I saw the trailer and I am soooooo glad I don't have kids. I've sat through some of the worst films ever created, but these kids movies they have out these days would make me want to step in front of a bus. I really don't know how some parents do it.

We've enjoyed going to the local drive-in. We saw Shaun of the Dead two weeks ago. The Hunt last week. Gonna finally see The Invisible Man tomorrow night. $7 for 2 people.

Drinking would seem like the obvious solution but imagine the same movie but hungover.

I was thinking the other day that after the pandemic that Drive-In theaters might make a comeback.

If they make it so the autos can link to the sound system via wi-fi they'd sound really damn good.

Still have to provide speakers for folks with older autos though.

Sleeping through hangovers isn't an option if you have the kind of kids interested in a Trolls movie.

You mean like broadcasting over a radio station not in use? Because that's what they do. I haven't seen one with the actual window hang speakers in a long time, probably when my friend's mom took us to see Lion King....early to mid 90s?

I live 1 mile from a drive in.  Mid march, when everything got shut down, my gf and I wanted to see a movie and the drive in seemed perfect, even though we're both old and usually in bed by 9 PM.  Nope, they closed.  Why?  Here in San Diego it's been raining for the past month.  We're all in our cars, the windows will be rolled up, we just won't be hitting the snack bar.

IMHO, the local drive in missed out on a gold mine by shutting down.  Hell, they could re-run old movies like Alien or Godfather, pay nothing for the movie, and rake in the bux via people like us who just want to get out of the house.

/ we won't think of 61 y/o me trying to remember how to get high school girls into the back seat
// not to mention the gf is 75
/// we just don't bend that way anymore, plus it's not like we've never done "it".

I took my daughter to see the first Trolls movie and actually liked it.

I thought for sure it would be terrible, but it wasn't.

Haven't seen this new one but I'll be happy to watch it.    I have a daughter and son to watch it with this time.  I'm guessing my son loves the Rockers and my daughter loves Poppy.

Just a wild guess

It's been over 30 years since I went to a drive-in.
I had no idea they were doing that with radios.

They closed down the drive-in here because of the stay at home order. They were open just two weekends before shiat went tits up. We bought season passes, so hopefully they'll be open when the stay home order is lifted.

Allegedly, Fandango's server crashed for a while when it came out on Friday.
They were offering a discount for the rental.

Low power Fm. As soon as you enter the lot, you should be able to tune into the movie. Just like those elaborate Christmas light shows where if you're near the house, you just tune into the frequency displayed on the sign.

I don't know why this isn't being done yet. Maybe it's the logistics of syncing the movie with the audio. But it would be kinda cool.

I had just responded to Trik's post about low power FM. I didn't know they were doing that now. It makes sense. And it sure beats having the awkward speaker with the crappy sound perched precariously on your window.

I miss having a drive in theatre. My city had one, but the new owners sold the land that it was on. They said they would bring it back to a new area, but that never happened. It has been 4 years now. There is another about a half hour drive, but we got 9 inches of snow yesterday, and some more right now. Winter came early, and it just won't farking leave.

The first Trolls movie was surprisingly decent considering expectations going in. And I agree that there's a ton of shiatty kids programming out there. But it's always been that way.

Small radio transmitter. Speakers haven't been a thing since sock hops and disco.

I'm sceptical. They're charging £16 for a farking rental, and there's no way I'd pay that. I mean, you can buy a lot of kids DVDs for less than that.

Eh. The original wasn't so bad, you know, the first 150-200 times. Theeeeeeeeeen it kinda grated on me. Not so much as CARS 2, that was totally insufferable.

I just say, come on guys, we're not watching that. They get mad but they get over it. We have movie night on Friday and this week watched the Cat from Outer Space. I am the captain of this house, and if my kids decide they want to grow up to be bitter and resentful of me because I didn't let them watch Trolls 2, I guess that's a risk I'm willing to take.

Yes... but thats a perfect storm to try something like this.  Everyone is stuck at home. The kids are bored.  the rental is expensive, but probably worth it, to a lot of frazzled parents.    20 bucks to entertain the whole family for a night, isn't terrible.

Yeah, for a family it's pretty cheap considering what the alternative at the theater would have been.

I saw the preview today with my kids, and instantly cheered for the rock, which got me in trouble with everyone else.  I refused to relent. I liked the rock, even though they seem to be cast as the bad guys.
