New York hospital admission rates for Covid-19 decreasing

So people are just saying, "Fark it, I'll die at home"?

2020-03-25 4:13:28 PM
What if the hospitals are simply too full to admit those in need of treatment, or too busy dealing with the sick to worry about bean counting?

The headline is misleading. Admission rates are still increasing. The rate of increase is decreasing.

Trump to use this as proof that churches should be packed at Easter to celebrate his victory over the virus in 3...2...1...

That's my guess.

the density control plan could be working.

Dunno, DeBlasio is still mighty dense. Any denser and he'll collapse into a singularity of incompetence.

Or they're testing fewer people, therefore they don't have the CV.

Over by Easter, just like Trump said!

Don't mean this as a slam on NYC, but it being as it is there's going to be dead bodies tucked away all over.

Not impossible, but not likely, unless they're unable to actually get to the hospitals. Then again, that may have been true from the beginning.

Most likely is that transmission is slowing because of increased isolation. You know, exactly how we expected it to work!

But I won't deny that this could be a transient effect or something leading to basically a counting error.

I'd love to see clarification. They said "COVID-19 admissions" but surely they're not leaving people sitting on the stoop sick while the test is run? But if overall admissions is dropping, that's a sign that they're getting control.

Next few days will tell.

Now we need to keep this going for two weeks for all the asshats who traveled over Spring Break.

What's the homeless body count? The people that don't get to a doctor evar.
Is anyone paying attention to them? Any resources? They're obviously sheltering in place.

In 1972, Nixon campaigned on the fact that the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing. Since inflation is itself the rate of increase, that means he was saying "Vote for me, I'm making prices rise faster slower."

He won 49 states, presumably thanks to Americans' deep understanding of derivatives.

Ohio has gone from doubling every 2 days to doubling every 3 for both new cases and deaths, haven't been charting hospitalizations. My SIL who works in post ICU treatment isn't completely overwhelmed yet, so that's a good sign.

It's odd that Trump may be actually hurting him self. But I guess him and corporate concerns have never been able to look past the books.

Yeah, Danielle didn't quite get the concept. At this rate the hospitals will be full in ten days instead of 6. Great news!

That's a great question!  If only we had some way to test everyone quickly and efficiently to see if they actually have the disease so we could understand how many people have it and how quickly it's spreading.  If only such a thing existed.  Surely no one in the world has thought of this before and is working in this way.  I mean if there were, we'd need some sort of group, a team, if you will, that was specifically trained to work with other countries and groups to solve this.  But this is all crazy talk.

WE HAVE TO THINK!!  WHAT THING WOULD EXIST TO FIGURE THIS OUT??

Yeah but trends are just that trends. If is continues then it will make a significant difference. Plus Cuomo has played this one pretty straight so I am not just going to discount what he says.

This is Cuomo, not Trump so you don't need to be completely negative. I do think this is the case.

What's most mind blowing to me is that I am usually as pessimistic as you can get, yet most of Fark, and the Internet at large, has blown past me so far in pessimism that I look like the optimist.

The number of cases in NY jumped 20 percent since Tuesday and is doubling every three days.

Yes, but it jumped 23% from Monday to Tuesday, and 38% from Sunday to Monday.

I think there's some hope that, while we're not seeing the beginning of the end, we are at least seeing the end of the beginning.

I remember his wage/price controls. The media made a hero out of some kid who ratted on Testor paints for raising prices. It was a fun era if you like ill-conceived, ineffective, authoritarian rules. Then along comes Gerald Ford with his WIN (Whip Inflation Now) buttons. Sigh.

It's interesting that people canonize and obey their parents to the letter but loathe the likes of Nixon. Odd.

Lots of people had stopped sending their kids in to school before the official cancellation. I think the Friday before had to be close to 50% attendance.

Well, New York City banned dining in restaurants, and shut down its schools and libraries completely, on March 15th. That's good for shutting down a huge chunk of social activity. And that was 10 days ago.
