No we need a law that holds law abiding citizens liable for negligent transfer or storage and some of this will stop.

It's a misdemeanor in Chicago.    Nearly every Chicago gun law violation results in an I-bond (no money), electronic ankle monitoring until court, and ultimately... probation.  Which equates to a misdemeanor.

"Toughest gun laws in the United States!! Hurrrr!!! Hurrr!"

No, not the toughest, but there are still plenty of gun control laws in Illinois and Chicago....

https://www.sinai.org/sites/default/files/SUHI%20Policy%20Brief_19-01_Gun%20Policies_8-19-19_Final.pdf

The U.S. and the city of Chicago continue to face an epidemic of gun violence and death. The case of Illinois suggests that having individual states with relatively strong laws regulating firearms is not a comprehensive approach for reducing morbidity and mortality related to firearms. Expert researchers, community leaders, and policy makers have suggested the gun violence epidemic in the U.S. requires a multidisciplinary and multifaceted approach. Solutions must be both data- and community- driven.

There is nothing unusual about Chicago or Illinois gun laws.  And as shown above Chicago gun violence isn't the worst. And yet you think you proved both are true. Hilarious.

Probably. My sister's letter carrier (not in Chicago) was dragged into a vacant house and raped at gunpoint. The local post office wouldn't change her route so she still has to deliver mail in the same neighborhood. Word is that other letter carriers voluntarily deliver for her on the few blocks where it happened so she doesn't have to constantly revisit "that house."

*sigh*  I didn't say anything about race.  I didn't even imply it.  The article doesn't even say anything about race.

It's not racist to point out that a poverty stricken neighbourhood like the SW side of Chicago is highly likely to have single parent households.  About 80% if you believe the statistics.  My observation also applies in Appalachia and Albuquerque among others.

What's interesting is that you immediately jumped there though.

Maybe Chiraq should pass some new laws making shooting people illegal.

Or the mayor could ask all the criminals to not shoot people this week, so the hospital beds would be freed up for the chinese flu victims.

People always make that point on the gun threads, ignoring the cause-effect relationship. That there aren't shootings because of the gun bans but gun bans because of all the shootings. (Grew up in Chicago, in a once good neighborhood as it went bad, a total ghetto today. Saw a lot of mess but didn't get shot there. The people I've known to have trouble with guns did it far from Chicago and through their own behavior with their own guns.)
