Great! Now their biggest challenge - conquering the traffic problems of Northern Virginia.

That's all good governance. Glad to see VA has decided to go for competence over conservatism.

This is exactly why Moscow Mitch and the others do everything in their power to stop Democrats: when they actually can pass laws, it quickly becomes obvious that they should be the ones passing laws. The house of cards quickly tumbles.

Well not even God himself could solve that, but I'm happy for all they're doing and all they still plan to do.

Decriminalization is pretty pointless, if you can't buy it legally and the cops can still seize it, nothing has really changed.

Well...at the very least the pot would make you care less about being stuck in traffic. Just saying....

Honestly, big cities need comprehensive traffic management systems.

For example: By increasing diversion during peak usage (people choosing other ways to go) 10%, you can actually increase thoughput by 15%, decrease accidents by about 25%-30%, decrease total travel time AND make the roadway last longer.

Damn. It's great to see Virginia take the lead in things like chasing off the symbols of the "Lost Cause" bs.
And now legalizing weed. That'll mellow them.

Somebody's got to stop them!  They're making people's lives marginally better!

Keep firing assholes!

No, seriously. Keep going. Its great. You're moving the needle and everyone not in Virginia is looking on and saying "huh....so that's what progress looks like? That looks pretty damned good."

Except conservatives. But they're too busy getting handlies from underaged ladyboys and then going home and beating their wives for liking a post from Randy rainbow to protest.

The rest of us love the example you're setting.

dnrtfa but, um... at least in other decriminalized places I've lived it means the cops dgaf unless they kinda "need" to and then it's like a $50 civil "ticket" or whatever. And also it's the first step to legalizing recreational.

If the worst that the cops can do is take your weed away from you and fine you, then things will have significantly improved.

Especially considering that without decriminalization, cops can take your car away from you simply by saying they smelled weed, even if there isn't any in the car. And that's just one of the myriad ways cops can ruin your life (or at least your day) simply because you have a plant that's less addictive and less dangerous than tobacco or alcohol.

I wonder if we'll see more of this happen in 'light-red' or 'purple' areas as the typically politically left leaning major metro areas become prohibitively expensive to live in that residents move to less-expensive areas which are politically right leaning.  I'm not familiar with VA -- was this part of the reason that Democrats were able to win elections like they did?

For small amounts of weed:
Currently you can't buy it legally and the cops can seize it and arrest you.
With decriminalization you can't buy it legally and the cops can seize it, but they can't arrest you.

See the big difference?

I'm mostly just confused as to why liberalism means that sheep get genetically engineered to walk upright so that they can go for rides in convertibles with their friends.

I mean, don't get me wrong, if I had a friend that was a genetically engineered bipedal sheep with human-level intelligence, I would definitely invite them to hang out with me and my wife and go on all kinds of fun adventures, because how cool is that?

Its because of the gay frogs.

Yeah, but they'll probably lose the next election in the aftermath of all this extreme leftist agenda. I mean, Virginia's a moderate state.

What? They *already* won two elections in a row?

2020-02-12 7:20:11 PM
Police, prosecutors and courts can put their time to better use instead of wasting increasing amounts of it each year.

"The number of first-time marijuana convictions in Virginia jumped from 9,000 in 1999 to nearly 29,000 in 2018 "

These are all things to cheer about, no doubt.

But what the hell made VA Dems think this was a good idea? https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/02/va-dems-kill-pro-union-bill-after-learning-ceos-oppose-it.html?

unionization = freedom of assembly = more income = highly deterministic in both quality and quantity of life

It makes no sense that they'd spend political capital on all those other things and ~not~ spend political capital on the most effective long-term plan for making the population want to vote for your party.

It's amazing. My state is surrounded by states who've legalized weed and gotten freight trucks full of cash money for it in a matter of weeks. And the governor made such a big dramatic reveal of an announcement of a revelation.... that he'd be open to medical marijuana being okay.

Never mind that in 2016 AND in 2018, there were public referendums on recreational marijuana, and there was something like 70% in favor across the state.

This drug war shiat cannot die soon enough or embarrassingly enough.

Nobody is perfect.  And the Democrats will get it right eventually.  Expecting perfection right out the gate is unreasonable, but it is better to gently remind them of what needs to be done, because they will do it.
