With Easter approaching, Kelly, a Democrat, issued the order Tuesday because of three outbreaks that had been connected to religious gatherings.

So typical. A reasonable, fact-based decision overturned just because someone with a (D) after their name made it.

Stigginit, defined.

Well, Subby, if it were a well-designed scientific study it would quickly show that gathering with a crowd of one's fellows spreads, rather than cures, the plague and puts one at greater risk. That is sure to happen.

The Legislative Coordinating Council voted 5-2

So a seven person council can overrule the governor? You'd think there would need to a vote of the full body or a higher court decision.

In my mind's eye I see a Redcap reading a news article from a few days ago saying that 70 percent of confirmed cases in Chicago were black, and deciding right there and then that God had sent the virus to save America from Joe Biden and he would be thanking Him for that at church on Easter Sunday.

A friend of mine spend hours today trying to find churches that are still open for services in Kansas. She found one: 16 Mile Sabbath Keepers in Garden City. Thankfully, most of our pastors appear to have better heads on their shoulders than the Republicans in the state legislature.

From Wikipedia:

Wagle survived bouts with cancer in 1995, 2003, and 2012

Go cancer, I know you can do it.

In prior episodes of church based spread, choirs were hit particularly hard.

You've probably been reading about it not just being coughing and sneezing but normal talking produces droplets. We've all witness others (or ourselves) having the occasional salivary gland ejaculate forward a droplet to two. Well sing out that good old "Onward Christian Soldiers" at the top of your lungs, breath in deep and fill your lungs, sing it from the diaphragm.

With enough bold hymns, I think the inoculations can be grandiose. One virus shedder can easily infect 20 strangers. And we can expect them to infect their families. And I fear that some of that circle may well work at nursing homes. And maybe we'll even get a gas station attendant or two. Maybe someone who makes the coffee at a local truck stop. Praise the lord. I just hope they greet the pastor after service.

A Korean church was the source of the super-spreading event that kicked off their epidemic in a big way. It's been hypothesized that that particular church's ritual of having everyone yell out their churchy words in close proximity to each other was spraying coronavirus droplets around like a bunch of biohazard wacky sprinklers.

Also, not many people work in the word ejaculate into a nonsexual context these days... good on you for letting it out for a change of pace.

Sedgwick County, population 518,000 and home of Kansas's largest city, has an order than bans all gatherings of non-essential businesses over 10 people that covers churches.  They will only allow outdoor parking lot services where everyone is in their cars spaced out over 6 feet apart.

What happened to the days when you had party differences and point of views, but people still, for the most part, worked together. Sure you tried to push your agenda over the other guy's, but you worked together in a crisis, and didn't burn your house down because you didn't like the color of paint the previous occupant used.
Now its just "fark the other guy, I will do the opposite of whatever he wants, even if its something I actually agree with and might greatly harm myself in doing."

Which is okay, in my book.

The thing is- these people lack faith. Because it doesnt count if one is sitting in a car, hearing the service on say, a mobile phone on , say, a youtube channel.

It's even worse than that.

The move came after Attorney General Derek Schmidt, a Republican, said that while the order was "sound public-health advice that Kansans should follow," he was discouraging law enforcement agencies and prosecutors statewide from attempting to enforce the requirements.

In other words "We know it is a bad idea but we are doing it anyway"

A stupid person with COVID-19 is as infectious as a smart one and, our feelings be damned, as deserving of medical care. You don't withhold care from someone you don't like. Sorry.
You can jail them later.

"Little Tommy was having trouble in math, so his mother enrolled him in a Catholic school, thinking the discipline would help him. He immediately started studying furiously every night, and soon came home with an A on his report card. His proud but confused mother asked, "Tommy, what did the nuns do to motivate you so much?" "Well," he replied. "When I got to school and saw that guy nailed to the plus sign in the lobby, I knew they weren't fooling around!"

2020-04-09 1:49:52 AM
However, Schmidt said that it is important for Kansans to "follow sound public health advice and do not gather for religious services or for any other reason until the COVID-19 crisis has passed."

"I am confident Kansans of faith can be trusted to follow that important advice without their government threatening criminal sanctions for disobedience," he said in the statement.

No, they cannot be trusted. These are people who believe that some magical sky fairy will protect them from COVID-19.

Stupid people are more infectious, but if you really think it's God's plan that you should ignore logic, then go to church and get infected, maybe it's also God's plan for you to step aside and let someone else use that ventilator.  Say, someone who got infected in a less stupid, less avoidable way.

Yeah, we're well into this and covid19 is burning through them like wildfire.  Oh wait...

This weird obsession with(mostly) sparsely populated states not enacting statewide mandates reeks of mob mentality and an inability to deal with people who manage a common problem in a different manner.  The Dakotas are near the bottom of the list when it comes to infection and death rate.  Maybe they are doing OK by voluntarily taking preventative steps without a state mandate telling them to do so.
