Interesting.  The poorer states are going to get left out of the bidding.  That is mostly red states.

States Rights, y'all!  Now, ya know what you gotta do.  You gotta send in that $1200 check you're gonna eventually get and send it to the state capital.  Don't know your state capital?  Send it to me and I'll forward it.  The states have an excellent record of money management and they'll use that money to outbid the other states to buy up medical equipment.  Who knows?  Maybe we'll buy uip more than we need and can sell the surplus to other states for a nice mark up.  Why, you might even get a dividend from that $1200 investment.

This will probably cause many poor state residents to drive hundreds of miles to seek medical help in a well connected richer state.

"We're a backup, we're not an ordering clerk, we're a backup, and we've done an unbelievable job," Mr. Trump said.

Well, once again he accidentally told the truth again. It is unbelievable how bad he is at this crisis management. And that is a statement I freely make after watching him attempt to president for the last 3 years. Seriously, I can't believe how bad he actually is when it all matters.

And then Republicans will blame those greedy blue states for the catastrophes in red states and the media will fuel the bullshiat via equivalency and we'll have learned nothing.

Yay America.

Just a thought: Wouldn't it be nice if we had a federal government that had the authority and resources to handle issues pertaining to interactions between states, rather than a weak one that left states sovereign and made them compete with one another? It's really a shame that we never updated the 1781 Articles of Confederation to make this happen.

Just before the briefing, the White House announced that the president again tested negative for COVID-19. The president said he took the test out of curiosity. Mr. Trump also tested negative for the disease in March.

So they aren't just hoarding supplies, they are using them up just for fun.

If states didnt have to outbid the Federal government Cheeto would almost make sense.
Well, even then it makes no sense.

Like Reagan said and Republicans have made it true, the most terrifying eight words," I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
But now the dont even say that.

I heard California has ventilators.  Don't tell anyone though.  This doesn't need to get out, you know?  A friend of my brother's sister in law's cousin said they had ventilators stacked three deep  in the hallway.  They are looking for people to hook them up to.

Now don't ell anyone else.  My brother's sister in law's cousin could lose their job if this got out and they were found to be the ones leaking this info.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I was unloading iPhones at the airport and they got in an extra case of them and they told me to sell them out of the back of my Kia over by the airport motel.  They're the new folding kind with iSymbiot technology.  Once you make friends with your new iPhone if is psychically linked to you.

That's OK. They know no Democrat hoax can harm them. In any case they'll need that bidding money for when Pence and the pope team up to sell healing prayers and indulgences. Stupid lib states will already have blown their cash on useless fripperies like vents and masks. Oh, and also that's probably why trump is outbidding everyone. So he can give it to the poor red states and shore up the base.

No they won't.

They'll get ventilators from Trump because their governors will bend the knee out of desperation and then continue to vote Republican because Trump helped them.

This is a serious proposition to Pelosi.  Give Trump and Pence immunity if they resign.

Normally, I would only be satisfied if they were executed for this treason, but there are so many lives that would be saved if we had a competent person as President.

Mr. Trump said states "should have been building their stockpiles," adding that the federal government is a "backup."

Then back them the fark up... JFC just STFU and get out of the way.  you're treating states like private contractors bidding a public project.

for all you nitwits who wanted 'govt run like a business', well this is yet another side effect of that mentality.

fark this timeline...

I'd like to say that the red states will suffer for this, but you know that if Florida is hit by a hurricane this summer, their governor will claim he had no idea hurricanes could hit during a pandemic, and they'll get whatever they need, even if it means sending the army to seize supplies from CA and NY.

Sorry m'lord, but France isn't going to come over to help pick up the pieces when the states bite off more than they can chew. Should have learned that lesson after 1812.

I'll bet it disproportionately kills Trump's supporters.    My elderly Trumpster neighbor literally believes this is all an anti-Trump and anti-America hoax.  He goes out to the market everyday while taking zero precautions.  Religious fanatics, (it's spreading like wildfire through the Hasidic community in the NYC area), conspiracy theorists, know-nothing populist righ-wingers, anti-vaxxers, they are all gonna get more than their share.
