Hey, let's get all those Mueller documents in there and let the court look at them!

LOL. They all but directly challenged them to go to Discovery?!

"Please proceed, dotard".

The newspapers is owned by multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos, the CEO of online retailer Amazon.

I bet THEY can afford to hire copy editors...

I'm not a lawyer or even a lawyer's clerk, but I think "discovery" is usually regarded as "the fun part" of the law, and most of that nonsense in Court can be left to the idiots who make the big money and acquire the political power and positions.

2020-03-03 3:10:21 PM
Imagine what Obama could do to Fox News if this sets any sort of precedent.

Ha! Nowadays the typos are the loss leaders of the virtual and print media!

Trump has made his reputation as a real human being entirely based on his "human" flaws. The more he looks the innocent flower, the better he can be the venomous serpent under it!

This is going to be delightful.

Haha I love how this discovery should be fun line gets repeated every single time.

As if no attorney in the world has ever thought discovery might happen.....only some random guy on fark was smart enough to know it's a thing

Or that there really is some hidden evidence that 5 congressional committes, the Mueller crew and 90% of the press haven't been able to find.

2020-03-03 3:13:37 PM
So they're going to do a reality show about naked people killing snakes while they remodel the white house using parts they found in abandoned Russian storage bunkers?

There is zero chance this gets to discovery, this is just to get maga chuds excited that he's doing something about the liberal media

They know these suits have no merit. They think they can bully the press into avoiding negative coverage during the campaign.

If these suits were serious, they would have brought them three years ago.

I suspect discovery is the point. All the attempts will be rebuffed with "executive privilege", "classified material", "attorney client privilege (remember Trump thinks you get that if an attorney is in the room while you're criming).
This will keep the thing tied up in court throughout the campaign and allow him to say that any negative reporting is just sour grapes because he's beating them so badly in court. The existence of the case will be used to presume dishonesty on the part of the paper.

When the campaign is over the thing will quietly disappear.

It would be fun if they ever made it to court. They keep getting tossed out. No fun in that!

Forgot this. The deal isn't the suit, it is the announcement. When it is announced it is loudly. When it is tossed there is only silence.

Umm... citing two opinion articles

Doesn't that pretty much mean someone's personal opinion and negates the standing that a corporation was slandering him?
And should Killary go after Fox news for buttery males?

It's stupid as schitt, but what else does one expect from the trump administration.
Evil, I guess, to answer my own question. We expect stupid and evil...

Because attorneys for the Washington Post have never had to argue that an opinion piece is someone's opinion.
They can get a case like this dismissed in their farking sleep.

2020-03-03 3:21:19 PM
You can ignore a Congressional subpoena with impunity but you CANNOT ignore a Court subpoena without contempt of court and time in jail.

Also - the stupid republicants don't apparently realize how much money Bezos has.

Fun times to begin - once you sue the discovery is pretty much wide open.

An opinion writer says "now that the president said that he doesn't see anything wrong with accepting dirt from foreign countries and not notifying the FBI unless you want to, who knows what sort of help Russia and North Korea will offer in 2020?" And they are shocked and offended because the author has no proof that North Korea offered any help. I assume they only find the North Korea suggestion defamatory not the Russia claim in that case?

Normally, I would agree with this sentiment; however, this time trump is going after a guy with a >$100billion war chest, who really does not like millionaires targeting his business.  You need to look at his response to the dick-pic extortion attempt that was tried a while ago.  I am certainly not a fan of bezos, but I do respect the resources that he wield against a bone-spurs/trust fund baby.

bezos has real intelligence people behind him.  trump has pence.  bezos could give $200 to everyone in the country who votes against trump and still be far more wealthy than trump.

I believe that.

I also believe that the lawyers for the Trump campaign are as unqualified as anyone else that works for Trump so they may not know that.

Conversely, they could be as big as a grifter as other Trump associates and in it for the graft to fleece campaign funds for "legal fees" with a kickback to the Dotard.

All reasonable possibilities.

Holy hell, what a glorious idea.

Send it on an outdated version of a Kindle along with every order.  Hell, they could just send one of those business-card SD-card dealios with it, and, like, a copy of a book on your wishlist just cuz.  But a full on free Kindle would be more fun.

Not that people would read it (much like every t(R)eason party asshole), but it would screw with D2S so thoroughly.  Maybe a nice Halloween present from Santa Bezos?

Jenna Ellis, senior legal adviser to Trump's campaign, said that the statements published by The Post "were and are 100 percent false and defamatory."

Trump's campaign has legal advisers?

Hey Jenna, how 'bout you do your job and start advising Trump on not breaking the law so much.

For the person who thinks that the discovery will not uncover anything that ha not already been uncovered, don't you think that since a plaintiff in a libel suit that is not libel per se must show damages that the discovery of what the Trump campaign considers the damage and how they have quantified it will be enlightening to say the least. And if the campaign (or our resident GED in Law) wants to argue that somehow the statements are libel per se, they need to make an admission that any of the contacts discussed in the opinion piece would have to be a criminal act, which I am not sure they would ever really want to go down that path.

2020-03-03 3:44:09 PM
It doesn't matter what comes out, it doesn't matter if he wins. A lot of people willing hear this and think "he wouldn't be suing if he had done anything wrong, or if he didn't think he had a case." A lot of gullible people, sure, but there's no prohibition against gullible people voting.

This to infinity and beyond.
Bezos is what trump thinks he is like, and trump is what Bezos would never imagine being.
In terms of a mismatch, it would be like a dog fight between a chihuahua and a doberman.
Here, let me make that really clear:
