It's that kind of bold leadership and brave honorable stances that've made her such a respected figure in circles of those who would never vote for a Democrat.

I've been told that she is also a very attractive woman.

Virginian municipalities? You can just say "Virginia municipalities".

Times change, people change, and the heroes we worship change. Take them and move them to museums to be part of exhibits to help teach people about the history.
Find something new to put in place. Some type of rotating art exhibit that changes statues every 5 years or so would be neat and might help with tourism.

Probably makes sense in the original Russian, but she was too busy being a veteran to get the idioms right.

Or occupied by her cult obligations.

Er, I mean "surfing". Salt water on the brain. Or something.

She couldn't get elected as a Rethuglican, so she claimed to be a Democratic candidate. Somehow this got her elected, by what I assume are brain damaged people who don't pay attention at all.

Except they'd fall apart in transit. They're basically cheaply molded pieces of shiat with the same faces whether union or confederate, hastily put up to let black people know they weren't welcome. They'll fall down on their own in the next 20 years. This is like showing up to Antiques Road Show with the family's heirloom Avon perfume bottle.

Devolving_Spud: "Would you want one in your district in Hawaii?"

A stupid question, actually. Hawaii didn't even exist as Hawaii during the Civil War. And cultural ties that the region may have to these failed rebels won't exist in Hawaii. I can understand people considering the local residents before just thundering into town and mass bulldozing plaques, statues, and othe monuments, and because of that, the Hawaii question was just stupid.

Me? I think they need to exist, but like other farkers, I think they need to exist in museums and exhibits about the war. But asking her about this in relation to Hawaii is like asking her if, as a Hawaiian, she thinks that salt on the roads to combat snow is better than sand.

The proper follow up question for that is "then why should anyone here vote for you" nest that in the previous question and come back to the original once she manages an actual answer.

If she had initially given the answer she gave the third time... that it was ok to leave it up to local, she maybe could have avoided more questions.

Whether you feel that these statues should come down or not, there's no real reason for state government to make the choice for towns. And the aholes behind taking away that decision from local jurisdictions are the small government derpers.

She's just kind of a dummy. The position she wants to be in is "moderate who wants to work across the aisle like Biden but also an outsider who isn't part of any political machine." There's a theoretical way to make that work but the way she's doing it just means she can't take any strong stances on anything and can only flail around.

That's a stupid question. You're talking about monuments that have been in place for a very long time, when it made sense to honor the dead. There were no civil war era heroes in her district. And it would be new construction. Utter nonsense to pose the question.

Let the locals decide, eh?  I love the idea that we can have some sort of yokel local vote on honoring traitors to the United States.  That's just...super.  Bold leadership.

Tulsi?  You listening? (Hey, DNC: You should listen too) Leaders should take us to where we need to go to be better--better us, better world, better others.  Probably against our own judgment.  Probably against our own instincts.  SOmetimes even against our own self-interest. Leaders sell us on a grand idea.  They sell us on a future.  They sell us on us. That we can be good, and kind and wise.  That we can be better.

People who just want power?  They tell us what we want to hear.

Now, when you say "Let the locals decide", what kind of leadership is that?

Well, not like we need 50 statues of Jackson or Lee, if some of them break up that is fine with me. There should be enough around to supply a number of major museums and the rest can be used for target practice.

So American history is a lot like local weather conditions.

I mean, WW2 took place in Europe and the Pacific, who can be expected to know anything about that?!

30 or so monuments were built within the last 20 years.

Most were built 50 years after the civil war, during Jim Crow.

Many were built 50 years after that, during the Civil Rights Act period.

These are not war memorials. These were often built with the purpose of reminding black people they are not welcome.

Nope. This is bigger than just a "local" issue and someone running for a national office should know about it. "Do you want statues of people who supported slavery in your back yard" is a valid follow-up to her trying to dodge the issue.

That's not even what they want to hear.  I'm reminded of the character of Lieutenant Dike in Band of Brothers.  Completely ineffectual combat and troop leader, half because he was incapable of making decisions ("you sort things out here, I'm going to go for help") and half because he was utterly unable to inspire anything in his troops but disdain.  While I have no doubts that Dike was caricatured a bit for television, you see those exact same traits played out in ineffectual leaders all the time, and that's exactly what Tulsi's doing here.
