We just have to accept that the Republicans have put us into an analogous situation to the Soviet Union.

Every fact, every piece of science, every piece of writing, every observation is passed through the filter of their desired economic policy.  For the Soviets, it was their version of communism.  For the Republicans, it's their twisted and pathologic version of libertarianism.

Whatever points directly to the triumph of the chosen system is accepted, and its creator is promoted and applauded, and brought into, or at least closer to the leadership.  Whatever doesn't point directly to the triumph is minimized, rejected, ignored, or simply changed, and its creator mocked and turned into an un-person.

As an immunocompromised cancer survivor, Trahan said he's familiar with commonsense social-distancing practices. But as a conservative, he's become convinced that many Democrats are so invested in the idea that the virus will be disastrous that they're pushing for prolonged, unnecessary shutdowns in pursuit of vindication.

No shiathead.  They're acting sensibly and following what doctors, scientists, the W.H.O., and a myriad of other experts have said and that is beyond what you personally *feel* is necessary so you are going to decide what they are actually doing - vindication.

Instead of admitting you were blatantly wrong for following Trump and Fox News and other right-wing media on this thing, thus actually learning something, you're going to ignore that fact and find some other way to blame or focus on those "nutty" Democrats.

FTA: Frost felt conflicted. He wanted to encourage the men, some of whom he'd known for years, to be more careful. "I care about their well-being," he told me. "But it's a tough call, just personally, because it's become a political thing."

It's kind of funny that the social darwinists are the most likely to get themselves and those they care about killed. Well it would be funny if we weren't chained to our seats while this death cult drives the car off a cliff.

I just hope that the collateral damage of their actions doesn't impact the innocent.  With as rapid as this is spreading, it seems a foregone conclusion that they will be impacted.  That denier church in South Korea got buttfarked by coronavirus

Basically, every story about Republicans boils down to two words: They're stupid.

No other explanation necessary. They're stupid. Just work from that assumption.

I'd say let them die but, they will just clog up the hospitals and kill a lot of worthwhile people.

Can't wait for the surviorship bias that's going to come out from all of this.

"Me and all my friends went to spring break and nobody died"

"Went to church and the entire congregation was there, and nobody died. Had the liberals described it God would have killed us all where we stood."

"My whole family ate at Panda Express and nobody died".

"Liberals tried to destroy my stock portfolio but luckily I got my money out before they did".

etc.

It's almost as though profiting from the death of hundreds of thousands is some type of Republican thing.

Well one of the biggest problems of political/sociological ideology is testing time.

more or less in the normal world how well an ideology works out or not, can takes dozens if not hundreds of years to pan out.
It makes it easy to keep saying:
our ideology WILL work out, you just HAVE to keep at it a long time  and trust it will work out, like trust that long  afters you suffered from it and died from it, thigns are working out.

Now we can have an ideological real world test that shows how it works out in just a matter of weeks.

We have our experiment and Florida will be the standout case that will be studied for a decade.

21.3 million people, large population of elderly, failure to take public health warnings seriously, death rate of 0.5% = more than 1 million people.

You know what really gets them? Expressing no sympathy for the possibility of Republicans dying.

Other people dying, they couldn't give less of a shiat about. But when you make it clear you don't give a fark if THEY die, for some reason, they lose their shiat.

THEIR assholishness is OK, you see, because it's a "belief." But the moment it's used against them, all of a sudden, they get all mad and righteous. Which is farking hilarious.

"Why, how dare you not feel bad at the possibility of people I like dying? I mean, the Chinese or the ghetto dwellers, they're subhuman, but I'm an actual person! Where is your decency, liberal scum?"

Their whinging is tiresome. It should be addressed (or ignored, preferably) accordingly.

Correct.

The Republican Party, once anti-communist has become so....so...Soviet, it is both bizarre and unconscionable.

Another politicizing trend I've noticed is the flat out denial, like a recent news anchor that died from the covid-19 virus, the right wingers all say, well, it was because she had other underlying health issues, like they just don't want to believe this thing can kill you.

Ummm

10% of 21.3 million is 2.13 million. 1% Would be 213,000 people, which is still an absurd amount. Not saying its ok, just saying watch your decimal point.

/2% is still approaching half a million which is nuts

The biggest thing to remember is that once all the right wingers grannies all die, they're going to then blame democrats for the gina virus, and not the human garbage that's farked everything up for personal gain since day farking 1.

So be ready for the fact that the typhoid trumpkins that are going around spreading their orange plague all over America are then going to turn around and claim they took it seriously all along and then blame the mexicans, black people, asians, etc, because these are people that don't self reflect. It will never occur to them that they themselves are the worst of all people. So it's up to us to remind them of these facts. Daily.

Yup, it will be "this is the Dems fault for not building Trump's wall fast enough. If we had just kept all the dirty foreigners out we would never have been infected" pointing out that Americans also travel home from abroad won't mean anything to them.

Well, we'll find out pretty soon if they're right. Much like with anything else, I expect conservatives to yell louder than anyone else about why they weren't warned or stopped when they or their family starts to die.

And the rest of us will be shaking our heads at a comfortable distance away.

2020-03-30 2:44:20 PM
This is why it doesn't matter what Trump says going forward.  He talked enough shiat at the outset that his followers are already convinced that it's all a liberal hoax.  So the rest of us are farked in keeping it contained.

This is why, as much as we'd all like to avoid Trump, what he says does matter.  Too many people take his words as gospel.

This sh*t is going to be a fast-action take on what we've been telling these f*ckwads about climate change, namely: stop listening to superstitious morons, snake oil salesmen, and comforting lies over research, facts, science, and objective reality, or there will be disastrous consequences. Now, instead of the catastrophe taking another decade to fully play out, we'll be able to see the full extent of their lunacy in a matter of weeks. What remains to be seen is whether they will learn anything from this. My prediction is that they won't, so the best I can hope for is that enough of the regressive population dies off to make them completely irrelevant as a political power in this country forever, and that the rest of the population gets angry enough about being f*cked over by these sh*theads AGAIN that the survivors are shunned until they eventually die.

There's just one problem, all the other people they infect in their wake. It's not like they'll sequester themselves and die alone at home. They'll potentially infect everyone they come into contact with, at a minimum, their  family and the care givers at the hospital at when they're admitted.

Conservative policy is largely/completely reactionary.  They will not begin to solve a problem until they see it and have to react.  It does not focus on evidence something will be a future problem, choosing instead to focus on existing problems, regardless of potential catastrophe of future risk.

So when a virus comes along that can infect others a full week before symptom onset, conservative policy cannot conceive of a solution that isn't already too late.  Their entire philosophy will not allow them to treat it with the proper level of severity.

On the flip side of this, if you see a conservative in politics that appears to be something to mitigate future risk, you can always count on there being some form of personal profit in doing so.

The only major counterpoint I have seen to this argument is the doomsday-prepper groups, though one could argue their complete and utter worship of the 2nd amendment is evidence to that they are merely stuck forever reacting to the American Revolution and Civil War.
