Expect a document dump with some real stuff mixed with fake or doctored documents to start coming out the second Donnie's impeachment trial starts.

Perhaps.

I would think the Russians will begin dumping crap during the Democratic primaries this year myself. You know, knock Biden out before the November general election.

/Doing my absentee ballot this week.
//I won't be at my polling station for Super Tuesday this year.

It's hard to read this over the chorus of outrage from GOP members who think foreign interference in our elections is dangerous and totally unacceptable.

The Internet had such great potential as a way to get quick access to public records and exchange unreliable information with family and friends.  I never expected people to be so stupid as to put critical infrastructure on it.

Nah, that's perfectly normal.

The guy who sits next to me at work, Borischong, is always busy sending emails. He told me he sends out funny cat memes to people back in Asia all the time and they love funny cat memes there.

Although, I never see him eat any Asian food for lunch, or do sweet karate moves during smoke break. He does yell things in Russian in the bathroom in the morning though.

Oh look, he just sent me one. He wants to create a cat meme account for me. Broischong is such a kind soul.

I'm waiting for Russia to release some inconsequential dump in favor of Democrats so the GOP can rant and decry the foreign election interference they knew all along was helping the Democratic Party and disqualify the candidates.

Kinda makes sense.  They're only interested in chaos in the US, so they'll use the Dems as much as they can like they use the GOP as much as they want.

Funny how Giuliani has such great Rock solid evidence, but won't tell anybody what it is.

Not surprising that the Russians start trolling for Stuff as soon as this came out. if they get nothing they get nothing, and if they get even a little we can throw some more gas on the fire.

I think they pretty clearly want Trump to continue to be president, so they might just stick to his side. who knows though, the ultimate goal is probably the political collapse of the USA, so they might decide this time to switch sides just enough to cause everyone to think everyone else is illegitimate.

They're doing a damn fine job

If they Russkies can't find evidence implicating the Bidens they will certainly leave it in a easily findable location.  Like AG Barr's inbox.

What a time to be alive: when this many Americans will proudly stand behind the politician being doggedly propped up by our worst geopolitical enemy on the planet. The country that would have nuked us out of existence, every day for decades, had it not been for MAD. People will show up in November and vote for the candidate that farking Russia wants ruling us.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's still utterly shock-inducing, and profoundly disappointing in our peers.

Mitch is going ride or die on 2020. He's using anything...anything he can to secure his seat as Senate leader and maintain a stranglehold on governmental proceedings. He knows he's in for the fight for his life

It will be a strange site when conservative media preemptively starts haranguing the "common thread" that the supposed liebrul msm lamestream media digs up after a few news cycles have passed and everyone is focused on the DNC presidential candidate races.

I don't watch or pay attention to conservative media but they always seem to have pocket aces before the cards are even dealt, especially with this "administration."

And the biggest question for me is why is Mitch being such a Trumpsucker about this.  His whole career as a statesman goes down in flames if he rides Trump's coattails and Trump goes down, or maybe he spends his last term sucking up to a fascist, racist asswipe if Trump wins.  But if Mitch had played it straight legal and  constitutional his legacy and party would be a whole lot healthier right now.

So why is Mitch being so recklessly pro-Trump?

The conservative m.o. has always been based on a few having power over the most -- that's a basic feature of every conservative ideology ever sharted across the globe.  Don't be the least bit surprised that they'll do anything to achieve that goal.

If they went to all of the trouble to hack in looking for dirt then why didn't they just plant some dirt? I guess these hacker for hire boys don't have the chutzpah to plant anything more incriminating than a voicemail from "Peggy" asking for social security numbers and credit card details.

Step one:  Hack target.
Step two:  Make sure public knows you hacked target.
Step three:  "Leak" a mixture of fake and real information from the target.

If the documents just appear, people ask where they came from, start investigating, and maybe ruin the whole game for you.  If you get "caught" hacking someone, and then their information starts getting leaked, people don't dig into it as much because it makes enough sense to be believable.  It takes effort to vet every piece of information, so if the easier to vet stuff is true an unaltered, people assume (for long enough, anyway) that the rest must be as well.  You don't release anything made up whole cloth, instead, modify the truth enough that the lies are superficially plausible.  The purpose isn't to convince people, but to muddy the water enough that people fight over it.  People motivated to believe the narrative you're feeding will overlook the problems with the "evidence", while people disinclined to believe will point out how obviously fake it is.  With true things mixed it, there's just enough defense of its alleged authenticity that no one can really be moved by any actual facts.  Mix in a media happy to get any "scoop" if it means better ratings (the juicier, the better), and you have a lovely recipe for chaos and resentment.

And, as a bonus, the media dutifully reporting actual fake news means Republicans can even more easily dismiss genuine reports of their wrongdoing as "fake news".  It's win-win for everyone, as long as you limit "everyone" to only include people with obscene amounts of wealth and privilege and no concern for anything outside their own personal gain.

This. They'll play for Trump, but they'll be much louder and noisier this year than in 2016. Know that they're known, being noisy will ensure that if Trump gets elected again his administration will be seen as incredibly illegitimate which will paralyze the US even further. Should the Democrats win then Trump can say he was improperly impeded because of obvious Russian interference. He and the conservative block will make the case the Democrats were working with Russian to undermine him and that their administration is illegitimate.

It's basically a can't lose scenario for this current season of Russian disinformation.
