Accepting yourself, and then putting yourself out there can be terrifying steps. I wish you nothing but happines and love.

We queers may not have hijacked the flag, but we totally hijacked this thread.
(this does NOT qualify us for our free toaster though)

I'm crying right now.  Literally crying.  I'm middle-aged, and shouldn't have to be dealing with these issues now, while we are in the midst of a life-or-death pandemic.  All of those years wasted with make-up and curling rods, nylons and heels, when I could have just been *me*.

/don't need a new toaster, thank gord.  Will pay that forward to anyone who needs one, though.

I saw a double rainbow while driving by a Double Rainbow Cafe in Albuquerque years ago.

What does it mean?

My Sober Alt: I find the part that I bolded a little hard to believe. Maybe one drunk gay guy saw it and hit on you? I don't know.

To be fair, having a DIY rainbow light fixture in your living room is about one of the gayest things possible. And it was the 90s, so it might seem like a refreshing beacon to any drunk gays walking by.

I get it, i really do!
I am a trans woman and I couldn't accept myself until I was 44-45. I came out three years ago and starting medically transitioning 15 months ago, this is a terrible time to be going through it.

Use bees 🐝 instead.

Clan Crozier has bees on its crest.

And it can represent all the people still working.

chieromancer: Did anyone ask the gays?

I saw a lesbian TERF blog claiming that the idea of having rainbows on windows was invented by paedophiles to induce children to accept trans people. Some people are very strange.

I *truly* wish you the best.  (I'd say something about "thoughts and prayers", but I'm an atheist.)  I'd love to talk about my loved one who is transgender, but I have made the choice that their story is theirs alone, and not for me to spread about.  Instead, I hope you find resolution and peace with your life, and learn to say "fark it" to those who my try to diminish you.  By this point in our development, we should know that our DNA makes us incredibly complex creatures, and trying to shoehorn us into A vs B does us nothing but harm, whether we are talking about gender, sexuality, or sex.

Maybe this will be the end result of all of Trump's hate.  That the majority of us will learn to love each other, no matter what.  Even if one single person can walk away from this saying that they well and truly learned to "love thy neighbor", maybe it will be worth it.

Thanks Iggie, I am actually in a great place now, I have a cis wife who is the absolute bomb and we have a partner who is also a trans woman.

I appreciate you not telling the story about your loved one and I agree, it is their truth to share. I am a pathologically open person with very few boundaries and share anything with anyone who is interested. I also encourage everyone to talk about me to anyone who might need to reach out. I fully understand trans folks not wanting to be outed or clocked, but find it unbelievably self isolating. I go out of my way to make sure folks know I am good with being outed, and encourage them to approach me.

I hope the result of this administration is that people actually start seeing one another with love, however I find the opposite is happening in my backwoods little town. The people who fear and hate seems to be emboldened by this crap spewing creamcicle of hate since he shares their ideals.

But we push on.

You know...I dismissed that guy's post as derp from a trollish git, but reading through this thread, I gotta say there DOES seem to be some validity to the notion of the rainbow as a signaling device.

I mean, if you were to objectively count the number of posts in here by gays vs the number of posts by gays in other threads, It would seem to lend some credibility that it is at least a signaling device.

I Don't think that means others can't use it for whatever they want to, but at the very least, they should expect some confusion.

It is all about the context,
Fly a pride flag, post a pride symbol, yes, signaling

Have a rainbow or prism on signs, logos, schools, clothes. Then probably not signaling,
Unless it is June, then those farkers just want me to think they are cool so I will give them money

/ Totally has pride shiat all over her truck
// And pride flags on her home

From TFA this is more about giving kids something fun to do. Kids of pretty much any age can paint a rainbow and have people know that's what they've painted.

Lots of the houses I can see from my third floor flat have hand painted rainbows hanging in the front window. They're all very obviously painted by kids.

Sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow dudes.

Yes, it is about keeping children something to do. But, I totally expect some adult to come along, try to market it and ruin it for them.

Nonsense. Just cover yourself with honey. Eventually you'll draw bees.

And flies.

And wasps.

And bears.

Oh, bother.
