Reminds me of the repeating thought as a child... what if our rotation suddenly stopped? Splat!?! Or float?!

Mostly splat. You would get a bit of float first if you happened to be standing on top of a mountain or tall building.

Imagine that your standing on a planet that's revolving...revolving at 900mph...

Whee!

Somehow I have always instinctively felt/known this. I did it a lot as a kid, long before anyone had told me AFAIK; but even now I can lay down flat on the ground arms spread, face up or down and I can feel the planet moving through space.

It's strongest outside, face up on a clear night, where infinity can pour into my eyeballs unobstructed by stuff or light pollution.

I suppose someone put the idea in my head before I can recall and my imagination took over, but if so the imagining reflects reality so who cares?

All movement measurement requires a frame of reference.

You cannot state a velocity without a frame of reference. It's as meaningless as declaring your speed without units: "how fast am I moving? 3."

According to an interstellar frame of reference we're moving rather fast. Compared to the huge chunk of rock we live on, most of us aren't even moving right now.

And both statements are true.

872405mph relative to what?

dv-ous: 872405mph relative to what?

Relative to the cosmic microwave background radiation. It's blue-shifted in one direction and red-shifted in the opposite direction, indicating a velocity of about 368 km/s for our solar system relative to the distant universe.

Reminds me of mixing alcohol and cannabis, only a lot slower.

I was going to make some crack about showing it to (insert flat earther celebrity here) and watching their head explode. When I googled up a list of flat earther celebrities I realized that it only amounts to a couple footballers, a rapper and a porn star. I felt much better about humanity for a couple minutes.

Until I remembered Gwyneth Paltrow and Jenny McCarthy.

Try not to think about Gwyneth Paltrow and Jenny McCarthy. Try not to think that each of them reaches a larger audience than all of us on Fark combined.

Try not to cry when thinking that.

It's $75. I looked it up. I wouldn't even pay that to light her actual ladygarden on fire.
