Evolution in action.

2020-03-26 5:21:55 AM
Let us all pray that we can get about a billion COVID-19 tests real soon, then this all can be brought under control.  Of course, this is along with filling the hospitals with ventilators, ICU beds, face masks, and whatever else is needed to manage future outbreaks.  Then we can all come out of hibernation.

When we do all this, we don't really need to pray to an imaginary being.

"creating a space where students can come and be stupid."

Someone should Photoshop that onto the Liberty University crest.

Or if it, you know, mystically appeared on their website.

If they thought Falwell was clueless they woudn't be stupid enough to go to his pretend college so that he can pay for his pool boys.

Corona is gonna tear through that campus like Falwell at a Miami gay disco

Jerry Falwell Jr. knows what he's doing. I'm thinking it's the people who're regularly paying him money that should get a clue.

2020-03-26 9:25:22 AM
They'll fail everybody that doesn't attend and then charge them again next year for the same classes. They WILL profit from this.

2020-03-26 9:26:03 AM
The students have to come back, otherwise the accounting irregularity will be discovered on the LU books and Falwell could be indicted.

2020-03-26 9:26:29 AM
What does the pool boy think of this?

2020-03-26 9:26:30 AM
News Flash he won't.  If he did that he would probably have to give out refunds and that money is long gone spent on pool boys. If you'r a student there just don't go back you tuition for this semester is gone and you got scammed by a religious snake oil salesman.

Let them return and quarantine them all there with no one allowed to leave. Health crews can come in weekly and collect the bodies.

"I think we have a responsibility to our students-who paid to be here, who want to be here, who love it here-to give them the ability to be with their friends, to continue their studies, enjoy the room and board they've already paid for and to not interrupt their college life."

There it is. Right there. Translation: "If I keep the place open, nobody can demand a refund!"

Die for Trump.

Richards speculated that Falwell might be like her grandfather, a "chain email kind of guy" who views the virus as an overhyped conspiracy.

And yet this was where she chose to spend her tuition money.

If he shutters the dorms, he'd have to give them their money back.  If they stay away on their own, he does not.  Never rule out greed.

Or mono at a high-school kegger.  The civil suits will be glorious, and hopefully enough to put Falwell out of a job.

They're creating a space where students can come and be stupid," said Best, the Student Government Association chief of staff. "There's a general carelessness, and our leadership isn't doing what they could be to stop that from spreading."

Calum.  Here's a hint: be that leadership.  You are in a position to make a difference on campus.  You even have the perfect last name to make snappy slogans about it.

2020-03-26 9:36:43 AM
This isn't about ideology or stgginit to the Libs or ny other political consideration.   This is a simple financial decision on Jerry's part: if the dorms are technically open, even if most kids won't come back, then he is under no obligation to refund room and board fees as other local colleges did.   LU's campus is basically a sham anyway.  only 5,000 of Liberty's 60,000 students actually live on campus, the rest are online students, mostly ones going for a divinity degree...and the physical campus (which actually has some well regarded degree programs like their nursing degree) makes it look less like a diploma mill

Of course the Santorum is flowing like the bloody Nile there.....

I wonder
Open campus to the students who have parents willing to send them to Liberty University
Students return home to parents who willing pay money to Liberty University at Easter or the end of the semester
Parents and grandparents of students at LU might have already remembered LU in their wills.

2020-03-26 9:40:31 AM
They moved classes online, they just left the dorms open. The kids certainly can go home and do their classes from there. I see no one is blaming the parents who aren't sending their kids home.

accredited and NCAA DIV-1 In sports.  it's a very real university.....but it's also a front.  They actually have a beautiful campus and lots of athletic facilities, but its all for show.  The "real' college gives their degrees credibility, but the bulk of LU students are online only , mostly divinity students who pay huge amounts for what amounts to a diploma-mill degree, but one that gets extra heft because LU is a "real" school

I know how LU's business is run. No amount of accreditation would make me consider LU a real school. As far as I'm concerned, my associates in art history from community college is worth more than anything from LU.

Non-alcoholic beer is probably a sin to them

I was once told that saying shoot was a sin when used in place of shiat and darn in place of damn. If I remember correctly they had no problem with heck because hell was referred to quite often.

I was also told saying you love ice cream was a sin, you should only love God and other people.

Exactly right. Legitimate universities are returning dormitory and dining fees, and expending huge sums of money because of the crisis. Ultimately for many colleges the costs will run into the tens of millions of dollars. At the university where I work, in addition to returning fees, we are continuing to pay workers even if deemed nonessential who can't work at home, including contract laborers paid by other firms; paying essential workers exposed to greater risks (custodial staff in a few still-open dorms) a premium; paying for the infrastructure for remote learning; paying incentives to students to get them back home and out of high-density dormitory-style housing, etc. We are paying research assistants even if they can't do research and will ultimately have to eat those costs. The amount of though and effort to make all this happen has been incredible, and no doubt greatly reduced the number of students infected. If we had delayed even a week, the virus would have run through the campus like a wildfire.

In other words, my secular university chose to do the Christian thing, whereas Liberty University is putting profits before its students.

/What would Jesus do?

I had a guy from Liberty apply to a job we had available

He has a Ph.D. from Liberty

It was an entry level AV tech job

Bonus: He reapplied 18 months later when the guy we hired left for school.
