situation worse every single day and every single tweet, perhaps only outshone on this front by the president of brasil?

or simply because americans are armed, angry, ignorant idiots just by their very nature?

At some point, someone will compare the death rate in the US and the death rate in countries that took stronger measures, and you will find out how many tens of thousands of people Trump (and his supporters) indirectly caused the death of.

The people protesting are up to their eyeballs in debt, having squandered the proceeds of refusing to pay their staff properly on McMansions, fancy cars, and crap they didn't need.

All they care about is that they have a month or two to go before the repo man takes the car and the bank takes the house, and they have to go work at Amazon or the grocery store for little more than they were paying their staff all this time, consistently firing them for asking for a wage that was more than bare substitence.

They want to be able to text their staff and say, "Okay, snowflakes, vacation is over. Hope it was worth it. Anybody refusing to report for work tomorrow morning need not return to work at all. Good luck looking for another job after what China and the (((Democrats))) did to the economy.

" By the way---effective immediately your pay will be reduced to minimum wage or by 20 percent, whichever cut is bigger.

"Thanks for making my business the success it's always been and will be again!"

It's been decades since any decent human being or patriot voted Republican, the entire congressional delegation* felt comfortable announcing they'd like to end the republic.

*Except Amash, who is still a racist economically illiterate shiatbag and no longer Republican; and Romney, a sociopathic plutocrat who typically half assed it and even then only because his personal grudge with Trump and the death cult his constituency is in cares more about appearances than the death cult of the American evangelical.

Donald Trump has been getting people killed for years.

Liberals and moderates really need to wake the fark up to the fact that there's a violent and determined wing of American terrorist conservatism out there that has been killing Americans at a rate that would make bin Laden blush and they've not only been doing it since the 1970s, the Republican party and "mainstream" conservatism have been simultaneously drifting toward it while normalizing its speech, actions and beliefs.

They're not going to get people killed. They are killing people, have been for decades, and have thousands, of highly placed cheerleaders throughout government and media defending and encouraging them.

2020-04-19 5:16:56 PM
A good case can be made that Trump is literally demonic. As in, actually demon-possessed, and craves death.

Democrats shy away from that kind of talk, but a large percentage of America is highly attuned to it. Democrats would be wise to saturate certain regional airwaves making the point that Trump is in league with the devil, and showing the ways he is an Anti-Christ (not necessarily the Anti-Christ, but one among others).

It wouldn't be inaccurate, and certain people would be very receptive to the message.

But Bush was, in case you hadn't noticed, two administrations ago. If Obama did nothing about it, Trump certainly won't.

Posted in an earlier thread:

Here's the thing, and I'll probably get criticized for this post, but the honest fact is that liberals don't have a "killshot" mentality when dealing with right wing extremists.

When's the last liberal/D pol you've ever heard to be a "crime and punishment" type pol? Sure they are for hate crimes legislation and all that, but did you hear any D talking about "giving the Charlottesville killer the electric chair"? D's are generally loathe on being seen as "tough on crime", feeling that concept is a right wing thing first and foremost.

Police and LE in general? There's no Antifa or socialists running to join any law enforcement agency anytime soon. Even if in theory, hiring was 100% non-political and free of bias, that wouldn't happen.

Gun ownership? Very rarely, you'll see a D hang out with a liberal gun group in public or openly be pro gun, unless you're a D in some western state like MT, ID, WY, etc. One of the reasons why the gun industry is right wing is that there's really no liberals that will buy their "tacticool" accessories, even if they did exist.

LBJ probably was the last D pol that struck legitimate fear into the minds of right wingers - as in they were honest to God scared of him, not so nebulous fear that we assign to them today. So now what you have is a larger number of liberals in government than before, but a rabid right wing base that doesn't really face that much resistance, even if D's were in office. They'd pretty much have to go almost 180 degrees from what got them elected.

2020-04-19 5:25:16 PM
I'm convinced at this point they just want Americans to die.

No idea why, but after a certain point you have to accept this is the outcome they want.  They *want* this.  It doesn't matter if it's by desire or incompetence, the end is the same.  They're going to do everything in their power to allow as many people to die as possible.

Trump's ignorance could be at least partially responsible for COVID-19 becoming a pandemic. We had people in China specifically watching for novel coronaviruses, and helping scientists from other nations do the same. Trump shut them down, only a few months before the COVID virus made the jump to humans.

If we had still had our people there, there's a very real chance they could have helped contain the virus before it spread out of control, or at least could have helped America get ahead of Xi's propaganda and start preparing.
