More proof that Ratcliffe knows his nomination is a sham that has no hope of getting confirmed.  He's just a tool to make sure Grenell can spend enough time in his position to make sure all the bodies are buried and our most sensitive secrets are handed over to the Kremlin.

The formal nomination of Ratcliffe allows Grenell to serve in an acting capacity for 210 days while Ratcliffe's nomination is pending before the Senate and, if the nomination is rejected or withdrawn, for another 210 days.

https://www.rferl.org/amp/why-was-ukraine-top-prosecutor-fired-viktor-shokin/30181445.html

Activists say the case had been sabotaged by Shokin himself. As an example, they say two months before Hunter Biden joined Burisma's board, British authorities had requested information from Shokin's office as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering by Zlochevskiy (Owner of Burisma) . Shokin ignored them.

Kaleniuk
(executive director of the Kyiv-based Anti-Corruption Action Center)  and AntAC published a detailed timeline of events surrounding the Burisma case, an outline of evidence suggesting that three consecutive chief prosecutors of Ukraine -- first Shokin's predecessor, then Shokin, and then his successor -- worked to bury it.

"Ironically, Joe Biden asked Shokin to leave because the prosecutor failed [to pursue] the Burisma investigation, not because Shokin was tough and active with this case," Kaleniuk said.

Ukrainian prosecutors have described no evidence indicating that Biden sought to help his son by getting Shokin dismissed -- and have suggested that they have not discovered any such evidence.

But there is a long list of Western organizations, governments, and diplomats, as well as Ukrainian anti-corruption groups, that wanted to see Shokin fired.

The period Shokin was investigating was before Hunter Biden was hired and the complaints were that he was slow-walking the investigation and actually interfered in a British case against the head of Burisma by refusing to turn over documents that the British government needed for the case against him.

The evidence seems to point much more to Burisma being corrupt and hired Hunter Biden to convince American authorities to turn a blind eye to the comfy arrangement that they had with Shokin protecting them from him ever acting on the probe. That still speaks very poorly to Hunter Biden's judgement, but the need to claim that Shokin was innocent and that evil Joe Biden fired him for his son leads us to the very weird position we are in now where Republican Senators who called for Shokin to be fired for corruption are trying to claim ignorance if he was really corrupt or not.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/29/business/media/fact-check-biden-ukraine-burisma-china-hunter.html

The allegation at the heart of the controversy is that while Mr. Biden was vice president, he pushed to have Ukraine's top prosecutor removed for investigating a company connected to Mr. Biden's son Hunter, the Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma. Videos pushing this theory began appearing on Twitter in late September and early October and have been viewed tens of millions of times. Mr. Trump's campaign has also asserted the claim in ads on Facebook.

Vice President Biden was overseeing American policy toward Ukraine at the time, and he did push for the removal of the country's top prosecutor, who was seen as corrupt or ineffectual by the United States and Western European governments. But there is no evidence he did so to benefit Hunter Biden or the oligarch who owns Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky.

Ask Senators. Rob Portman (R-OH), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and Mark Kirk (R-IL) about it.
They are all signatories of the February 12, 2016 letter to the Ukrainian president about some much-needed reforms in the prosecutor's office. Specifically, to get rid of prosecutor Viktor Shokin because of his refusal to investigate corruption at a number of large corporations, including Burisma.

That's right: Joe Biden, a bunch of Senators, and representatives from a number of European countries wanted more investigations of possible (probable) corruption that might have got Hunter Biden in trouble.

But the only reason any of this is back in the news in because Biden is doing well in the primaries.

This is the stuff that keeps me awake. The people in charge now are the people who advised Trump do illegal things and the people being shown the door are the people who tried telling him it was illegal. How do you come back from the sort of brain drain on display? Decades of experience being sliced away in service of the president's ego, with the conceit that if he wishes to try to seek dirt on opponents again it will not see any resistance.

Saying there's no evidence is an understatement. The facts don't even fit the possibility that the reason to fire that prosecutor could be linked to Hunter Biden. Not only was the investigation done for the prosecution not covering the time HB was employed, that investigation had been closed by the time he was hired. Also, you'd need evidence that all those European countries that were also pushing for the firing also had ulterior motives or were strong armed by the VP.

Hunter Biden was hired much for the same reason BP oil may donate to the Sierra club. It's window dressing. It affords them an air of respectability so their public relations people can tone down the image of corruption or the association with the ongoing destruction of the environment. It's farked up but entirely legal.

"The former Ukrainian prosecutor whose firing played centrally in the Democratic House's impeachment of President Donald Trump reportedly filed a complaint with Ukraine's National Bureau of Investigation demanding an investigation be opened against Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden.
The French news site Les Crises posted a copy of the complaint in English in which Viktor Shokin charges that Biden wrongfully orchestrated his ouster as Ukraine's prosecutor general.

"Throughout the last months of 2015 and the first months of 2016 Joseph Biden, taking advantage of his position, came several times on official visits to Ukraine in order to negotiate with the leaders of the country my eviction and, consequently, the closing of the objective investigation into the offenses committed by persons associated with the company 'Burisma Holding Limited' (Cyprus), including the son of the aforementioned US official," Shokin's complaint reads."

So, the guy that every legitimate government in Europe accused of being corrupt, was investigated for corruption, and removed for corruption, filed a complaint demanding that Biden be investigated for pressuring Ukraine to remove the him because he was corrupt.

Yeah, that's a rock solid counterargument.

Explain this fernt:

In 2014, Hunter joined the board of Burisma, which was then mired in a corruption scandal. Authorities in Ukraine, Britain and the United States had opened investigations into the company's operations. Mr. Zlochevsky had also been accused of marshaling government contracts to companies he owned and embezzling public money.

At the time of his board appointment, the younger Mr. Biden had just been discharged from the Navy Reserve for drug use. He had no apparent experience in Ukraine or natural gas. And while accepting the board position was legal, it reportedly raised some eyebrows in the Obama administration. The Burisma board position was lucrative: Mr. Biden received payments that reached up to $50,000 per month.

A year later, Viktor Shokin became Ukraine's prosecutor general, a job similar to the attorney general in the United States. He vowed to keep investigating Burisma amid an international push to root out corruption in Ukraine.

But the investigation went dormant under Mr. Shokin. In the fall of 2015, Joe Biden joined the chorus of Western officials calling for Mr. Shokin's ouster. The next March, Mr. Shokin was fired. A subsequent prosecutor cleared Mr. Zlochevsky.
