They should telecommute the debate.

In a month's time, all these decisions are going to look like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic.

I especially like the "no audience" aspect, so I don't have to Tivo it and fast-forward through all the unnecessary applause.

They're already there in the replies. The DNC conspired to have Biden get significantly more votes than Bernie, therefore Bernie should be the nominee. They moved the debate to help Biden. Everything is to help Biden.

I think it will be refreshing to see a debate without the pauses for applause and other popularity reinforcement bullcrap. DNRTFA but i hope that's what happens here.

Trump would wither and die in front of us if he had to have a debate in this format. He has no idea what to say without an audience to read.

That way Biden could just sit in his underwear like he wanted from the start.

I sure wish it had been (Gabbard notwithstanding) any of the other 2 candidates that were still our options at this point.  Either of these 2, as well as the current asshole, could easily get taken out by covid19.  Wouldn't it be fantastic if it was Warren vs Pete?

No audience and move it?  AZ has been fairly case free while dc is hotter.  Oh well their lives.

OK. (shrug)

Had no plans to watch. I wasn't watching last night when President Moutheyes issued his latest evidence that he couldn't find his own giant ass with both tiny hands.

This is the clearest proof yet that the DNC is trying to kill the old geezers that are left so that they can install Hillary as the nominee at the empty convention.

I prefer Bernie but he should just stop and instead spend his time working on getting his progressive ideology into the Democratic agenda so they can beat Trump.

I'd be happy if all debates were done this way.  It's a federal office, why not have it at the central location of the federal government.  And they don't need audiences ever.

If anyone involved in either campaign has covid, they would bring it with them to Arizona. The hotel(s) they stay at, the restaurants they eat at, the auditorium which holds the debate, would all become hot spots.

If Arizona is currently case-free, the decision not to have the debate there helps keep AZ case-free.

Yeah, I can't really fault them for this. Teleconferencing the debate would be better -aside from being safer in itself, it would set a good example- but even this is an improvement.

So, moving the thing from Arizona, where the diagnosed coronavirus level currently seems to be low (not surprisingly, I guess; warmer weather, so more outdoor gatherings and fewer large indoor crowds) to Washington, where coronavirus seems to be popping up all over the place.  Sure, makes perfect sense--let's have two 70-something old men with past health issues get together there instead.

(I guess the probable justification is less travel for everyone involved so fewer people stuck on planes, etc., but Jeez.)

I mean I actually think townhall debates are pretty awesome because the questions formulated by journalists seem designed to grab a soundbite on a topic already done to death (how many debate questions this year have been about Medicare For All and the criticism of the price tag? We have it at every single one) and instead have a candidate have to deal with something a little less polished but that they can't prepare for.

That said they have done internet submitted questions before at debates that could work.

Hell: real-time Reddit AMA. Knowing your answer on ducks versus horses is very important.

So the DNC is rigging the election against Bernie once again. They KNOW that Biden will lose the debate to Bernie, and they can't risk Biden not winning the primary because they want Trump re-elected.

/am I doing it right?

About midway through the debate Bernie is going to start coughing. He'll rush Biden coughing and hacking. As he's beaten down my security he'll gasp his last words "...For Tulsi..."

I've always thought they shouldn't have an audience. Too many interruptions, laughs, and applauses that just waste time. And more importantly, not having an audience for a Trump debate would be good so his school yard insults don't get any reaction

Yes. Correct. Almost everything the DNC does is to help Biden. That is absolutely true.

The Bernie people whining about can be told they have nothing to whine about, but they are allowed to whine. Bernie is an independent that doesn't play well with the party so the party doesn't want him, so it's helping Biden.

Of course this is f*cking true.Of course it is. The only thing about it that pisses me off is how many people are acting like it's nottrue. It's absolutely what the party is doing.

And that's the way it goes. This is politics. Bernie is getting a bit screwed. The DNC is kinda screwing him. And it makes sense. Tell the Bernie whiners that they are wasting their time whining. Acting like it's not actually happening is gaslighting and is causing way more problems than saying "that's right we are against Bernie it's not happening move on."

/A voter here that did NOT vote for Bernie, so miss me with that sh*t

If Washington is shutting down, how does this make sense?

2020-03-12 1:43:05 PM
I"m tired of the infighting, gridlock, and argument. Look, Bernie isn't getting the nomination and Biden isn't getting Bernie's voters. Neither are a candidate the party can unify behind and take to November and win. Period. We need to start talking about the fact the convention's going to be brokered, and whether a compromise candidate is what's best for the party at this moment.

There's already a candidate in the race that may be a latecomer, but is definitely having an impact. They've taken on AIPAC. They've taken on CPAC. They've taken on health care executives, Wall Street, corrupt cottage industries like college and professional sports, third-world fascist dictators, and Jair Bolsonaro.

They have a plan for ending generational gridlock in the Democratic party, and breaking the tyranny of the boomer holding back significant progress that must be made to ensure continued American success in the 21st Century. They have a tested and proven plan for dramatically reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the potential effects of climate change. In fact, they're even forcing Congress to take decisive steps in realizing actual universal health care.

Biden and Bernie supporters have different ideas how to achieve the same goals. By sitting down to communicate and compromise, we may not get everything we want individually, but we'll definitely get that and more. It's time for us to stop arguing and rally around the clear Democratic frontrunner: coronavirus.
