I spent today driving 10 hours round trip to upstate NY.  I had to move my daughter out of her dorm because they cancelled the rest of school.

There was a lot more in her dorm than she realized.  That was fun.

Now I'm sitting here watching the news because the movie Battleship is over and I haven't changed the channel yet.

You can see more on my "COVID-19 blog".

Dewey Fidalgo: I'm thinking of digging out my sewing machine...got the "pattern" online and have some appropriate fabric and some elastic already on hand to make some masks for the medical community.   I gave up my office/sewing room for my granddaughter when she moved in.   She has physically left the building, but a lot of her stuff is still here.  So I'll have to dig out the fabric from storage downstairs and launder it, then find a place to set up the machine.

All that will take longer than the actual sewing.

Though tonight I just want to relax.  Took care of all outside business today, hopefully for a week at least.

That's awesome!

Edibles are made for a reason. Plus simply making the butter is oddly calming.

I dont like edibles, they just give me headaches.  I stocked up on bud, but then my allergies kicked in.  So it waits for me, calling my name...smelling soooo good.

Been there, done that. Moving on short notice is the definition of suck.

Had to move a sibling out of his apartment at the last minute. He too underestimated his pile of stuff. He thought a van would be big enough to move everything. I went ahead and rented a box truck.

Working.  Slowly.  Kid dentist who checked out my abscessed tooth had never heard of Toradol, offered Tylenol #3 instead.  Can't fault her for not prescribing something she wasn't familiar with, and a slight buzz is better than the pain, but it's still frustrating.  At least It's dealt with before the shiat really hits the fan.  This is the kind of job security I could really do without.

also, made a big ol' pot of cream of potato and bacon soup a couple days ago, and i'll be sad when i run out =(  but, at least at the store i go to, the deli is still mostly intact, as is the produce dept.  about the only bread i've been able to reliably find is pita bread, and that's been mostly ignored.  but, jokes on everyone else.  i happen to like pita bread, and for what i need bread for (mostly sandwiches), pita bread works just fine.

Yep.  The black-box warning is impressive.  But as a quick way to knock down both inflammation and pain before switching to a safer long-term alternative, it's a wonder drug.  And right now, that's what I need more than straight pain relief.  As long as the amoxicillin works, though, I should be back up to speed in a day or two.

I've mostly taken it easy today and split my time between watching Community and playing video games. I will probably ride out the night with some Resident Evil 7. At least there I can actually shoot a virus. Spent a little bit of time today looking at the possibility of either putting my two photo ebooks on Kindle Unlimited or maybe combining them into a deluxe edition and putting that on there. I'm not really sure what Amazon's policy is on that since you get paid per page read that way and pictures take a lot less time to flip through than text, but also have a much larger file size. Will probably spend the weekend looking into that and then maybe start putting something together next week if it's an option.

Edibles, Baby.

No.  I dont like them.

Unfortunately, they don't work at all on me. I bought a pack of gummies and tried just one, being very careful because they'd told me about the delayed effect. I waited and waited and nothing.

Next time, I ate two, then three, then the entire package. Nothing.

So, it's flower for me. Heading out tomorrow for curb-side service at my dispensary. I need my nerve pain meds.

The petting zoo is closed  but the barn is open  and I can see a cow and two  horses. No goats in sight. No llamas, either. They must be in the  barn

I finally got some bananas (after four unsuccessful attempts last weekend)
Yay. Still no potatoes.

THC and other goodies in cannabis are only fat soluble. You have to cook the pot in some kind of fat, usually butter, to get the good stuff to release, then use the butter to make something like brownies. You can put pot in hot water and make some kind of yucky flavored water, but it won't have any effects.

Hint: if you were having a stroke in my town and called 911, I'd be taking you to the hospital.

I'm pretty good at finishing a piece, as in, finishing the stitching. As for putting it into a frame or making it into something, ugh. Takes me forever to get around to it. I did learn to lace and frame, though, so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg to have someone else do it.

Brosephus: I'm at home getting messages from coworkers about the people who are out sick or are believed to already have tested positive for CoVID-19.  At the same time, I'm reading about the Peace Corps basically being dismantled and the motherfarkers were getting intelligence reports in January about how bad this shiat was going to be.

If it wasn't for the Xyzal that I've been taking for 2 weeks to keep my allergies at bay and avoid looking/sounding sick at work, I would probably be suffering alcohol poisoning right now.

I've had weed tea, about the same effect as a small glass of wine.  Sachet of leaves, needed steeping for about 5 minutes.

I think if it was prepared like Japanese matcha tea, where the plant matter is powdered, you'd get more of an effect, because you ingest the whole thing.

After 3 years of making our daughter's liver medicine compound, without warning and with 1 day's supply left, our Walgreens said they aren't a compounding pharmacy. Claim it was always the policy. My wife has been arguing with them for a day and a half and they claim it will be ready in the morning. I am skeptical. This is not going to be a fun rest of my life.

My wife and I are going through Thrifting Withdrawal.  So I took a shopping tour through Repo Man instead as I drank.  I didn't want to do the obvious, Jeffersons, Bewitched, Dick van Dyke, etc.  It was kind of depressing to see how little LA has changed in 35 years.

That at 6 x 7.4 abv beers might let me sleep tonight.

Tomorrow night I'll probably continue an Alex Cox marathon and go with Sid & Nancy or Straight to Hell.  I have Repo Chick, but never bothered watching it.  Probably should do that too at some point.

no shirt no shoes: Just took my chocolate cheesecake out of the water bath.  I'll ganache it tomorrow morning.
[Fark user image 425x566]

Mmmmmm. That looks good.

My specialty is key lime cheesecake. I like dense and creamy cheesecake, not fluffy and airy, but I live at 7,000 feet. It took a lot of trial and error to learn how to make a dense cheesecake at altitude. I use the paddle on the Kitchen-Aid to cream the sugar and cream cheese, but I have to break up the eggs and mix them very carefully with a fork. Then I fold the eggs and the lime juice very carefully so I don't get any bubbles in the mix. A small bubble in the bottom of the pan turns into a huge bubble or San Andreas Faultlines when they get to the surface. It's also a drier climate here, so I don't bother with a bain marie and trying to line the spring pan with foil because it ALWAYS leaks. I put 4 roasting pans full of hot water on the bottom rack in the oven to keep it moist.

If this sounds like a lot of anal-retentive steps to get a good cheesecake, it is. I don't know anybody else up here who can make one that doesn't develop crevasses and bubbles and is still nice and creamy. I've never tried a chocolate cheesecake, and I've never done a ganache. You've inspired me to expand my repertoire.
