In a sane country, he'd never have been president to begin with.

Yet, here we are.

Well, I guess Obama wasn't able to accomplish that. So congratulations, Donald.

If he thinks he'll lose, I'm still thinking he resigns to get Pence to pardon him.

He is just glad crowds aren't allowed.

But as soon as they are, Donny...

Well he's basically allowed a bomb to be dropped on millions of people too, but this time it was his own people.

I just hope if this virus goes away in a few months people don't forget how badly he cocked it up. People have the memory of a goldfish.

IIRC, Pence can't pardon him for state crimes which is where Donnie's liability remains.  And technically, he hasn't been charged with anything at the Federal level to be pardoned for.

Yes, but no other president has ever had to follow Obama, who not only left the country more divided along racial and partisan lines than at any point before the Civil War (a war, it must be pointed out, that was ultimately resolved by our greatest president, Abraham Lincoln, a Republican), but who also deliberately set in motion the long-term plan that would see, even as Trump took office, the safety systems that would help fight off a pandemic either become undermined entirely or mired in so much red tape so as to become unusable. We may never know how Obama planted the ticking timebomb of COVID-19 in Wuhan (and you have to admire the deviousness of setting the Chinese up as an escape goat to undue all the tremendous work Trump accomplished previously in signing the greatest trade deals and partnerships with them), but having the virus erupt mere months before the election, wiping out the Trump stock market gains in one fell swoop? That may go down in history as the world's greatest political coo.

Past election stats and history matter not one bit today. Trump is unlike any president we've had and trying to make predictions on elections from past performances is a fool's errand this time around.

The Federal charges are in limbo until Donnie is no longer president. Some old marine thought these problems through and came up with that solution. Cause sometimes you can't kill your tango today, so you plan on when, where, how, and how much. So the evidence is preserved and the caveats all crossed and dotted.

Nixon was never charged with anything. Bush Sr pardoned people who had not been indicted for Iran Contra.

"It would be easy to dismiss Biden's advantage as meaningless."

You're right random CNN op Ed contributor, it would be easy to do that, probably because it is totally meaningless.

/do tell, what did the polling look like for Hillary at this point? Perhaps she was polling ahead of President Trump back then too?

I suspect the "blame" for this goes along existing lines: Trumpers will blame "foriners," the media, and Hunter Biden, while the sane will see all of Trump's failures (of which there still yet many to come) and see through the lies (ditto).

I think if the economy is in recession, he's probably toast. The wildcard is, how bad do things get.

Maybe, but Don the Con continues to poll around 41%.  With a 14% death rate for the over 80 crowd, the Grand OLD Party just might get a kick in the head.

At times of crisis, people rally around the flag.  Fivethirtyeight shows that after an initial dip, Trump's approval rate is inching back up.

After the crisis is over, people give credit to whoever they thought was in charge.   Dems will give Nancy and governors credit, but many willl give Trump credit.

Come election time, Trump could have his first positive approval rating.

I don't even pay attention to national polling numbers anymore. All Trump needs are the usual states to come through in the end. North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida. Hell, even without Pennsylvania, Trump still wins. Biden has quite the uphill battle.
