GardenWeasel: The writer doesn't understand the United States Constitution.

The Constitution is fairly clear:  Congress can create a PO, regulate it, sell it to private industry, pretty much whatever they decide to do, as long as the POTUS and Supreme Court are along for the ride.  It only says:

Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, known as the PostalClause or the Postal Power, empowers Congress "To establish Post Offices and PostRoads".

Congress, can, in fact, just do away with the Post Office as long as POTUS agrees.

One thing is VERY clear:  POTUS can't do anything about the PO without Congress doing it first.

I feel like FB has a far wider reach. Same Russian-influenced propaganda campaigns, same over the top racism, same news-twisting noise machine, just a lot bigger, louder and you can interact with your crazy uncle you only see once every few years when he kicks the meth long enough to show up for half of Thanksgiving dinner.

"Acquire".

It's in the Constitution! We can't let anyone else "acquire" the postal service, period.

If we took out the ridiculous pension requirement, they'd make it without extra funding.

Just let Carl's Jr. brand it.

Or, put two little Epcot center replicas at the base of it and use it as a promo for "Ow! My Balls!"

What If some dipshiat, no-name hack farted out a headline about Jeff Bezos acquiring the U.S. Postal Service when it had not been realistically floated as an idea by anyone else?

Would it mean that when the Pope shiats in the woods it does make a sound?

/betteridge's law etc

What if Bezos tries to acquire the US Navy? What would that mean for the USN and us?

...actually, using big-ass guns to fire packages onto front porches would be amazing.

2020-04-14 10:14:23 AM
This is another distraction.

Deep down, Trump's handlers (and the GOP in general) know letting the US Postal Service run like a business will be their doom because it is their voters who use it and rely on it the most.

But BY ALL MEANS, GOP/Trump, PLEASE, I AM BEGGING YOU... PROCEED with your fantasies about "streamlining" the United States Postal Service. In fact, do just ONE THING: close enough Post Offices in such a way that there is only ONE Post Office per ZIP Code.

Go ahead. I dare you.

They would have to change the Constitution to privatize it. I don't think that is going to happen.

Wasn't that the whole point of giving the richest 1,000 Americans $4T in the middle of a giant economic meltdown? They're supposed to usher in the next robber baron super monopolist era.

The what-ifs on that are lulzy. Bezos gets tired of everyone's shiat. Buys FB and Twitter and shuts them down. I know it would be less than a week before some other San Jose moron opens another ripoff, but damn, what a glorious week it would be. Plus, Tom would finally get a few more people to join his site again, haha.

I think they should consider it. I mean, why are they funding pensions for people who haven't even been born yet? *

And what's going to happen if they don't?

*(The answer is of course so that Congress can have a slush fund to borrow against that won't show up in the budget deficit)

Heraclitus: I wonder why Billionaires are so afraid of Unions?

Because they create workplace tension (Union vs Non-Union), invite politics (Lobbying/Picketing), and expand corruption (Does This Really Need An Example?)?

I wonder what would happen if the post office just stopped doing that, and just funded 10 years.
