This price gouging creep says he's providing a public service, yeah right by charging exorbitant prices?

Someone found hand sanitizer on Amazon?

2020-03-14 8:48:42 AM
Why does he charge so much, if it's not price gouging?  "I honestly feel like it's a public service," he added. "I'm being paid for my public service."

F*ck you.  You want to do public service? Sell that shiat to your local hospital at cost.

Most people don't have to worry about mobs of angry Americans raiding their homes during this crisis.

Matt Colvin has to worry. A lot. Lots of angry gun owners in Tennessee are looking for everything he has in his shed right about now.

NYT is doing the Lord's work.

Someone is going to break into that guys house.

fark that greedy piece of shiat. May karma bite him in the ass.

Good. I'm glad he can't sell any of his stuff. If God were real and bad things happened to bad people someone would break into his house and murder those pieces of shiat.

If this were me:

Step 1: buy hand sanitizer
Step 2: sell at 1 dollar more than I bought it for

That's it. This hawker is selling crao at 80 freaking dollars a pop. That's gouging. 1 dollar more, I'd have understood. That's a way to make a little cash and at 18k bottles that's 18k dollars he didnt have before.

I don't think this is an ideal example of gouging, at least yet. There are simple alternatives to hand sanitizer for most cases and the toilet paper thing is just bizarre.

But an unintended consequence of prohibitions and shaming for price-gouging is that it allows people to hoard excessive supplies, which greatly accelerates and magnifies shortages. Some level of dynamic supply vs demand pricing would probably be best to ensure everyone has access to necessities. If prices doubled from what they were a month ago, fewer people would buy up a decade's worth, and more people would be able to find and justify getting enough for a couple of months.

growinthings: This price gouging creep says he's providing a public service, yeah right by charging exorbitant prices?

He's got a valid point in that he's the means for relocating stock from Godforsaken, OK, where it won't get accessed, to areas where need and demand are far higher. Some folks would rather that the stuff stay in Godforsaken and just sit there rather than put money in the pockets of guys like this. That's what legislators and governors are for, to decide which of those viewpoints wins. Just be aware that forbidding sales at "unconscionable" prices will not result in a drop in prices, it'll just mean that it's not available at any price.

I am making assumptions:

1 - He goes to a mega church on a regular basis
2 - Owns at least two MAGA Hats and has attended Trump rallies
3 - Uses the "I talk louder than you, so I am right" tactic when discussing politics
4 - Doesn't work for anyone else because he is a "Business Man", I am sure he also drives for Uber or Lyft also.
5 - Has something that looks like health insurance but isn't health insurance... and soon will find out just how bad it is.
6 - Listens everyday to Dave Ramsey

How is Amazon out of hand sanitizer?  I would assume they would be better at logistics than that?

As for his stockpile, Mr. Colvin said he would now probably try to sell it locally. "If I can make a slight profit, that's fine," he said. "But I'm not looking to be in a situation where I make the front page of the news for being that guy who hoarded 20,000 bottles of sanitizer that I'm selling for 20 times what they cost me."

Ummmm... you're talking to the New York Times.  You literally did just that.

uh I guess you forgot that prohibition has been a favorite pastime of Republicans for decades, or??

2020-03-14 1:23:50 PM
I can understand his logic somewhat: going to multiple stores to buy up stock, labor, truck rental, shipping, and fees.  However, at the quantity that he said he did, does NOT add up to a 79$ different in costs (hand sanitizer purchased at $1 a bottle vs sold at $80 a bottle) when averaged out over all of the product.  So yes, price gouging.

Don't buy unnecessary things. Wash your hands with soap, you farking cretins.

Also, Fark Amazon. Why you would buy anything from "3rd party sellers" on that site is beyond me.

I would be on board with that if you added
step 3: limit supply to a reasonable amount per shipping address. No bulk order bullshiat.

Honestly I could be sold on it being a "public service" if they only charged a small reasonable markup and rationed it out since stores didn't do that initially. However this price gouging during a public emergency shiat needs to stop. People like this need to be slapped hard as they are going to get people killed, just like anyone that hoards a shiat ton more products than they need.

We really need a law on the books that fines away all profits people make by exploiting a public emergency and funnels that into a victims fund to pay for medical or other expense for them. You working in cash only and we can't figure out what your actual profit is, then we take the worse case we know about and assume you sold your entire supply at that until you provide evidence it was less.

Yeah this genius just drew a bullseye on himself, there are going to be some scared, angry people that will raid his shed.  At this point he should just sell it out of the back of a truck and hide from people.

There are some products from 3rd parties that are direct sales there letting Amazon handle distribution and shipping for them

This. I hope his neighbors break in, steal all that they can carry, and then torch the rest where it sits. Bonus points if the fire department points out that they have a lot of water and he doesn't, and ask if he'd like to buy some water at say...$50/gallon?

Except there's not always a sink around, like when you're at the store. It's good to keep a bottle in the car or on your person to give your hands a quick cleaning on your way out. Especially if you have kids, who touch absolutely everything, sanitizer or wipes come in handy when you're in public.

Was that too difficult?

Hopefully Amazon is breathing down the necks of the tp price gougers too.

May they have explosive diarrhea and run out of tp.
