"Irwin Jacobs, the founder and longtime chairman of the telecom company Qualcomm, and his wife Joan invested $1.5 million into an outside super PAC that backed the Democratic primary election bid of their granddaughter Sara Jacobs in California's 53rd Congressional District. On Tuesday, Jacobs advanced to the runoff with about 30 percent of the Election Day vote, according to the Associated Press."

Shiatty no matter which party is trying to buy an election. At least Bloomberg was kicked out of the primaries by his poor showing. Not that he should have been running as a Democrat anyways. Hell, he has so much money, he can run as a primary challenger to Trump, then fail, then continue to antagonize Trump. Did Trump really bother to mock Bloomberg's height? I wish Bloomberg would just buy off all of Trump's re-election support.

Citizens United broke what was already heavily fractured.  "Democracy" doesnt mean anything now.

Also, in before some right-winger complains that liberals wont call it out unless it's a Republican doing it.

I liked Irwin's son, Sara's father, Gary.  He owned the minor league hockey team in Las Vegas before the arena kicked it out.

So are we pretending that rich families going into politics is a new thing? Taft's brother owned multiple baseball teams. FDR was born as a member of 3 wealthy families. Kennedy joked about his dad not wanting to spend the money for a landslide. We had a Rockefeller as a VP. Harding owned a newspaper. H.W. Bush's dad was a partner in what was the largest private investment bank. Hell, some founding fathers owned newspapers they used to slander each other.

Plutocrats have been a major part of any political governance for thousands of years. People like Carter are by far the exception. We can literally go back two thousand years and see that one of Caesar's major political allies was considered the richest man in Rome (Crassus).

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the overturning of Citizens United and the closing of the wealth inequality of the country. Still, we need to be realistic about our history.

Spending her money? No problem. Does she draw other donors? I'll actually be surprised if a Dem wins in San Diego. She's swimming upstream.

America had an alternative. They could have elected a Democratic nominee that would clean up campaign finance - there were two options.

Turns out, we want a Democratic Party where wealthy people can buy campaigns.
