How did Hillary do in reddish-purple places?

"Let's say you were running Hillary's campaign now. What would you do differently?

I would probably do pretty close to what the campaign is doing now. I mean, since the Democratic convention, Trump has pretty much dominated the coverage with things that he has said and done. I certainly wouldn't get in his way right now. This is not the most strategically challenging campaign, as long as he is behaving as he is."

Wrong answer.

Might just be time for the left to move on from the exclusive reliance on opinions of elderly white men.

Point of order... no sane human being would TRY to run Hillary (destroyed by the GOP for 30 years) Clinton as a national candidate needing to win i those areas.

Because that's exactly how we got here.

Does that work the other way round?

When they are as effective as the GOP at character assassination? Sometimes.

I know how to vote for a lesser of two evils... had ZERO problem with picker her over him... Unfortunately, we have to cater to brain dead morons sometimes.

Look, 2016 was an epic clusterf*ck. However, 2020 seems like it's going to be even worse.

Carville is part of the Third Way\Blue Dog\Clinton wing of the DNC that has had control of the party for almost 30 years. They are terrified that Sanders is going to take the party back to what it espouses to be. The last thirty years have seen the Democrats move ever farther to the right in the belief that they will win more votes if they just stay barely to the left of the Republicans. They sold their soul because of this ideology and are absolutely terrified that Sanders is going to replace them with people that want what's best for all Americans and not just the ones that can cut $10,000,000 checks to them.

People like winners. They like candidates with integrity. They like candidates that believe in something and stand up for it. You over-estimate how much they think or care about the actual policies.

One of the Dems biggest weaknesses is that their moderate wing always uses bullshiat Republican talking points to attack the more progressive wing. They give legitimacy to the criticisms. Moderate Republicans almost never do that.

Turns out, that doesn't work.

Constructive criticism is vital.

Kinda. They don't get to choose who us Democrats like, but they do get to choose if that Democrat gets elected or not. Because the Electoral College - that odious anachronism meant to keep slave owners in charge back in the day - favors rural voters, who run purple at best and deep red usually. So this relatively small number of "purple" voters in a few key places effectively decide our elections, not the country as a whole. So they effectively act as gatekeepers for the Democratic candidates on their rise to power or failure.

It sucks, it isn't fair, but that is all entirely beside the point - because that's the law of the land. America just is a lot more broken, dysfunctional, and farked up than the fictional America we like to drill in to our kids' heads when they're young.

Actually there logic to that answer you dismissed, but not for the reason many people think. For decades the right-wing echo chamber tarred they Clinton family with everything. They became synonymous with evil for the average low information Rethuglican voter. I mean evil to the point the Clinton family is more ebil and powerful than the Trilateral Commission, Bilderbergs, Illuminati, and so on, all rolled into one with a penchant for getting away with more murders than La Cosa Nostra. Many Rethuglican voters, who might otherwise sit in their arse at home, would crawl over broken glass and fire to vote against Hillary. Why? The Clinton family is 100% PURE EBIL!

Therein they had to go vote to:

DEFEAT THE CLINTRON!!!1!1!!111!!1eleventy-one!!1!!

This wasn't really her fault, and thank goodness that every time they've tried it since it's failed miserably.

Your belief is Democrats are not winning red and purple state because they are looking for a more left wing candidate?

No, it's my belief that people respect you more when you don't come across as desperate, clingy, and/or insincere.  If you're going to claim to be a liberal, don't qualify your comments with Republican bullshiat in order to appease both sides.  All you do is ensure nobody likes you, and even fewer will trust you.
