Sending a bunch of older Republican voters to the polls in person during a pandemic for a primary vote..... Yep no way this could possibly back fire on you for November.....

Once again, proof that Republicans are vile slime. They think Democrats will stay home, while Republicans are the only ones dumb enough to go hang out in crowds. They don't care about their own voters; they only care about getting their evil candidates elected.

Just remember that the Dem Gov of WI tried to postpone this due to health risks and GOP in state legislature voted to keep it, regardless of the risks.

The GOP doesn't care if you die.

Not just voted to keep it, but actively worked to ensure that there was no option other than in-person voting on this day.

it's totally possible to implement social distancing at polling stations though? like if Walmart and Costco can do it with the yokels that go to those places, it shouldn't be that hard at a polling place?

Except poll workers don't want to work so Milwaukee's 180 polling places are down to 5. How can you possibly practice social distancing in a situation like that?

Oh, sure.  But let's add that you reduce 180 Walmarts to just 5 and they're the only store available as with polling stations in Milwaukee.  Social distancing should be no problem at all.

It absolutely is.  But the thing is, there's no reason to.  Just farking do mail in.  So many states already do it without issue.  And if you absolutely don't want to do that for some farked up reason, delaying the vote for a month or 2 harms nothing.  There's literally no reason to put people's lives at risk for this to happen NOW.

And there is probably some rule about wearing a mask in a polling place.

I can also see Republicans locking the doors at 7pm when the polls are supposed to close so nobody else can get in.  Regardless of the line extending around the block with people at socially acceptable distances.  No way to prove those people were in line to vote.

If every state mailed a ballot to every registered voter (like WA does for example), the current incarnation of the republican party would lose forever.

They have openly admitted this in front of cameras in just the past few weeks. Even Der Hair Führer said it on the record. They're telling you why they won't allow it. You should listen.

Anyone want to take odds on a major spike in cases in Wisconsin starting in 7 days and escalating rapidly from there?

Pritzker and the Illinois Dems were idiots to let the Illinois primary go forward three weeks ago.  They were rightly raked over the coals for it.

The WI GOP's actions are flat-out criminal here.

2020-04-07 8:47:32 AM
The Republican party, who is committed to winning at all costs, knows that low turnout, plus the fact that their voters a more likely to ignore social distancing are doing whatever it takes to win. And so they will.

Repeat ad nauseum forever, because Democrats don't want to win. They want to compromise.

It's actually kind of difficult. Equipment is usually limited so workers are seated next to each other. There aren't usually enough workers to manage the lines outside. And the workers are often elderly, so at risk. In addition, many polling places are in nursing homes so the residents (who vote there as well as living there) are instantly potential disease vectors.

Also, other states have had huge problems with materials (like ballots) not being delivered as many civil servants are staying at home. As well as not having election monitors show up so none of the ballots could be certified.

Elections are actually kind of complicated. This is a blatant play to fark the process. That's why the Dems in Congress are pushing so hard for vote by mail...

I can see you've never had to deal with children. Yes, many people have to bring their kids with them to vote. Double that because schools are shutdown.

Oh and most polling stations in Wisconsin, that were not closed, are going to be in old building with confined hallways, and/or maybe a school gymnasium. Wisconsin also uses optical reader compatible paper ballots which means coloring in ovals on paper in little plastic booths that will be carriers for the virus even if they give EVERYONE their own pen. Plus one infected, but asymptomatic poll worker could infect hundreds (or thousands) of people checking ID.

So voting being done in person during this epidemic is highly irresponsible, and a possible disease vector of incalculable proportion.

Reading into it, they can't do that - if you already voted via post, and your ballot doesn't get counted because the rules around witnessing requirements changed after the fact, you can't vote in person.

So you've voted, but they can't count your vote.

It's the best catch there is.

When I voted in the Illinois primary, I was the only one there except the poll workers and the guy who likes to talk to everyone about anything.  I had to act like I was looking at my phone after I voted so he'd walk away and talk to someone else.  Nice guy.  Rats ate his toes in Vietnam, you know.

I wonder if people could go to social media and "announce" that they voted by mail now.  It may not make a difference because the election is effectively rigged, but it would at least expose the GOP's fraud for the whole world to see.

& will save your 2nd Amendment.

I don't think the Second Amendment is in any danger.

The Second Amendment is in the Federal Constitution and a State justice isn't empowered to do anything directly about that.

The Wisconsin State Constitution doesn't have enumerated "Amendments;" changes appear to go into Sections under Articles of the Constitution.

The Wisconsin "right to bear arms" is in Section 25, Article I.

Section 2 of Article I prohibits slavery. So, yay?

I would double check that I was not getting the WI election mixed up with some other one, but yes.

Pretty reprehensible that the rules can be changed after the fact.

The National Guard were sent to staff the polling stations to act as poll workers and to distribute hand sanitizer. They could have been used for much better purposes had the election been delayed.

My son in Wisconsin never received his mail-in ballot, so today if he wants to cast his votes it must be at the physical polling place. Our primary here in Illinois was a month ago, and at least we had the option of early voting to relieve lines and crowding.

There are 600,000 people in Milwaukee and 5 polling places. Good luck with that.

In late September 1918, at the Army training base Camp Grant in Illinois, the camp commandant, Colonel Hagadorn, ordered all men into overcrowded barracks, against Army standing orders and the advice of the camp physician.  Two weeks later, his staff informed him that so many men had died that the camp had run out of coffins.  He ordered the men to form up outside for an inspection, and thirty minutes later, the assembled group heard the report of Colonel Hagadorn's .44 caliber pistol that he had discharged into his own head.

I have my doubts that such honor exists among today's leaders.
