We all knew at some point Trump would be face with a serious crisis requiring him to dig deep into his leadership skills. Would it be war? A terrorist attack? Natural disaster?

We know what it 's gonna be and Trump, being a "businessman" running government like a business, wants to PR his way out of this. Problem is, it's real. You can't spin a cure.

He almost daily took the Dow's rise as proof he was managing the economy well.

The market has heard from him and evaluated his plan to deal with a health crisis that is already hitting the world economy and its supply chain, hard.

The Street is...unimpressed.

He's faced several major natural disasters, and his response is always...lacking. Just ask Puerto Rico.

Notice he's not tweeting about the markets this week.  Probably trying to figure a way to blame it on Obama

From the press conference:
"Q    Mr. President, the CDC said yesterday that they believe it's inevitable that the virus will spread in the United States, and it's not a question of "if" but "when."  Do you agree with that assessment?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I don't think it's inevitable.  It probably will.  It possibly will.  It could be at a very small level or it could be at a larger level. Whatever happens, we're totally prepared.  We have the best people in the world.  You see that from the study.  We have the best prepared people, the best people in the world."

I mean who could not have confidence in a response like that?

This man will have Secret Service protection for the rest of his life.

Thankfully, not nearly as intensive once he leaves office. A terrorist or other political vigilante has a passable chance of getting a missile into Trump Tower or a bullet across Mar-a-lago lawns.

Just saying.

It looks like political reality with its lies, spin, deception, crank science, and religious fanaticism has run up against objective physical reality in the form of an emerging virus. I wonder who's going to win?

Shakin_Haitian: We're all going to die, aren't we?

Nah.

Many of us are going to get sick, of those a few are going to get really sick, and 2% are going to kick the bucket. We'll have a time period of supply chain disruption and market reaction to that along with straining our medical supplies and facilities, but once that's over the market will come back and manufacturers will work over time to try and catch back up to consumer demand.

No problem with him. All he has to do is tell the people he has fixed it, or that it would have been worse if not for him, and the people believe him.

Trump cannot fail, he can only be failed.

There is a boomer duality.  Early boomers were the hippies/anti-war/green/equality crowd.  Later boomers were too young to intellectually defend their thoughts from criticisms of early boomers from their parents/authority figures and ended up being the Regan youth.  I put the line right about 1953.

I'm the youngest of 5 boomers (1943 to 1951).  We are all Democrats.  Your 1953 line might have some validity; the bigger validity is the VERY WEALTHY INHERITED MONEY FROM PARENTS boomers are the republicants.  Those of us who have moderate savings that we made on our own tend to be more liberal.

The trumpers I know here in Iowa are all around 50 years old.  They are to a person not intellectual; i.e., don't read books, couldn't tell you what the Preamble to the Constitution says our government (Constitution) is designed to do which is
Provide for the common defense
Promote the general welfare
Establish justice, and
Ensure domestic tranquility

They hate the federal deficit but are ok with trump's $1 trillion and growing annual deficit because a Democrat isn't in power.

They think the coronavirus is a media scam.

Can I just say I am tired of this whole "boomer" thing? I'm 58, and technically a boomer, but I have been liberal all my life, and have detested republicans since the days of Nixon. I will not disagree with the general assessments, but this whole habit of blaming other people based on a totally arbitrary "Generation" (Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Y, or Gen Z, or whatever the current labels are) as the cause of all the woes we suffer is stupid and pointless. Fact is - you're either a decent person or you're an asshole. That is not dependent on when you were born, or your age, but if you REALLY need to categorize people into groups that is the only standard you need.

You can't draw a line for it. I am class 55 so I should be one of the bad ones. I have younger brothers and sisters (sister is a really late boomer depending on the cutoff no one agrees on) and brother in the 70s. We all hate dumpy with a passion. Especially my brother as it affects his company.

I'm going with upbringing. You either accept your parents beliefs or reject them with some leeway but environment knows know years you were born.

I'd just like to point out that what Trump is doing is the same thing Xi is doing, putting his second in charge so they can take the blame if shiat goes tits up.

/Not that I think it will.
//He's still a coward for doing it.
