I don't think things exploding in Iraq is exactly news anymore.

2020-03-12 9:43:25 PM
President Donald Trump told reporters Thursday that he had been working on what to do about the attack on Wednesday night."They've sent a lot of rockets now. It hasn't been fully determined it was Iran," Trump said.He added, "It was a rebel group, but most likely it looks like it could be backed by Iran."Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Thursday that the truck that fired the approximately 30 107mm rockets was captured by the Iraqi Security Forces and that forensics from that vehicle helped identify the attackers."We have pretty good confidence who did this. We were able to capture the truck, it was a modified truck with tubes, rocket tubes on the back, the Iraqi security forces did a good job in helping secure that truck. We have good indications based on forensics where it was fired from, who did the firing and so on and so forth," Milley said.So we're bombing random people and hoping they were responsible? JFC.

We're bombing facilities in Iraq, which has told us to get our military out of their country. What kind of brain-damaged moron thinks this makes sense?

The distractions won't work, Donny. Everyone's getting sick. It's going to be everywhere. I don't think anyone's going to care about theater when they're patiently waiting 14 days to see if they need to be rushed to the hospital.

Reality check - these are Iraqi targets.
The "Iran-backed" label is just that - words the Trump administration is saying.
And you know what those are worth.
We are back at war in Iraq, with the Iraqi people, who want us gone.
If you believe anything else, you are a fool.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but hitting Iran when they're in the middle of a pandemic makes does make some strategic sense.

Bullshiat.

Iran demonstrably doesn't give much of a shiat about Iraq.  Their efforts are well known to be focused on the three-way fight over the intermittently-reanimated corpse of ISIS (and Syria in general) and they've only got so much money in the state sponsor of terrorism budget which they're already splitting with more immediately relevant interests in the Gulf and their proxy war in Yemen.

I want to say "ironically", but the more appropriate word is sadly "unsurprisingly", Iran is basically too busy being more effective and helpful at suppressing international terrorism than the US has ever been to waste much money or effort starting it up where there isn't any.  And even that is leaving aside that Iran has much bigger non-military concerns going on right now.

// Note that I am not saying Iran is the good guy in the region by any stretch.  I will however, as a bonus aside, point out that even if they were as pointlessly, cartoonishly evil for the lulz as Trump is trying to sell them, then it would still be against their evil plan of evicting the US from the region to start shiat in Iraq when every legitimate faction in Iraq is trying to (peacefully) evict the US from the region and their government is literally kicking us out, though.  It takes a special kind of failure when even the propaganda you're spewing counters your own propaganda narrative, good job Trumpy.

Depends on who you are. If you are getting rich off it, or obtaining power and influence from it - it's quite pointed and meaningful to you.
It's not pointless to the owners and profiteers of the military-industrial complex.
It's not pointless to Netanyahu and the right wing in Israel.
It's not pointless to the insane Dominionists in America, who want to see the world end according to a Bronze Age campfire story.
It's only pointless to guys like you and me.

As I've said before, when I hear "X-backed" I automatically assume that means "not associated with X whatsoever." No matter who's president. It's just a convenient excuse, and it's not like anyone's capable of fact-checking it.

It's called starting a war.  Everyone knows that you don't change horses mid-stream.  Nevermind that Donny could never ride a horse or even get his ass on one.  Someone thought this was a good plan-B for a coronavirus response.

Putin is doing testing.
Actually thanks to Putin, it's easier to get a Covid-19 test in Iran than America.

To paraphrase General Ripper from Dr. Strangelove, "We cannot allow a state funded institution for viral research gap!"

Kicking an enemy while they're down works, assuming you keep kicking them until they can't get up again. If you're only willing to kick them once or twice, best hope they have bigger fish to fry when they get up. And they will get up, because you didn't keep kicking them.

But there was supposedly some guy from Iran there (big fancy general mastermind supervillain oh yeah), so that makes it magically Iran, and not Iraq, and the Iraqi casualties Iranian. And of course, the trump administration wouldn't lie about any of that.
