Confederate heritage?

A failed, white supremacist state, utterly dependent on black slaves for free labor and humans as property?

/What's there to celebrate?

Is this the same heritage where we burn the south to the ground?  Because I'm pretty sure that kill Corona virus.

It would be a shame if a lot of them got together for some sort of Confederate Heritage Hangout and a bunch of them ended up dying from COVID-19. Thoughts and prayers.

Huh. I had to look. When Nathan Deal was Governor of Georgia, he quietly renamed Robert E. Lee's Birthday (January 19) and "Confederate Memorial Day (usually the last Monday in April)" each as "State Holiday."

I frankly expected Kemp to go back to the old names, but nope, just looked. He kept the "new" names.

/Still not voting for him next time.

Reeves' proclamation says April is the month when, in 1861, "the American Civil War began between the Confederate and Union armies, reportedly the costliest and deadliest war ever fought on American soil."

LOL, reportedly? I dunno, the Bowling Green Massacre must have come close.

The corporate power brokers in Atlanta wouldn't let him, even if he wanted to.

They'll let R pols who run for statewide positions put on redneck blackface while campaigning to an extent, but not while governing.

Oh now. You know what they are really celebrating is the idea of owning people outright, rather than through debt and wage slavery. No amount of treasony stuff can take the shine off of that for them!

This.  I had a dispute with my step-son, a seriously mentally challenged idiot.  He threatened to kill me.  I left the wife (she supported him).

Jesus Crossing Christ. I'm a southerner and let me tell you a little secret few southerners seem to want to admit. Not only will the south not rise again but a metric crapton of us actively work against the idea.

Look, I get it. You've got furries, no problem with them (they actually seem nice), you've got LARPers.....little concerned about them. Some of the civil war re-enactors are maybe worrying but I repeat myself with the LARPers.

And that brings me to my main point. Heck the GOP chose the southern strategy. I vote D because they chose the wrong side in human history. There's more of us voting D than you think there are.

Ya know, if the main features of my heritage were treason, slavery, crushing defeat, and the most successful terrorist campaign in history leading directly to Jim Crow on the one hand, and on the other stereotypes of halfwit children of incest sitting on the back porch drooling and playing banjo... I'd celebrate the banjo players first.

We aren't doing that because fictional concepts of free speech pushed in schools have turned freedom of speech into a yang worship concept instead of something that is actually understood/explained.

So you have a solid 60% of this country who don't understand how slippery slopes work insisting that ANY limitation placed on speech automatically eliminate the whole thing, and that the only country that does it right is 'murica.

We are a country of farking morons.

In one bit of good news, the yearly white supremacist convention at Montgomery Bell Park here in TN was cancelled due to Covid worries. As much as I love going out and harassing them for a couple days a year, they seem to have made the right call.

Damn shame they can't all get together right about now.

It was a hot summer day when my friends and I were on our way to Florida for spring break. We were going down the Georgia highway going far above the speed limit. It was only a matter of time before the Georgia state highway patrol caught us and pulled us over. An enormous guy in a uniform with big aviator sunglasses saunters casually up to the side of the car and motions to roll the window down. The driver acquiesced and smiled pleasantly at the statie, "Is there a problem, officer?" The officer licked his teeth and in a thick southern drawl said, "Son, ain't nobody comes through Georgia that damn fast." The driver just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Well, General Sherman did."

Because the Allies spent an entire generation occupying Germany and rooting out every possible remnant of Nazification in their cultural institutions.  We did no such thing during Reconstruction; instead, everyone decided to "clasp hands across the bloody chasm" and let the Lost Cause bullshiat fester.

Yep. The CSA Constitution acutally took "rights" (powers, really ― states don't have rights and never did) away from their states that the USA Constitution permitted (and still permits).

It does have one good idea that I wouldn't mind seeing made into a Constitutional Amendment. While the CSA Constitution also gives their President a Line-Item Veto, this would make that redundant: it requires that Congressional bills may only be about one subject, which must be clearly and non-deceptively stated in the title. No attaching unrelated poison-pill "riders" to must-pass legislation. There would be no line items to veto.
