The library is closed to patrons, but the staff has to work.

My staff is not at all pleased.

We're trying to protect our older retired relatives who watch our kids when they're out of school. So we're planning on staying home with our kids ourselves and juggling the work time and vacation time. If we can keep them all safe, it'll all be worth it to us.

I just started a new position and I'll probably be ruled as essential (State Government work). I can see most hearings being canceled but we cannot just close for an extended period.

2020-03-15 12:27:56 PM
I already work from home two days a week, so that's been extended to five days a week until further notice.

2020-03-15 12:28:01 PM
I work at a data centre, and the company doesn't give two squirts of piss about the employees, so yes I am going to work tomorrow.

2020-03-15 12:28:19 PM
We *should* be allowing those who are already setup to work from home, to do so.  Limiting exposure is what we should be focusing on.  It would at least help limit spread.

Are we?

NO.

Why?

That is unknown to me.

I've been working from my home office for over a decade, so it's biz as usual for me.

Most of my customers are scaling back their in-office staff but aren't planning any major reductions in work efforts, so it'll be just another work day for me.

2020-03-15 12:28:32 PM
I'm a bartender. I'm staying away from work as long as I can. My husband works in IT in the Wall St. area, but he needs to be physically at the office, which is still definitely still open. He's in the process of getting his co-workers' computers ready to work from home. He has high blood pressure and has taken meds for it for a long time. I worry about him.

2020-03-15 12:32:21 PM
I had a vacation scheduled this week so I don't have go to work.

But now I can't go on the vacation planned. So I'm waiting for the inevitable phonecall telling me to come to work

This.

Where I work, they are treating this seriously and really doing the right thing by employees including:

Allowing work-from-home for everyone unless it's absolutely necessary to come in.

Waving any expense-report issues with last minute cancellations.

Up to two weeks paid leave for dealing with children when schools get closed - without having to use PTO.

Most employees can work from home. You can even borrow equipment (monitors, mice, etc.) from the office to use at home.

We're offering a bunch of free hours to help customers spin up our collaboration platform to facilitate telecommuting.

2020-03-15 12:35:02 PM
I wish. I work at a bank and interact with so many people. I really don't want to go to work. One of our employees had all the symptons when she got back from Disney last week, went to the doctor on  Friday (2 days ago) and they told her if her cough cleared up by Monday she could go back to work, they did not test her for Covid19. They did not even recommend that she self isolate.

I am worried.

Our Madrid HQ is on lockdown.

I met with Safety on Friday and I'm swapping people with desktops out for laptops starting tomorrow.

So looks like we're getting ahead a lockdown scenario.

I'm on 2 days a week at the office, 3 from home.

I'll probably go in more than that. My office/lab is it's own world there anyway.

How does that not make sense. Schools are out, idiot people carrying the virus will try to go to the amusement parks because tHeY fEeL FiNe and spread it around more. Not to mention the people that work there are susceptible to catching it.

Stay in your house

WFH was made optional for certain groups last week. By mid week, I expect the hospitals will be on a policy where if you do not have to be physically in building for your job function, you will be elsewhere.

2020-03-15 12:43:31 PM
I've been developing the contingency plans and getting infrastructure in place for the last 3 days, I figure it's going to take a couple more to get where we need to be.

Because it's two weeks. There are those who say this thing has been out since December. And it's going to be out indefinitely. What is shutting down a major theme park and its surrounding businesses for two weeks going to do except make people homeless?

In the course of the last week, we went from WFH one day to test ability to being told to WFH until further notice.  Had to buy a decent monitor as a 15.5 inch laptop screen doesn't cut it.

It's not like closing a barn door after a horse has already escaped; it's like closing a barn door to prevent the rest of the diseased horses from escaping and coughing on the healthy horses in the pasture.

All these closures "for 2 weeks" are a punt so people don't cancel long term plans. They will be extended.

I was just off for most of the previous 2 weeks due to Type B flu. Really late in the season for this and I'm still not well. I will be going in to work until either a relapse occurs or else I am told to stay home (fingers crossed).

The administration told us to go to a skeleton crew on Monday.  Our department was asked how many people were planning on working from home.  Only a few of us raised our hands.

That was the wrong question.  The correct question was "how many people need to be physically in the office to do their jobs."

I think a lot of my coworkers think they're too important to not be in the office.  They're wrong.

Slow the progression of the disease, and not overload hospitals.

The goal isn't exclusively not to get sick. People are going to get sick.

The main goal is to lower the amount of people sick at one time to save lives.

Pay close attention to the chart in the lower left. Italy's fatality rate is so high right now because the hospitals are having to triage who gets services and who doesn't.

A 2 week isolation stops/lessens that.

That's a big mistake.

My wife's NPO is closing for three weeks on Wednesday. But tomorrow they are having an all hands sit down. Three people who recently (Thursday) traveled to SF, Boston, and New Orleans will be at the table.

I just don't understand the stupidity.

Gosh, it's almost like we are so ill prepared as a society, that every time something like this happens we have these huge swaths of society that either can't or won't rationalize something like staying the fark home for a little while.

My suggestion is to eat the conservatives first.

We're on spring break, but they've just closed us until at least April 3rd here in AZ. I'm wondering if we're going back before the end of the school year and how we're going to provide online instruction. A third of my kids don't have reliable internet access and/or access to reliable computers.

I'm finalizing plans to send all of my staff home on Monday, which for some reason is a complete surprise to my execs, who don't have an IT meeting to talk about remote workstations until farking Friday. I'm probably going to be onsite until the Governor orders my workplace closed.

2020-03-15 1:31:21 PM
I have no choice. We were sent home early and suddenly on Thursday with no information as to whether we'd be back Friday... Monday... ever. Got word late Thursday night that production was abutting down for 2 weeks.
Practically the entire industry has shut down. Maybe for two weeks, in some cases I'm hearing productions won't be ramping up again till June.
Couple that with a possible Writers strike looming in May.
I may be out of work for months.

Screening international travelers.  Can't call in sick, subster.  If I do, then I'll probably face a 14 day quarantine.  As much as I enjoy time off, I'm not looking to get it like that.  At some point, I expect to be exposed to this virus if not already.  Just working on trying to keep the odds in my favor of not getting sick or taking it home to the family.  I do have some at-risk family that I've told to stay away from me and my crew for the short term because of my job.

Are you seriously this idiotic or are you just trolling the thread?  I have to ask because I assume you have been wandering around coughing on everyone since you rely on the power prayer to protect you.

Stay home if you can, don't be a Typhoid Mary, or a Trumper and go out so that it can spread faster.  Or is this what you are hoping will trigger the End Times to send you home, since suicide is a sin.

School is out for 6 weeks here, starting tomorrow.  Since I am currently an unemployed bum ill be staying home and trying to wrangle the kid into doing her lessons.  The wife will be trying to keep her small home business afloat, but all of our events that we normally vend at have been cancelled for the next 2 months or more so it is going to be a challenge.  My 70+ year old mom that lives with us is so far staying healthy and we are going to try and keep it that way.  I think she would make it through a case of it if she gets it, but I really don't want to test that theory, since we are still working to close my Dads estate from his passing.

I am hoping that the need to quarantine passes fairly quickly so that I can try and pick up some work.

2020-03-15 2:36:50 PM
My company stopped all work travel. I had trips planned to NYC and Boston in the next few weeks, but I've since cancelled both of those.

The first weekend in April is supposed to be a trip to Denver, and then there's a large group of us going to Florida in mid-April. Who really knows what the status of those are at this point.

2020-03-15 2:44:33 PM
I work at a hotel, alone on the third shift.  No change possible there.

What has changed is the fast dropping number of reservations.  We'll barely hit 20% capacity all week.  While this doesn't directly affect my paycheck, the housekeepers will have far less to do.
