(YouTube) Video How 'The Young Ones' changed comedy. Subby hopes to to get this greenlit, but won't say anything 'cause no one ever listens to me, anyway. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen album   (youtube.com) divider line

Which is no "Fawlty Towers", but I think we can love them all.  At least I do.

My favourite Young Ones bit involved someone gulping a bunch of pills in a bid to off himself. It's then pointed out that you cannot kill yourself with laxatives.

They actually had the bands on because that got them classified as a "variety program" and thus they got a higher budget.

I still remember when a buddy and me got an apartment in college (that I technically wasn't allowed to have because I was a freshman) the only channel our TV got (before we got cable) was OPB.  That's how I first discovered The Young Ones.

Good times...

It was a fun show. And 12 episodes was *plenty*.

It was such an "of the moment" show, that it couldn't possibly have continued. Hell, I would say 6 episodes was enough, really.

'Coo Coo Daddy Longlegs' is a far better song than it should have been.

Living in the Wisconsin northwoods in the 80s, my family was too far from town to have cable. The whole place was stuck in the 50s, but I had a friend who had MTV, and The Young Ones was a window to another, modern,  world.

Yes, like Fawlty Towers, it was just enough and went out before it could become something less than great.  I wish more shows were like that.  I'd much rather have one or two seasons of greatness than 10 seasons spiraling into mediocrity.
