Better question: would you support a candidate that wants to protect and increase Medicare and Social security the largest socialist programs in the US?

Follow up: do you know trump is trying to cut social security and Medicare?

Real MrKKKans only favor those socialist programs that benefit them personally and directly... as long as you use the word "socialism." OTOH, if it has any possibility of any benefit for anybody else, then it is the most horrible, awful thing ever in the history of the known, visible universe.

An entire nation of egocentric, pathological morons. Yay!

Do the math.

45% would, 53% wouldn't, +/- 4%. (So, anything from 49%-49% to 41%-57%.) Out of a thousand adults, surveyed over a two-week period. From a population of about 217 million folks eligible to vote. This is what you should be reading here:

"We surveyed 0.0004% of the population and determined that the results thus represent the population - and that even with that, the margin of error encompasses a possible tie in the results."

DarnoKonrad: Gallop also has Trump's approval around 50%.  They're Rasssmusen lite.

Currently they have him at 49% (the highest they've ever had him).  But 538 gives Gallup a B with a 0.8% Republican bias.

Rasmussen gets a C+ with a 1.5% Republican bias.  Bit of a difference.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/pollster-ratings/

https://news.gallup.com/poll/284156/trump-job-approval-personal-best.aspx

Trump has definitely improved (by a point or two) since the impeachment.  He's currently at 43.8%.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?ex_cid=rrpromo

That 49% seems high, but it's probably just a fluke.  Gallup hasn't polled exceptionally high for Trump in the past.

Bingo.
Democrats are afraid that those who need help, aren't getting help.
Republicans are afraid that those who don't need help, are getting help.
Libertarians are afraid that others are getting help.

The Trump Organization's ersatz real estate empire was built on a foundation of city/state tax breaks, subsidies, and other giveaways worth almost a billion$.

They've been feeding at the gov't trough since before Ivanka was born, and at a rate far higher than any other Manhattan developer.

Fun fact: The countries we like to point to with universal healthcare and free education (Canada, Germany, Sweden, Norway, etc...) are all Democratic Capitalist countries with free trade and private property rights.

"Democratic Socialism" IS Capitalism, just marketed to people who think Capitalism is bad.

So yeah, talk about something everyone agrees on until you say the name...

What?  Why would you possibly not just name your economic theory something without less baggage amongst the audience your trying to get to buy it.

Notice how McDonalds doesn't call them "Deep friend mechanically separated chicken meat, bones, connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels" and instead opts for "all white meat chicken nuggets"?

Germany actually went with "Social Market Economy" which I think would be a slightly better sell than "Democratic Socialists" amongst mouth breathers in America.

• "Would you support ensuring that nobody literally dies from being poor?"

Of course! I'm not a monster!

• "Would you support a guarantee of health care, good nutrition, a quality education, and safe housing for all children?"

Yes, no child should have basic needs go unmet because their parents are poor.

"Would you support making sure the disabled can live in dignity, even if they can't work?"

That only makes sense.

"Even if it means rich people have to pay more in taxes?"

Obviously. Nobody should go hungry just so a rich person can get richer.

"Would you vote for a socialist?"

WUT? NOW WAIT JUST A GODDAM MINNIT

The irony is that most of those who say they wouldn't vote for a "socialist" have that reaction because of the decades of the Cold War where a "socialist" was feared because they would help the Russians or the Chinese take over America.

In 2020, if you don't vote for the socialist (assume Bernie is the nominee), you'll be helping the Russians and the Chinese take over America through their puppets Trump and McConnell.

/is irony the right term there? Maybe "f*cking shame" works better.

Probably because it's not in socialism's nature to redress something misleading in an attempt to try and sell it. That's capitalism.

There is no "nature" of socialism, socialism can mean any of several dozen different economic and political philosophies.  But hey, an unwillingness to budge in order to deal with political reality certainly epitomizes the Sanders strain of it.
