Joseph Gay.
Joe Gay.
I'm gay?
No, Joe Gay!

"Those socialists want to take my stuff and give it to the government! I'm going to sell my stuff to the government before that happens!"

I guess I'm glad he can rightly blame himself for his problems.

2020-02-24 4:46:10 PM
Alberta, who interviewed several Uber drivers to gain their political perspectives as they shuttled politicos to and from the Iowa Caucus, noted that Gay and his wife, who is also an Uber driver, are struggling financially. While Trump hasn't improved this couple's financial situation, Gay blames himself for their problems because he's spent most of his life working odd jobs.

"We don't have a retirement thing, and medicine is expensive, so money would get pretty tight," Gay said. "I've got some things I could probably sell. But still."

This is just sad

2020-02-24 4:53:00 PM
"You know, if it wasn't for Trump, I might not even be a Republican anymore."

Hmmm, buddy...got some bad news for you...might want to sit down for this...

Joseph Gay, the 68-year-old driver in question, supports this idea even though he may have to sell personal belongings in order to purchase the medication he depends on. Gay admits to being afraid of socialism and finds the current crop of Democratic candidates worrisome.

I wonder what would happen if someone flew him out to the UK and let him talk to taxi drivers here about the NHS?  My brother (not a taxi driver) is diabetic and all his drugs, medication, blood tests, eye exams etc are free. He doesn't even have to pay the £9 prescription charge.
My mother had cataracts done at Moorfields, a world-class eye hospital. She had to pay £5 for parking. That's it.

Would he change his mind?

Is this about Trump? Didn't read the article.

2020-02-24 5:07:12 PM
Why do I have the feeling that if he were to gather up all the "stuff" he has to sell and have a hugely successful yard sale, which let's face it is the only way he'd be selling any of his stuff, he'd raise maybe enough total cash to cover a month of his medication. I'd be curious to hear his plan for after that cash influx runs out.

This has to be the most pathetic Cletus safari I've ever been on.

Once again, these people are not stupid. They are perfectly cognizant of the consequences of their actions. They simply Do Not Care. They will burn their houses down in their goal of creating a fascist ethnostate.

2020-02-24 5:27:59 PM
Well at least he's honest about wasting his life.

Maybe we should just give in and let the GOP gut the safety net. All the white trash on food stamps and disability will either have to admit they were wrong, or simply die off. Then we can reconstruct our social programs to be more encompassing.

2020-02-24 5:28:06 PM
That's not an example of "poorly educated", that's just plain stupid.

This is not a poorly educated person, this is  someone who is very intentionally and knowingly living in their own bubble of reality, casting anything that doesn't fit their preconceoved worlrdview aside, because they are unwilling to think for themselves and is far more wrapped up in tribalist concerns than actually reflecting on their own life and what impacts it. They find crafting an image of Trump fashioned after their own fantasies to be far more compelling and easy than taking a look at their own life.

Education has nothing to do with it.

This is a clone of my brother-in-law. He aggressively avoids news- never watches local news, does not follow politics, does not watch any cable news outlet whatsoever. He's a craftsman laborer and has been his whole life.

His words: "I don't know what he's doing but things are going great. The media treats him unfair."

Oh, and the other day he found out the company that he used to get side/weekend work through is closing up.

Trump will win a second term unless the economy gets a lot worse, really quick.

2020-02-24 5:32:19 PM
idiocy is a badge of honor.

the morning news is blasted with political adds for the coming primaries.  one candidate out right gushes about how trump makes the libs crazy.  he never explains why trump makes the libs crazy  or why that's a good thing.

so bad policy and poor action and terrible legislation are good as long as the other guy hates it.  this is where we are.

at least one third of the voters can be motivated to elect anyone who pisses off the rest of the country.

fox has convinced these people that they are empowered by this.

Put it in writing, shiathead. Then when we get universal healthcare, we can make sure you get to sell everything you own, since you're already ok with it

There's plenty of anxiety among elderly voters right now, but at least one aging man in Iowa, who barely makes a living driving an Uber part-time says he would like to see Donald Trump made president for life, Politico's Tim Alberta writes.

The paradox: if he gets his way, he probably won't be around to see it.

Probably. The right has them all convinced that socializing medicine will either instantly bankrupt the country or everyone will get gangrene and die waiting for their healthcare ration to become available.

Talking with other working class people from other countries about their healthcare systems could go a long way. Unfortunately, the people who continually vote against their own interests aren't exactly the "travel the world and examine your long held beliefs" type.

This is the base and, sadly, you don't have to look under rocks to find them and get these quotes.  They are loud, proud, and all over the place.

Ehhh....

This guy is 69. Shouldn't medicare be paying most of his medical bills? Including his meds?

Nothing those evil socialistic dems want to do are going to help this guy... he's not even getting the benefits he worked for his entire life because....? Ignorance? Principal?

Someone please educate why is this guy not enjoying his retirement?

https://www.medicare.gov/Pubs/pdf/11109-Your-Guide-to-Medicare-Prescrip-Drug-Cov.pdf

Well the above link was an education. So medicare appears almost  as byzantine as actual insurance (at least when it comes to medications).

I hate to say it, but the whole socialism thing is going to get us another four years of Trump.

Honestly, I would just stop voting altogether. I really wish Trump could serve three terms - or even longer. Let him serve as long as he wants."

Good.

But I'm sure you can just ignore that for the sake of your boner.

He'd change his mind if you could prove to him, in no uncertain terms, and beyond all possible doubt of it actually happening, that nobody from the groups of people he dislikes will ever benefit from M4A. In fact, if you could prove to him that, on top of giving him healthcare, you'd actually make those people's lives worse, he'd become a full-bore supporter.

Jokes on you. He's got not one, but two limited edition pocket fishermen, a barely sweat stained My Pillow, a garbage bag full of beanie babies, a cabbage patch doll still in the box, several 9/11 silver plated coins, and a maga hat not made in China (Honduras thankuverymuch)

I'd rather do something productive with at least a miniscule chance of success. Something like researching cold fusion or convincing Scarlett Johansson and Rachel McAdams to film our next three-way and put it on sale on the Internet for $19.95 a download.

I don't even talk to Trump supporters anymore, they're so f'ing stupid it's obscene. Not to mention racist, bigoted and delusional
