And yet another imposition on Americans turns out to be totally arbitrary and easily ended once it becomes clear that inconveniencing the common folk also endangers the People Who Matter.

You guys, this is a trig question.  The TSA can't let you on with more hand sanitizer, because there is no more hand sanitizer.

Nobody is flying any more.  Lay their thieving asses off.

Isn't hand sanitizer, like, really flammable in a bad way?

To hats ridiculous! Now the durty terrists will start blowing up planes! Shame on the TSA.

Just kidding, they're useless security theater that's should be eliminated.

Yep. They are there to prevent bombs from getting on board, but are now going to allow pure alcohol to be brought aboard, and whatever else you care to claim is alcohol.

Why? Why do you need a pint of sanitizer on a domestic flight? I think this is mostly to prevent the image of tsa stealing people's sanitizer for their own personal use.

Don't ask silly questions because you won't like the wide range of answers you get.

19 years of pointless security theater, and now because someone in Brazil is coughing they lift restrictions on ONLY THE FLAMMABLE things....

/f*cking useless.

I came home on a red-eye last night. It was f*cking PACKED. My team is stuck in Vegas and they want to come home, but one way's are 750-1K now because of demand.

I routinely flew with a carry on bag, and no checked luggage.  When traveling I bring a tube of toothpaste.  I don't expect to use the tube of toothpaste on the flight, but I'd kind of like to have it with me for the week I'm out of town.

My friend who is a flight attendant. ... Except, now that they shut her son's school for the next two weeks, she won't be flying. As it is, they had been cutting her hours already.

Now I can smuggle bombs in my hand sanitizer

It's all coming together

People are just going to take advantage of this new policy by drinking the sanitizer. I've seen Intervention.

You won't be able to buy it once you get where you're going.

Not that sanitizer does much against viruses.  Alcohol kills living cells just fine, but viruses aren't alive.

2020-03-14 10:30:57 AM
So all I have to do is put a sanitizer label on my drum of lube and I can bring it on the plane?
Nice.

I fly 2 times a week... on a private 8 seater turboprop.

Yeah.  I don't think you can bring it on a Chinese plane at all.

It works fine against Coronaviruses.

Some other countries have to do the small liquid thing. We had to abide by it on a Paris to Fez Morocco flight, so US travel wasn't involved. It's worldwide airport theater designed to make it look like something is being done to keep us safe.

No -- max volume of 12 ounces, and still need to abide by the FAA limit (160 proof max).

Yup. Shows how effective they think their ban is. Funny that they are still banning other liquids and gels. So stupid and everyone knows it.

ChicagoKev: 160 proof max

140 proof is the maximum that TSA allows in either carry-on or checked baggage. When I find bottles of Bacardi 151 they go to environmental recycling and a notice gets stuck in the baggage that it was removed because it was hazmat.

The ban is in place because testing every bottle of water or Mt Dew that comes through the checkpoint would drag things to a halt. The ban is to "filter" out liquids because we don't have the time or manpower to deal with it.

I wonder how exactly how they are going to determine the proof of hand sanitizer, especially since so many people are making it.

They'll set it on fire, if it burns or explodes, good to go.

If the flame goes out, no more than 100ml.

We only check it if it's over 3.4 fl oz. Passenger numbers are tanking, so probably lots of time to check things thoroughly.

Look at the label. But that limit on proof only applies to distilled alcohol for human consumption, so it doesn't apply to hand santizer.

I do live in a major university city. However, it's a small airport with few regional jet flights that are usually full or close to it. 10,000 students could show up tomorrow looking to blow out of town and there is maybe 10-20 seats available to purchase on any given day, so the rest can stand outside and vape for all I care.
