2002-01-29 01:49:07 PM
NaTaX nabbed that pretty quickly =P I'm curious as to why the submitter didn't add it in the headline. And I think an

Its interesting that French hockey players from France suck, but French hockey players from Quebec are the best in the world.
2002-01-29 02:04:22 PM
LC -

Which of these names is French?

i'll give you this: a couple of them used to be the second best at the time.
2002-01-29 02:05:20 PM
The Golden Goophers MUST suck. Alloowing 2 goals to a team that skates with their arms raised over their heads.
2002-01-29 02:05:39 PM

Beer baron
france has a hockey team?

I think either Bob Gainey or Steve Shutt used manage or coach the team.
2002-01-29 02:12:59 PM
You said the best in the world. not the teams, the players.
2002-01-29 02:13:40 PM
that lemieux guy is from quebec right? yeah he sucked ass.

I'll type slowly.

The Best Players In The World, he said,

Which is not at all true.

Some of the elite, some of the very good.

But I don't think a French player has been the best in the league since Howie Morenz.
2002-01-29 02:19:16 PM
w00t w00t to the home team. I'm at UMN, haven't heard anything about this...

Where's Bobbie Orr when we need him?
2002-01-29 02:36:11 PM
Actually, the Gophers are one of the best teams this year. They're 3rd in the WHCA and beat the number one team already. So there Groundhog. Now Gophers Football, that does not make me proud of my school.

breaking up fights between hockey dads.

A hockey coach has been charged with assault on another coach after a violent game between two bantam teams at a North York arena that was witnessed by hockey legend Bobby Orr.

Orr helped usher the kids off the ice Sunday when parents and coaches clashed after the Greater Toronto Hockey League game between the North York Rangers and Toronto Red Wings at the Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre.

Later, outside the dressing rooms, the 24-year-old Rangers' assistant coach was pushed into a wall and punched twice in the back of the head, Sgt. Lino Murarotto said.

Witnesses intervened and separated the two men. None of the 15-year-old players were involved in the post-game brawl, although they witnessed much of it.

The violence comes less than a week after Massachusetts dad Thomas Junta, 44, was sentenced to six to 10 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter after beating another parent, Michael Costin, to death at a kids hockey game in July "It was really ugly," parent Angelo Franchin said of the violent weekend game. Franchin, whose son plays for the Rangers, which lost 4 to 1, said the rough play is "getting out of control."

Franchin said the teen players were still on the ice when the parents and coaches clashed. He said Orr came down and advised parents to move the players to safety.

"He said: 'Look, get the kids away from this. Get them off the ice.'"

Franchin said the referees lost control of the game. Three players were ejected, but no coaches were penalized.

"I'm a Ranger parent. I'm admitting this to you. I'm not proud my son was involved in anything like that," he said.

"There is a lot of violence, a lot of hidden tension and aggression in city leagues right now, between coaches, parents in the stands.

"How do we stop it? I think we have to change the emphasis and the focus on why the kids are playing the game. There's too much emphasis on winning. There's too much of an ego trip between coaches and that's what causes the tempers to flare."

GTHL president John Gardner said about half a dozen parents are disciplined by the league each year. He would not speculate on penalties for Sunday's melee, but vowed "it is not going to be swept under the rug. This will be dealt with.

"If you can't keep your emotions in check, you're going to pay the piper, the police and the court system, period," he said.

Ron MacLean, 41, host of Hockey Night in Canada and a 21-year veteran of refereeing, said violence at sporting events "is a very legitimate concern.

"It's like drinking and driving," he said. "If you want to stop it, not only do you have to punish the actions, you also have to create ... an aura of shame around the behaviour."

Red Wings' coach Steven Cook, 35, of Toronto, is to appear in North York court on an assault charge March 4.

"Gophers?! Goddamnit! I thought it said Golden Gerbils!"

I saw Minnesota play against the Badgers (who France plays tonight) Minnesota has a good team, they were ranked 3 in the country at the time I believe. They definately liked to play rough too, They may have beat us (badgers) in goals but they won the # of players kicked out of the game with 3 that night. It should be a good game tonight, nice to see france getting thier asses kicked.
2002-01-29 02:43:02 PM
The funny thing is that they even HAVE a hockey team...come to think of it, Does the UK have an Olympic hockey team?
2002-01-29 02:43:07 PM
BaconFarker: No problem it was just a question. It seems that fark.com has alot of news from Minnesota and it gives farkers the chance to rag on us. Did everybody forget about the new state zoo Minnesota got? We put a fence around Iowa. HAHAHA old joke but still like it.

Oh well had to pick on a different state.

Happy Farking

BTW: Raymond Bourque <---Francophone Quebecois and one of the best hockey players....ever
2002-01-29 02:46:43 PM
He said they were the best. i simply pointed outthat it's been a LOOOOOONG time since a Quebecois was the best player in the league - ergo, they can't be "the best" as a group.

sorry for the double post. [refresh] can be a dangerous thing. strange the 3rd pic now works though.

was that outdoor game with 100,000+ fans played in Minnsota or michigan? that was cool. (literally)
2002-01-29 02:53:38 PM

We got spanked badly. That was embarrasing. People here (St.Louis) are wondering if the players like/are listening to Quin Snyder and if he was the right choice for coach.
2002-01-29 02:55:54 PM
My favorite part of the upcoming Olympics will be the chants of USA, USA, USA......well, whatchin Harmonia go nuts will be fun too.

"Pousett scored at 8:37 mark of the first period. His slapshot beat Johnson and put the French up"
