"If I don't rob this bank, someone else is going to."

See?  Total moral justification.

People should stick to things that work, like Jim Bakker's Silver Solution combined with Brett Favre's Copperfit attire.

In my experience, the "if I'm not a self-centered asshole, somebody else will be!" mentality is hardly exclusive to this scenario

Assuming said self-centered asshole has any hint of self-awareness of course, which they usually do not.

Sales people that I call "drug pirates" are quoting me $125 for 70% alcohol $200 for a box of gloves. 2-3 thousand for a few bottles of cheap old drugs they are using for treatment.

The gouging is insane.

I  managed to score a bottle of Aloe Vera gel from Walmart (shelf was empty, but I spotted a box on a cart waiting to be stocked), that combined with some 91% alcohol I already have (for cleaning umm...glassware) = a farkton of sanitizer.

/Bidding starts at $10 a bottle

This totally works! We can all do it!

"If I don't kick this guy in the balls first, somebody else is going to. This allows me to do it."

"If I don't kick this guy in the balls second, somebody else is going to. This allows me to do it."

"Hand santizer hawkers justify their greed"

I find the real "justification" is easy and obvious.
Day in  day out in America, pay to live to today.
hungry?
Pay
Thirsty?
Pay
Sick? In Pain? Suffering?
Pay.

We do not have a civilization here, this is not a society. It is just  a market.
You do not have neighbors and fellow citizens, you have competitors or customers.

So the justification is found in how everyone lives day in day out all the rest of the time here.
We do not have a crisis of society or humanity here, we just have mares opportunities.

If  you  want something  besides that, you'll have to tactfully live it day in day out normally, and tech all the children how to be this way when they grow up. Not just when its convenient or emotionally comforting for you from one arbitrary moment to the next.

You  get what you give, you reap what you sow. And if you had wanted a differetn attitude seen now, then you should'a been showing it to us as the daily norm before now.

Yeah look more like the same old same old.
I have what you need, maybe even just to live another day, so i guess you'll fooking hand over whatever  i  deamnd of you or hurry up and die already.

Seriously? Because that's illegal.

Also, liquor store was out of everclear. People are buying it in bulk.

2020-03-11 11:53:10 AM
If someone's dumbass wants to buy $60 for a luxary item during a crisis and cry about price gouging they can go ahead and do it and they should have zero sympathy. Those bottles will last weeks when this is a months long issue. Everyone will be out of sanitizer regardless of the price paid

Purell isnt medicine. You wont die without it. If it was it would be different. There are plenty of ways to protect oneself. That would take effort to learn what they are and to actually give a crap about your health to have prepared and thus we are back at people thinking $60 for sanitizer is something worth buying.

Case in point. Everyone is freaking out about and hording the Purell while no doubt ignoring the soap on the very next shelf underneath.

Would you feel any pity if one of those dots stopped moving forever? If I offered you £20,000 for every dot that stopped - would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money? Or would you calculate how many dots you could afford to spare? Free of income tax, old man......free of income tax. It's the only way to save money nowadays.

Hand sanitizer is useful in situations like right before you get into your car while out instead of contaminating everything in the car.

I want to be mad at him.  But if somebody is stupid enough to spend $138 on a bottle of hand sanitizer, it's not his responsibility to keep money in that moron's pockets.

Jokes on them, I made gallons of it at work following a WHO recipe.

I stupidly invested in toilet paper.

Apparently this stuff is made from stuff that literally grows on trees. Or in trees. Or whatever. It doesn't matter. It is easy to make and the stores are full of toilet paper again.

I should have diversified across toilet paper, sanitizer, and meal-in-a-bucket kits. Live and learn.

Neat. The fundamental flaw in human social nature which enables the Tragedy of the Commons, distilled down to one sentence.

"Someone will always take more. Unless I do too, they will outcompete me."

The liquid soap was also in very short supply over the weekend, mostly the expensive smelly stuff.  But plenty of bar soap and dish soap and body wash.

Out here in Colorado there is tons of it on the shelves. Out of toilet paper, bottled water, hand sanitizer, and rubbing alcohol. But plenty of paper towels, gallons of water, and soap.

Apparently along with forgetting how to wash our hands society has also lost the technology of a drinking cup.

You can make your own hand sanitizer. Why are morons buying this for 100+ usd? I mean it's literally rubbing alcohol with glycerin and water.

Make. Your. Own.

2020-03-11 1:44:26 PM
I seem to recall that as the trend to use hand sanitizer was going down (a few years ago) that a study or article mentioned that a lot of the product out there didn't actually clean hands or surfaces.

Nadie_AZ: I seem to recall that as the trend to use hand sanitizer was going down (a few years ago) that a study or article mentioned that a lot of the product out there didn't actually clean hands or surfaces.

Correct. The reason water and soap work so well is you're washing the germs down the drain. Booze only kills 99.9% of the germs, and iirc the study said it was even less than that. The BEST method is to wash your hands, second best is to use hand sanitizer wipes. Barring that, douse your hands in the stuff and wipe it off. Same thing.

Beginning of the end: You can make your own hand sanitizer. Why are morons buying this for 100+ usd? I mean it's literally rubbing alcohol with glycerin and water.

Make. Your. Own.

Which is why there is now a rubbing alcohol shortage in a lot of places.

I wonder if these assholes understand that part of preventing yourself from catching this virus is to help others in your community prevent catching the virus.  All the hand sanitizer in the world won't help you if you're surrounded by sick people.

I went to my local Walgreens Monday night looking for one bottle of alcohol.  The lady there told me she sold all 36 bottles they had to another woman earlier that afternoon.  When I told her how appalled I was, she tried to walk it back ("it really wasn't one person, it was just over the afternoon").
Found what I needed at Fleet Farm (which was down to their last 3 bottles).  Still trying to find decent aloe, which is gone everywhere.  Have vegetable glycerine coming today to use in a pinch.
