Just saying as a former news guy, "held a meeting" is the the worst lede ever (and yes, lede is the proper word).

Better: The guy said stay at home, he said in a meeting with others.

On Sunday, there were 179 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Davidson County in total, with 151 cases still active. Twenty-seven people who had the new coronavirus have recovered.

One man has died from complications due to the new coronavirus and two others are being treated in the hospital.

The remaining 149 cases are self-isolating at home with mild and manageable symptoms.

Can we stop with the 'turn off the alarm clock' thing?  In all of these orders, there are still are a lot of people who have to show up at a place of business, and a lot of others who are working from home.

Everyone considered him, the vector of the county,
He never stopped coughing, a single time, to prove the county wrong.
His mama named him Tommy, the folks just called him contagious,
But something always told me they were reading his temperature wrong.

True, but those of us working at home no longer have to wake up early to commute.

Most people who get this experience a mild cold.  That's one of the reasons it can spread so effectively - besides a long incubation period, most people who get it don't realize they got it at all, making them merry little disease vectors.  Most of the rest will have something close to a flu or pneumonia.  Those will definitely need hospital care, but won't necessarily need a ventilator.  Only the worst cases need a ventilator.  Sending everyone who is positive to have a tube stuck down their throat (1) will quickly run out of ventilators and hospital beds, and (2) be completely and utterly useless for most of them.  This isn't the plague, where everyone who gets it will be flat on their back regardless of ultimate survival.  People need to be treated for the symptoms they actually experience, and not as if every single one will turn into purple goo if they are not in an iron lung for the next 17 years.  "Go home, stay there, and we will send someone around to bring you food and check your vitals, contact us if it gets worse" both treats the problem and frees up beds for the ones who are actually properly farked.

One thing I took from this.

We need a name for this specific order that is standard across every State during a National emergency... Each elected official is giving the same order but giving it  a different name. It needs to be uniform during a National emergency.

California orders Shelter In Place
New Jersey orders Stay At Home
Nashville orders Safer At Home

This doesn't work during a National emergency as it completely sends mixed messages.

Pretty soon, some  State is going to get fed up and call theirs "Stay the Fark at Home" order.

While likely a joke, this is a good post to point out that while you're at home, you should keep as close to the same routine as possible. Get up at the same time, go through your hygiene routines, if you're out of work choose some activity that's semi-productive or educational, and break at similar times and for similar duration to work.

People are creatures of habit, and it's all too easy to get into bad ones very quickly, and it can make integration back into social activities - including work - very difficult if you've developed incompatible habits.

/Speaking from experience
//YMMV, of course

Also, normally busy freeways can force you to drive slowly. Empty ones make speeding a whole lot easier, even if done inadvertently. Drivers also might be less concerned about traffic signals, and all it takes is someone blowing through a red light, rolling through a stop sign, not checking blind spots, etc. to ruin your day.

Or you could have a functional national response that would homogenize both the response and the verbiage to highlight the severity of the situation and maximize voluntary compliance.

If only.

Excellent reason for audio-only. Or, as we used to call them: conference calls.
