It's a good question to shrug off.  Winning a WS can boost the value of a franchise 150 million dollars or so.  You better believe every team cheats in every possible way it can for that kind of money.  A better question to be asked might be, are you mad at your managers for getting caught with such a clumsy method of relaying signs?

That's just damage control at that point, hoping to limit any draft pick losses or such.  Fetch my my fainting sofa, my manager cheated?!  Well, I never!  We must fire him immediately!

"Our opinion is this didn't impact the game. We had a good team. We won the World Series and we'll leave it at that," Crane.

Cheating helped get you to the series dickhole!  This is getting worse and worse. The black Sox get banned forever for cheating and the Astros get to run around saying "oopsies! But we're the champs still haha fark you!". And the cheating players get no punishment.

Maybe a team like the Seattle Mariners who haven't been to the playoffs for like 20 years should cheat hard this year, the punishment is so weak it would be worth it.

Funny thing:  on the WAPO article about the asterisks I Weenersed with a suggestion that they ought to fine the players the amount of their salary for the year in question, or alternatively suspend them without pay for one year.  I got 19 likes and one interesting comment in support.

Then I followed up suggesting in a following comment that the owner should be fined $100 million.  Oddly, someone at the Post deleted that comment and then, after only 32 total comments, the Post closed the comments because of their "sensitivity" rule, which usually only applies when talking about death, disease or injuries or something of that sort.  Apparently rich people (owners?) have lots of pull at the Post now.

Nobody has a lower opinion than me of MLB and the people who run it or own its teams. I'm quite confident that the best of the bunch would murder their own mothers -- or at least a random fan's mother -- if it meant selling an extra season ticket. (Notice I don't say winning. Winning is just one way, not usually the most cost-effective, to increase revenue.)

But.

There's a speeding ticket and then there's armed robbery. Players are legit pissed and yelling about it all over Twitter because not everyone does this. I say this as a Red Sox fan, the only other team out of 30 that seems to have been approaching this level of shiatty behavior. I wish everyone did it, so it wouldn't be as bad that my team did, but they don't.

I don't have strong feelings about how this should be resolved. Nuke the Astros from orbit, slap them on the wrist... that's just corporate governance stuff, done by and for people who wouldn't recognize a baseball if you beaned them with one. And I can even see the case for fans not caring very much. But this isn't something fans can shrug off with "everyone does it."

The Black Sox didn't cheat to win. They lost on purpose for money. There is a difference.

No, they got banned for throwing games.

Baseball doesn't care about cheaters. They never had. They literally had a star player write a farking book detailing in detail how he cheates on a day-to-day basis and literally nothing happened to him.

No but opposing pitchers are gonna have some control problems against the Astros if you catch my drift

The black Sox cheated to lose, the Astros cheated to help them win. Yes its different except for the fact both teams cheated.  That's all I was trying to say.  And one got banned and another got a title. I wouldn't ban the Astros but that title belongs in a garbage dump.

So far Correa is the only one who doesnt seem to be talking out both sides of his mouth in the entire Astros organization. He is the only one saying flat out that he cheated and that it wasnt anybody elses fault that he cheated and he isnt using weasel words to get around what everybody in the world already knows. The owner is a lying ass piece of shiat who is just trying to sweep the whole awkward and rotten thing under the carpet by claiming that it didnt help the team and that all the wrongdoers causing it were fired.
The Astros look even worse and less remorseful and honest going forward today than they did yesterday. Which would have seemed impossible yesterday

The 1940s Tigers used Binoculars to steal signs.  Binoculars I say!  Precision ground glass brought into focus by means of an adjustable screw.  Binoculars!  Not some kind of lame old school telescope technology like a decent gentleman might use, but binoculars!  Appalling.

Yeah, because it's a stupid suggestion.  I think it's infinitely better to mock the Astros and give them the same ribbing we reserve for the Patriots, the East German Olympic women, and all other groups that tried to twist the system.

Not sure if this is who you were thinking of, but Gaylord Perry's Me and The Spitter was released in 1974. As a 14-year old baseball fanatic who had grown up with the silliness about how baseball players were these gods who had deigned to walk among us, that book was a shock. See also: Jim Bouton's Ball Four, which I read around the same time.

Ok, do that. Put free runners on base and get tossed from the game in the first inning so the rest of the lineup - most of whom were still pretty good without trashcan banging - can beat up on your bullpen. That'll sure show them!

The trouble with throwing to intentionally hurt someone on the other team is that same team can do that back at your team - it's the old eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.

I rather like the idea of having the PA system play the banging of trash can lids every time and Asterisks player comes to the plate or when they bring in a relief pitcher.

Of course this won't happen because the one thing all the owners are good at is collusion.

Why all of them? There are only 5 or 6 position players left from that team.
Should they throw at Marwin Gonzalez even though he plays for the Twins.
Furthermore are Twins fans and players mad that he's on their team?

That's not true; i'm pretty sure my team is gonna steer as clear as humanly possible of bringing any of that up when they're in town. You know, seeing as they're in the same goddamned boat, damned Cora.

The fans of my team, however, are just stupid enough to bring it up and not see the problem.

I haven't been to an Astros game since Craig Biggio's last game so I'm doing my part.
