If you don't like it don't apply. Some people have to work to eat.

Sit down and think carefully about the logic of your claim. In fact, maybe think before you post so you don't look like an absolute moron.

It isn't binary. Go to work get a disease and die v. don't go to work don't get a disease and don't die.

Some people want to work, some people have no alternative, we all take risks every day, people can make their own decisions.

N.B I didn't submit this.

My university job will get hours officially cut sometime in the next two weeks.  Might go to zero.  Today I applied to stock shelves at Sam's club because I believe this will be a full on economic depression and we'll have some form of quarantine for a very long time.  That means lots of competition for all jobs.

Grocery or superstore jobs seem safest looking at the next 6-24 months but I'm trying for minimum of public contact.

Why did you do that? What was the point? Did you read the thread? Are you insulting people who take the only jobs that are to be had?

I'm sure working at Walmart isn't most people's ideal job, but it is a job and there is dignity in all work.

I went to Walmart today. So busy. I'm wearing a double mask. I'm waiting at the end of aisles for the one person to move who has their cart against one shelf while they stand in front of the other shelf.

I get out of there and go next door to Stop and Shop and there are less people there. Much easier to walk around without having to be near anybody.

After my second approach to an aisle in more than five minutes with the same woman standing with her back to the product 3' from what I wanted, I decided to be brave and invade her 6' space to get what I wanted, since she was clearly involved in an epic inner struggle to decide which fake tea to buy.

So what's your process? Do you just run over there? Do you nudge her out of the way? Have you tried saying (from a distance*) "Can you just move away for a moment so I can get what I need?"

Farkers gonna fark. It's getting almost as bad as Facebook around here, and I left that shiathole a year and a half ago. It's amazing, the way cowards behave behind the anonymity of a username.

Walmart is well known for not paying enough for people to live on. They help their employees fill out applications for food stamps.

And it sucks that that's where we're at. But calling someone a moron because they're willing to take the only thing that's being offered now goes beyond not helping.

Given the difficulty they're having in their supply chain (from DC to store to shelf), I'm surprised it isn't more. They STILL can't keep shelves stocked fast enough.

You know, I hear this statement all the time about helping people fill out for food stamps. I worked for Walmart for 9 years(feels like a lifetime ago). In that timeframe, never once did I ever help someone fill out any application for government assistance not did I ever see anyone else doing so. And this was during the major years of Walmarts "they're forcing people to food stamps" media blitz.

Fun fact, if your credit is bad Walmart won't hire you. One can literally be too broke to work at Walmart.

You can have good credit and be broke. As long as you're not defaulting on loans and credit cards, it will be good enough to work at Walmart.

No they don't. There's one HR lady in my whole supercenter. I make enough stocking shelves that I would only qualify for food stamps if I had kids, and pretty much any entry level position in retail/restaurant work pays the same way.

Hell, factories here tend to start out $13/hr and brake mechanics can start as low as $10/hr. Construction can start out $10-11/hr according to the local Craigslist. And that is with the current minimum wage at $9.35 for our state.

No snark. If it's a "fact" can you post a link to support this because it seems highly unbelievable.

I've met people in recovery (AA) doing work at Walmart as "Associates" or overnight stocking while recovering from alcoholism, debt, jail terms, etc.  tjsands1118's assertion is bullshiat as far as I know.
